009-1 (2006) - Episode 5

Wow, I basically just read this chapter in the manga! They completely changed the plot and I can’t say I blame them. The Trevi chapter in the manga has very little going on and Mylene’s “teammates” were generic no-names. I was happy to see the return of 009-4 and 009-7. I really like their designs and cheesy accents. I wish they were around more often but at the same time I get that 009-1 has a “lone wolf” reputation to uphold.

Notes:

-The opening of this was very “Nancy Drew.” 009-1 is on vacation but she stumbles into trouble anyway. Can’t catch a break :’(

-Loved Mylene’s snazzy hot rod. It looked pretty similar to the one Joe drives in Cyborg 009. 

-Didn’t really follow the plot of this one. I’m not sure why the android girl was attacking Mylene or why that guy had a briefcase full of “girly mags.” It’s a mystery. I thought the animation/directing was really good tho

-Our first android! They don’t appear super often in this universe. Her melted-down design reminded me of Metropolis 

-Golden bat makes a reappearance. I still don’t feel like I really understand what they’re deal is. I guess they’re just a generic terrorist organization...

-I’m guessing there are some variations on the Trevi fountain coin tossing legend but the part about 3 coins = dumping someone felt off. I googled it and the first result I got said 3 coins = love and marriage so -shrug-
