Naze Boku no Sekai wo Daremo Oboeteinai no ka? 1
Tumblr media
Author: Kei Sazane
Illustrator: neco
Label: MF Bunko J
Release Date: 25 July 2017
My Score: 4/5
Story & Characters:
Genre: Fantasy, Action, Adventure
Premise: 100 years ago, there was a war between the 5 races of this world and humans came out on top, largely due to the hero Sid, and the rest of the races were sealed away. Kai and his friends work to ensure that the races remain sealed. One day, when he is in the middle of talking to his childhood friend Jeanne, the world goes wonky and he wakes up to find himself in a different world in which Sid never existed and humans lost the war and their territory has been taken by the Demon race. No one remembers him or his world. As he is exploring the world to find out what happened, he comes accross Rinne, a girl who has attributes from several different races and doesn’t know what race she is. She had been imprisoned by the Demon race and Kai rescues her. She seems to be the only other person who remembers his world and they team up to revert the world to the way it was.
Kei Sazane always delivers excellent first volumes and this one is no exception to the rule. The plot is intriguing, the characters are likeable, the setting is interesting, and the fight scenes are exciting. I really enjoyed it and I am very curious about so many plot points. Along with Sid, Kai also does not exist in the alt. world. At first, I wondered whether Kai did exist but died at a young age but Alt!Jeanne never mentions having a childhood friend so why does Kai not exist in the new world? My best theory is that he is a descendant of Sid’s so no Sid = no Kai. I suppose it is possible that Kai does exist in the alt. world but in a different location or role, but given that this isn’t the case for any of the other characters, that would still raise questions. How was Rinne created and is she alive in the original world? It should be interesting to see Kai question whether he really wants to return the world back to it’s original form if it would mean losing Rinne as well. Regardless, my interest in this series is very much piqued.
As for the characters, Kai isn’t much different from other Sazane protagonists. He’s likeable and interesting enough but there’s nothing about him that makes him stand out from other protagonists. Rinne has been trapped for at least a hundred years before the start of the series so she quickly becomes attached to Kai but she hates everyone else. I am very interested in her origin story though and I suspect she’ll have a good character arc so I’m looking forward to that. Before the change, Jeanne seemed like she was about to confess that she has romantic feelings for Kai and she is the leader of the human rebellion in the alt. world. She’s fine but hasn’t made much of an impression on me yet.  The side characters are memorable and likeable and I have no complaints there.
Overall, I enjoyed this volume a lot and it seems to have been a good choice to help me get out of this reading slump.
Recommended for:
Fantasy/action/adventure fans.
Adaptation Notes:
The manga adaptation is ongoing at 7 volumes currently in print and it features art by Arikan. I’m really enjoying it so far. There aren’t a whole lot of changes but the gorgeous art really elevates the story, especially the action scenes which are breathtaking to look at. At the moment, I’d actually recommend the manga over the light novel.
I’ll be reading volume 2 soon.

My Score: 3/5
In the last volume, the four races, along with Rinne, were sealed, marking the end of the great war with humankind’s victory. While this may have been the original goal of our lead characters, things have changed. They’ve formed attachments with members of different races and the victory feels hollow. Furthermore, there’s also the possibility that the humans will be sealed next and Kai does not trust the god that orchestrated the sealing of the other races. But it turns out that Alfrejya, the Divine Hero, somehow avoided being sealed as he is found petrified in stone so the gang works together with him to free the other races and find out the truth of the identity of the god.
I found it hard to be immersed in this volume after such a big break between reading volumes 6 & 7 and it took me a while to remember all of the bits of the story and characters again. Once I did remember, it was a pretty enjoyable ride but wasn’t exciting as I remember the previous volumes being. Still, I have 2 volumes left in this series and I still plan to finish it but it might take a while given that I haven’t felt much like reading lately. I look foward to getting around to volume 8 nonetheless.

My Score: 5/5
This was a big climactic volume with so many revelations and twists. I’m familiar enough Sazane’s storytelling style that I predicted several of the twists but that didn’t make them any less exciting to read. My favourite parts of this volume were probably seeing the full extent of the relationships between Balmung (a human general) and Kyouko (the Spirit Hero), and between Saki (a member of the resistance) and Hynemarill (a succubus who is always teasing her). I didn’t realise how much they had come to care for each other until a certain scene and I got a bit emotional about it. This volume was just awesome overall and I’m so excited to see where the series goes next.
There are still 3 volumes left in the series but this is all that is available on the Bookwalker subscription for now so I won’t be reading volume 7 for a while yet but I will be getting to it when I can.

My Score: 3/5
Art Notes: To be honest, I really feel like the art is holding this series back. I quite like neco’s art style and designs but it always feels like there aren’t many illustrations in the volumes and the illustrations that there are don’t really enhance it. I would love to see illustrations of the monsters and the battles and an illustration just after a surprising moment would really help the the reader feel more shocked at what was just revealed but that doesn’t happen and it’s a shame. I doubt it will, but I hope the manga is able to adapt all of the volumes in this series as I would love to see these action scenes and climactic reveals get properly illustrated.
At the end of last volume, the gang struck a surprise alliance with Hinemarill, the succubus that was introduced in volume 2, to get them back to fight the Beast Hero. On their way back to the Beast’s territory, they learn more about Rinne’s origins. Oh, and they also have to be on the lookout for that new and mysterious mechanical “sixth race” that appeared at the end of last volume. Like always, this volume was a lot of fun and I really liked the additions to the worldbuilding. I didn’t like this volume as much as the previous ones mostly because Hinemarill brings with her more silly scenes which I don’t think were necessary and felt out of place and some of the twists didn’t really surprise me. That being said, the cliffhanger has me really hyped to read volume 6.
