just had a really weird interaction on instagram. so there's this meme page neoliberalhell that is pretty funny. i was looking at her new post and the first slide is about that swiss guy who brutally murdered his girlfriend and put her body in a blender. and there was a quote tweet that was comparing the double standards to other cultures, like if that happened in any other culture other than swiss it would invite questions of their culture, religion, etc when that doesn't happen for white people. which i agree with obviously! but also i didn't think it should be the first slide on a meme slideshow. like the next meme was about elon musk being stupid or something. and i left a comment that said "normally love you, but maybe don't put news of a woman's brutal murder on your meme slideshow?" and it started getting a lot of likes. i went to bed and when i woke up she blocked me! like obviously just because i follow her doesn't mean we're friends lol but like that was the most milquetoast criticism. and i was right!! like come on girl

I lost all my faith now after Matty liking that tweet. He is bothered by all the shipping with Taylor. I think he is over her. I'm sad 😢 he can clarify the song but not the Us weekly article.

Before you go, a few parting words:

I found the original tweet with the controversial comparison. What's that? The link is dead? Right, the tweet has been deleted. Probably because people found it offensive and the OP (not even a "Maylor" btw) removed it.

As for the liked post in question - I'm not so sure that, given the context and tone of the neoliberalhell account as a whole, anyone should be celebrating (though I will admit that our world now resembles Idiocracy so thoroughly that I have a hard time distinguishing satire from reality, at this point lol)

And as for Matty's IG Story, or his social media activity in general, I always default to this quote:

"My relationship with social media is slightly different to, well maybe not yours, but a lot of especially like, young people's because my relationship with social media is 'This is what I do', and most young people's is 'This is who I am'. And those are very, very different things."

He seems to use social media for professional purposes, like supporting his pal Charli's new record, regardless of song choice. There's been a lot of interesting conflation and generalizing happening since then, I'd say.

Lastly, I'd like to point you to Matty's interview with Stevie Nicks, where he expressed interest in the dynamic of her romantic relationship with Lindsey during their 'Rumours' era, and Taylor's interview with Pattie Boyd, where she expresses her interest in what it was like for her as a famous muse, right down to the specific situation that inspired the song "Wonderful Tonight"! It seems as though wondering who or what inspired the art that inspires you is not only natural, but quite universal! 🤍
