Fleshing out the Muse AU!

Basics:

- this is a Nick Nack x reader Au. Instead of the insert being referred to as Y/N, they are called Muse by Nick and the other puppets.

- this changes the story! Owen brought the puppets to life in a better headspace, so they aren't evil. As such, the show was brought back! However, the Handeemen still have problems. (More on that later)

- the Handeemen were given legs. They are pretty short however. Heights below:

The Handeemen themselves:

Mortimer

- whimsical and friendly for the most part

- though he has anger problems. He often yells at the others, particularly Nick. He is never physically violent though.

- he hates humans. He's far more low key about it than he is in canon, though.

- cast a spell on Muse that is slowly turning them into a puppet bc he didn't like how close they were to Nick

Riley

- basically Miss Frizzle except with more disregard for people's safety

- like in canon, pretty damn passive aggressive but is rarely outright mean.

- still a puppet atheist

- Riley really doesn't like Muse. She is pretty damn rude to them.

Daisy

- her usual sweet, doting self.

- however she's very destructive when she's angry. She won't intentionally hurt someone, she usually just makes a mess.

- Like Cooking Mama, she gets PISSED if you fuck up the apple pie

- the only puppet besides Nick who doesn't dislike Muse. She's actually really nice to them

Nick

- your typical theatre kid, over the top is the norm.

- kinda full of himself, but his ego is extremely fragile. He tends to sob incoherently if the audience makes him think his performance was bad.

- an ambivert, kinda extroverted kinda introverted, depends on how Nick feels right then.

- of course, deeply in love with Muse. He paints them in romantic contexts with him (often potraying himself taller than he actually is) writes long-winded love letters, and when a play is put on Muse is ALWAYS cast as the love intrest to Nick's character.

Because of all of their heights being under 5 foot what if muse just picked them up like a sack of potatoes if they're taller than all of them, even if it's by just a few inches💀

Amy, odd question but Have any of the handeemen ever called you accidentally, mom. Like in the spir of the moment

Not odd at all, sugar pie!

It is not very current nor rare that any of our main Handeemeen had called me "Mother" or "Mom" in some occasions.

I admit that my heart melted and I had to fight the urge of wrappin' my arms around them.

I often get called "Mom" by Scout. I am not sure if she does it intentionally or doesn't realize it. Still she often goes back and fort referrin' to Owen and I as "Mom and Dad" or simply "Owen and Amy"

Daisy did once accidentally call me Mother. I was helpin'with the measurements to make meat pie recipe my mama lent her. After helpin' her set the oven, she gave me a quick hug and said "Thank you, Mother!"

Then she went to change her robes and yelp when she realized what she had said. She didn't really address it but I noticed that she is unsure if that bothers me (which I don't mind at all)

Nick Nack had called me Mother once. I was the one who clapped first and cheered him in one of his performances. He thank me and called me mother. Mortimer didn't seem to like it tho, and Nick noticed it. That was the last time Nick ever called me that, but I can see in his eyes that he certainly is starting to love me as his mother...

Riley and Mortimer only address me as "Ms. Kruber, sometimes just Amy.

Mortimer tolerates me, still he is quite jealous of his father and...umm the fact that Owen and I are startin' to date.

Riley....umm doesn't like me that much but doesn't hate me either.

Regardin' the other handeemen, I'm still learnin' Sock puppet so I am not sure how do they see me

The automatons now consider me their mother after they watched Annie for the first time and after I agreed to read them a bedtime story. They said that I was their mother.

They're the only ones who call me that out of all the handeemen.

I still have a lot of fun tellin' my peers about my children

This blog was created by @phantom-of-the-ruckus for her/their AU inspired by the Nancy Drew books. This would mostly contain lore drops and perhaps some stuff Phantom makes when she/they have time to do stuff (as university is a thing.)

This is surely but fun. Characters are not related (Phantom doesn't believe they're actually related, but will not do cannon x cannon content) and there won't be any romance whatsoever. Perhaps implications of a one-sided crush, but it would be like a mention (up to change)

So here are some basics of this universe! (Feel free to ask in the chat box)

This is inspired by the Nancy Drew mystery books, however this contains some touches of supernatural elements and horror.

If Phantom/MrsWatermelon writes about this, it would be divided by individual mysteries but with something connected to "Meadmalfort Valley" (place of the AU)

Riley would be the protagonist and will partake the role of Nancy in her books. Her name in the Au is "Riley Drew Ruckus" with Drew being her middle name

This AU takes some inspiration from the Nancy Drew movie from 2007 (I believe) so there might be a few references to that.

Most of the characters would be adaptations of Nancy's friends int he books.

I might do some entries that Riley made during her first day after moving to her new home

Some trivia-

Riley usually goes by Riley or Riley Drew (Nancy Drew books exist in this AU)

Riley is not as popular or goes quite well with everyone like the OG Nancy did.

The first portion of his AU would be known as "Riley Drew and the twisted mirror clue"

Riley and Mortimer are good friends and have a sort of mentor and mentee relationship.

Nick and Riley would be just frenemies in a Platonic relationship. (This might get to the cannon unrequited crush, but I don't feel like adding it tbh)

Era is around the early 2000s and the recent 2000s (TBH)

Heres some information on my hello puppets oc, star!!~

• she was on the Mortimer Handeeman show before the fire

• shes a puppet

• after the place burnt down + she got control of her host, she decided to get connections with the other Handeemen. This is how she became Riley Ruckus' assistant 

• " you cant just decide to be a hero one day..." 

