A very special Flashback #Straturday from my trip to #NYC in 2014 at @rudysmusic #Soho with a lovely old #Stratocaster from the 1950s in its original case. Now this photo was taken 5 years ago, I didn’t make any notes, and there have been literally thousands of guitars seen and photographed since then, so I don’t remember what year this particular #Strat was. However there are several clues that help narrow it down: the single ply, 5 screw pickguard and one piece maple neck put it some time in the 50s (I think rosewood necks and 3 ply guards came along in ‘59). I believe 3 tone sunburst began in ‘58, so that means this one would have to be pre ‘58 (unless the red has faded...which I have heard did happen with some of the early ones!). However the string tree would have been round if it was from ‘55 or ‘54, so I’m going to take a (ham-fisted) guess that this one is a ‘56 or a ‘57...or possibly a ‘58 with the red faded from the sunburst.
