Object Lore: Aging
In the object world, objects are not born as the objects they turn out to be. They are instead born as nondescript gray objects that come from eggs. Over time, they become the objects we know and love.
When an object first comes out of its egg, it is almost always a specific dark gray known as Newborn Gray. An object is always born as one of a few basic shapes, which mold into the object it becomes as it grows.
For about a month after its birth, an infant object does nothing but look around. It does not need any sustenance during this period. It scans its surroundings and decides what object it wants to be. In this period, object parents may spend time enriching their child with special media so that they may become a specific kind of object.
After the observation period, the object will begin to change. If the object it will become is darker than Newborn Gray, the pigment from the face of the object will be drained to make it darker, making the face white.
After about four months, the object will become a basic version of itself. Objects can buy accessories such as stickers, pins, or other materials to customize themselves past that point. Some object gain other features such as markings and special colors later in life.
Objects spend 10-16 years of their life growing in height after that. Infant objects are half a foot tall, but quickly grow to about two feet in the observation phase. After this, they grow to their final height over a random amount of time.
There are medications that objects can take that help them change their appearance. When they take it, they are put in a pseudo-observation phase for two weeks. When it is finished, they will morph their appearance. It does not change what object it is, only the appearance.

Object Lore: Early History
In the beginning, thousands of years in the past, it is said that many small groups of Obiectum primis (ancient objects) were scattered across a supercontinent known as Pangoiky. Since there were little to no wildlife for most groups, they primarily survived on the fruit from trees and bushes. Areas like deserts and taigas were completely uninhabitable due to the very low amount of food in the harsh climates.
Objects had simple lives, living in caves with nearly nothing to do except gather food (and later, plant the seeds from the fruit). There were no predators for most groups, so only a handful of groups formed languages.
One group that formed a language lived next to a lake that eventually became a strait that was (incorrectly) known as the Goiky Canal. They ate a diet of fruits and fish from the strait, which they caught with their hands. Fish monsters would try to attack objects who retrieved fish, so they eventually developed a rudimentary language.
The language grew to include other terms for things that the objects would see. The casualties to drowning and fish monsters were still high, but they were reduced. The objects continued to live calmly with a steady population. In the meantime, they made advances in their technology, building small structures, inventing fire, and using stone for tools.
One night, something glowing fell from the sky and crash landed away from the caves the objects lived at. When an object approached the crash site, there was nothing there. In the morning, an object from another group traveled to the crash site to check it out. Their group had not developed a language, so the object did not speak. The object was welcomed into the group when they were found.
A few days after this, another entity approached the group, but not to join them. A mysterious metal speaker box known as the Announcer appeared suddenly with plans for a competition. It spoke in their language and promised an island described as "a whole square mile of paradise." The objects did not understand much of the words, but they agreed to compete nonetheless.
The start of the competition, known as Battle for Dream Island, marked the first day of the year 0 in history. The competition was held for over two years. The show used an unknown system of votes for their eliminations. Many other objects from groups farther away came to witness the creation of the show, and they were known as recommended characters.
The show went well in the beginning, but fell apart near the end. After the show, the group split and the Announcer disappeared. However, the show was very well documented. An alien device was able to play the entire show.
After the show, other objects and recommended characters found the alien technology. The objects used the alien technology to evolve their society and they based their society on object shows. Many old object shows, such as Inanimate Insanity, began to pop up as a society grew.

