For those curious about mounting an overhead console in a base model truck, I pulled the headliner down in a 2004 Tahoe last night. This mounting bracket looks like the same one that I cut out of a RCSB to put into the Vandal. #vandalproject #nbsconsole #nbsoverheadconsole #overheadconsole #sbrc

I swapped out the grey buttons on the overhead console in the Vandal for black buttons. Not just for it to look different or the cosmetic appearance (though I do like the contrasting colors), but also to help the buttons stand out in my peripheral vision for quick clicking. #vandalproject #nbsconsole #nbsoverheadconsole #overheadconsole #sbrc

Follow up from my post this morning. Here's a shot with the overhead console mounted in the Vandal. I'm loving this! The sun visors are from an SUV and I'll recover them later. The main reason the SUV visors are better is because they latch pushing towards the windshield. The original visors were opposite. So every time that I'd push it down to block the sun, they'd unsnap and swing towards the windshield. These also have extensions on them and a second visor to block two areas at once. I had to cut a hole in the headliner and move the clip in the roof to catch the screw for the visor inner mount. I'll fill the old hole when I recover the headliner. #vandalproject #nbsconsole #nbsoverheadconsole #overheadconsole #sbrc

Last Friday I ripped down the Vandal's old nasty sagging headliner so that I can install the overhead console metal mounting bracket. It appears that base model trucks didn't have this mounting bracket on the roof from the factory, which surprised me. These mounts are spot welded onto a lip at the front and rear of the cab. It doesn't effect the outer roof skin. I had planned to cut a mount out of a Tahoe and then figure a way to make it work, but I lucked out and found a regular cab truck in the salvage yard to get it from. While I was pulling other parts, my buddy Derek cut the overhead console mounting bracket out of the roof and made sure to leave enough lip that I was able to rivet it into the Vandal. Before riveting the bracket in, I stuck two layers of FatMat insulation on the roof to help keep heat out and quiet down the inside of the cab. Not that either of those were a noticeable problem. I just had the material and it felt like a good idea. The roof does get extremely hot, but the headliner does a great job of insulating the cab. It'll be nice to have an overhead console with a built in garage door openers, lights and a cubby to hold sunglasses. #vandalproject #nbsconsole #nbsoverheadconsole #overheadconsole #sbrc

Pic 9 & final on the console. It's all bolted in and fits well. I figured since I've already got the seats out, I'll remove the rubber matt and wet padding underneath it to put down some FatMat (like Dynomat), new padding and the carpet from the short bed donor truck. Today I'm finally adapting the newer 2016 Tahoe center console to actually bolt down in the Vandal. It's been just sitting in the truck squeezed between the seats. I'll cut the old base bracket and weld it to the new console so that it bolts in like the Vandal's original middle seat did. #vandalproject #nbsconsole #nbscenterconsole #tahoeconsole #2016centerconsole

Pic 8 The side and front plastic trim snapped back on with no issues. The rear piece had to be trimmed a little to clean the trans tunnel. Pic 5 Now the 2016 Tahoe console is set on top of the old mounting brackets to see what to trim and set the seat angle before welding the old base to the new console. I angled it back slightly so that the person sitting there will be comfortable. Today I'm finally adapting the newer 2016 Tahoe center console to actually bolt down in the Vandal.
