Hidden Disabilities

Last month I went to the art museum, in which they had an exhibit about hidden disabilities. There was this mass of sticky notes on the wall rapidly outgrowing the square within which they had designated for the notes to be contained within. It was astounding to see the vast variety of things that people were coping with on a daily basis. It was especially affirming to see how many other people were struggling with things that I also struggle with. 

Next to the sticky note wall was a wall with buttons on it. They said the following:

I have a PHYSICAL hidden disability

Hidden Disabilities ALLY

I have a NEUROLOGICAL hidden disability

I have a COGNITIVE hidden disability

I have a hidden disability

Trust what I SAY not how I LOOK

I snagged one of the latter ones (partially because it was also one of my preferred color combinations, and encompassed my experience with hidden disabilities better). I haven’t quite gotten the courage to wear it out yet, but as soon as I relocate it, it will be joining the rest of my button army on my bag!