Object Lore: Taxonomy
Since the society of objects has grown to its current state from nothing in only two thousand years, the taxonomy of plant life species is very limited. However, object taxonomy has been developed in the recent age. General objects are classified with the Obiectum family and the subfamily of the type of object, but specific kinds of objects are grouped farther.
Obiectum primis, known as the ancient object, is the classification for objects with characteristics that were only found with objects before the year 0. These objects soon evolved to be more developed after the rise of object shows, but they were recorded by early objects. There has not been any discovered art of ancient objects, but their descriptions have led to theoretical sketches of what they could have looked like.
Ancient objects are characterized by several features. They had thicker limbs in order to retrieve fruit from trees easier, teeth fit for an herbivorous diet, and rough outlines that did not change. Since most ancient objects had no predators, they did not develop many features that other subspecies did. As well, the type of objects were less varied, since there was no need to distinguish one from another.
Obiectum bonorum, known as the asseted object, is the classification for objects with characteristics from more evolved societies before the year 0. These objects became the dominant subspecies of the early age, overtaking the ancient object. Asseted objects are named after and most known for their specific type of limbs, known as asset limbs.
Asseted objects are characterized by features such as teeth fit for a more omnivorous diet, thinner limbs to swim better, and smoother outlines for more swimming mobility and ease of escaping aquatic predators. Their object type tends to be more varied too, as they have a need to refer to each other. Due to all the natural advantages asseted objects had, they were more intelligent. This intelligence allowed objects to survive, invent, and thrive.
Asseted objects are most known for participating in object shows, the most notable example being Battle for Dream Island. The contestants of the object show and their descendants were responsible for the use of the alien technology left behind by the show host and the other things they discovered to evolve society to what it is today. Asseted objects are still around today, although less common than the modern object, and they are highly regarded.
Obiectum stultus, known as joke objects, are characters that evolved from ancient objects. For more information on joke objects, click here.
Obiectum recens, known as the modern object, is the classification for objects with characteristics developed most recently. These objects evolved from the asseted objects to have more range of motion, diversity, and adaptability. All modern objects are omnivores, but some communities prefer different diets.
Modern objects are characterized by their many social and adaptability features. They have smooth, size changing outlines that can control the blood flow of the object, faces and limbs with more range of motion and expression, and more object variety. Modern objects seem to be affected by things such as liquid inside them unlike asseted objects.
Modern objects are not much smarter than asseted objects, but they are much more empathetic. As shown in Battle for Dream Island, asseted objects can tend to be numb to the pain of others or even sadistic. Death and injury of others usually takes a much larger toll on modern objects.
What is also unique about modern objects is the variance of limb structure. Ancient objects and asseted objects all have bones in their limbs. Modern objects have different limbs depending on the object. Light objects such as paper have limbs that are held up by a hydraulic system of blood, medium objects such as wood have limbs with cartilage, and heavy objects such as glass have limbs with bones.
The outline of an object acts as its veins. All other objects before the modern object have static outlines that don't change thickness, but the modern object has outlines that can change with temperature. They open wider in the cold and thinner in the heat.
Obiectum primis, Obiectum stultus and Obiectum bonorum always bleed a clear liquid called vitro, (although there are few exceptions with asseted objects where they bleed red blood) which is why object show characters usually don't appear to bleed. Modern objects, however, mostly bleed red blood, but modern objects filled with liquid usually bleed that liquid.
Finally, modern types of objects have different traits. Alcoholic objects are nearly immune to the effects of alcohol, save for a few cases, book objects have photographic memory because all the events of their life are written inside them as they happen, etcetera. Objects that are not modern objects do not have these traits.
Objects that can be classified as different subspecies have yet to be found, but it is likely that they exist. Searches in suspected areas within the last ten years have come up empty handed. Nevertheless, it is impressive how the object species and society has grown so fast and so wholly. Still, there is always more to discover about the past, present, and future.

Object Lore: Joke Characters
The species Obiectum stultus, known as joke objects, is a subspecies of the Obiectum recens (common objects) that originated from the early age of object shows.
The joke objects evolved from ancient objects that could not participate in object shows. They have the same methods of growth and actions, but their bodies grow to be much stranger than common objects. They tend to have strange, mysterious, and inconvenient forms that would usually be detrimental to their survival. However, they somehow thrived.
The joke objects would join groups of objects for the chance to participate in an object show. They fed off of the prizes that they won and continued to live and mate. The forms of the joke objects would somehow cater to the undiscovered mysterious voting systems in the shows. Some joke objects were featured in certain object shows as "recommended characters."
These objects quickly died out after the dark age of object shows in the 1700s, and efforts to counter their extinction have all gone poorly.

Object Lore: Voting
Since the birth of object shows, there has always been a mysterious pool of votes cast against contestants that are up for elimination. This source of votes are usually referred to as "viewers" or "voters." The source of the votes are unknown. Most object shows use this system, but shows closer to the start of the dark ages were more likely to use other methods of elimination, such as contestant voting and predetermined eliminations.
After the events of Battle for Dream Island, a strange device was left behind by the Announcer. When activated, the device opened a portal to a dimension referred to as the Voting Interdimensional Postal (or VIP) services. This dimension resembled a post office, although more unstable and weird.
When the first objects entered the VIP office, it was nothing but a small room with a single desk. This desk was governed by a being known as the Reality Check. As objects created object shows, they had nowhere to get their votes. Reality Check provided the solution: personal mailboxes with votes for the show.
Soon, object show hosts were able to register with the VIP for a PO box. When their voting period ended, they would receive a letter with all of the votes that were received in that time. The operation was a success with the launch of the first object show with viewer voting after BFDI: Inanimate Insanity.
The VIP was extremely successful for over a thousand years. Hundreds of PO boxes were made for the hundreds of hosts that signed up. Hosts came and went, but Reality Check stayed to assist all the votes. It seemed like the VIP would be there to endorse object shows forever.
Many of the PO boxes became unused as shows were won and cancelled. The single mailbox behind the desk also remained dormant since it was reserved for BFDI and the Announcer. One day, a blue algebralien busted in and demanded to use the PO box behind the desk. It said it was the new host of a show called Battle for BFDI.
Excited by the news, hosts all around the world hiatused and paused their shows to witness the second coming of Battle for Dream Island. It was a real algebralien, after all. As the series continued, it seemed to decline more and more in quality. The show was even split by a second algebralien. As the show concluded, many hosts were angered by the show.
Multiple shows were cancelled and permanently hiatused as the algebraliens left the planet. People quit making shows and focused more of scientific advancement. As the number of object shows dwindled, so did the use of the VIP office. Some people still attempted to make object shows, but they failed quickly. With the dark age of object shows, the VIP fell into disrepair.
Reality Check still resides in the VIP to this day, waiting for someone to enter again without just taking pictures. It is said that Reality Check has been seen nearby outside the VIP, but there is no evidence to support this. It is unknown whether object shows will make a rise again, but we have the materials to do so if they did.