• shes VERY close to riley, like... obviously, they are dating. They started dating like... 5 months after the fire at handeeman studios. Its like... dumb idiot x intelligent genius

• Star is very defensive and impulsive. Shes also kinda hot headed. But shes VERY loyal and dedicated to those she cares about. And shes also very selfless to others. 

• in game, she has a section of the studio where a power switch is located. Star paces around the room, if she catches you she chases you down. BUT her ears are sensitive, you need to lure her to a different part of the room and play a distorted vhs tape to stall her.

• shes scared/respects mortimer

• she understands where Scouts coming from, but simply dislikes her...

Hello! In the "Fleshing out the Muse AU" post, you mentioned that Mortimer "cast a spell on Muse that is slowly turning them into a puppet", so i wanted to ask would Nick Nack and the others ( excluding Mortimer of course) notice that Muse is changing into a puppet or would they think nothing about it?

( Sorry if this sounds weird.)

Not weird at all! I was actually gonna make a post going into more detail about this, so you're actually a bit ahead of me.

First, how the spell works for context:

- The spell is extremely slow acting. When Mortimer first cast it, the Muse may have thought it didn't work and that they would be fine.

- it took a few days for the spell to take effect, turning parts of Muse's body wooden. Now, depending on the Musesona it may be different, but the "canon" starting point for the spell is Muse's fingertips, and over two months, their arms.

Now onto reactions!

- Nick, of course was the first to notice. He was VERY upset with Mortimer and stole the spellbook to hopefully help Muse find the cure. There was none, though; only a recipe for a concoction that slows down its progression. He tries his best to comfort them if they're upset by it. He dug around in the dressing rooms and found some gloves for muse to cover up the puppet hands for when they go in public.

- Daisy was HORRIFIED when she noticed. Why would her brother do such a thing to poor Muse? Muse was likely upset at first, so she made some treats to cheer them up. She's also there if Muse needs to vent to someone other than Nick.

- Riley doesn't like Muse, but she was still appalled by Mortimer's actions. All she really did to help was pat Muse on the back and be less passive aggressive to them, but hey, it's something right?

- bonus Owen! Owen was shocked and angry when he discovered what happened. He offered to let Muse take some time off and he confiscated the book from Mortimer after he got it back from Nick. Mortimer received one hell of a lecture. Owen checks on Muse from time to time, promising to find a cure even if there isn't one in the book.

- In fact, he likes to write his poetry or paint in the same room as or near Muse. Something about their artistic process helps him with his.

Daisy Danger

- Daisy loves getting new clothes!

- every time she tries a new outfit on, she does a little twirl and tells Muse how much she likes it.

- she treats her archived outfits like a wardrobe

Riley Ruckus

- Riley prefers her lab coats they're comfy and easy to wear she only wears the coustumes for the episodes, that's it.

- one or two times she was mad at Muse, some of the archived outfits "accidentally" came to be chewed up by Rosco.

- she sometimes comes to Muse to get one of her coats fixed, begrudgingly.

Mortimer Handee

- he actually loves getting new outfits as well, but he'll never admit it.

- wears some of his favorites privately, but gets very upset if someone finds him.

- very strict about how his outfits fit. It needs to be perfect for such a dapper fellow!

new to the muse au and the hello puppets fandom! just wanted to ask: what about a mute muse? (either from birth or from a traumatic event) how would that go?

- as the Handeemen work with real children, they all understand and can use sign language, so there's no barrier for them there!

- Nick, however can be a bit smothering with the "tragedy of lack of speech" thing, though he doesn't mean bad by it.

-He's a chatterbox himself, and watches Muse like a hawk to see if they're signing. If they don't sign, he is very good at reading people's body language.

- Mortimer and Riley couldn't care less that Muse is mute, Daisy, however, gets super defensive if someone is mean to Muse, and is the first to step up as an interpreter if need be! (That is, if Nick doesn't beat her to it)

how about a Muse that likes to create cake art? Like, a cake shaped to look like something, not cake decorated with a picture, but the muse could do that too (google “Cake Art”, and you will probably see what I mean). I imagine that this muse will spend time with Daisy as much as Nick, but I’m curious on what you will come up with

Cake artist! Muse

As stated in previous hc posts, Nick is floored by a muse that takes part in any art form. Though cake art isn't usually what people picture when talking of art, Nick is more than willing to learn about Muse's activities.

Daisy is freindly with Muse nonetheless, but in this scenario she's good friends with Muse since their hobbies align so well. Though Daisy primarily makes pies, she's more than enthusiastic to brush up on the cake recipes.

Daisy is not much of a decorator herself, and is a little embarrassed with how basic her cakes come out, so she was estatic to let muse "work their magic" and learn from Muse.

Nick on the other hand, can't decorate a cake of his life depended on it. Most group decoration sessions end in disaster because of it. Though Muse is happy to help Nick improve!

Can the muse be FtM?

Could I get some headcanons for a muse that's Trans and has a distaste for humanity that sees the transformation as an absolute win in their book?

Hopeful that he can have an easier time being himself as a puppet than as a human being?

How would Nick Nack help him with gender dysphoria?

- signed a trans man that wants to jump on the self insert muse train but is slightly scared of you-

Gender-affirming alterations are much easier when Muse is puppetfied, though wooden puppetificaton slightly harder to alter than felt, there's nothing wood filler and varnish cant fix! Also, who needs T when you can just paint on (or glue yarn on to represent) facial hair?

Nick has no preferences for gender. He thinks Muses of all identities are attractive and inspiring! And ofc, hes extremely supportive through dysphoria, being there to affirm Muse as much as he can.

Daisy is quite possibly the greatest ally to ever exist. Anything that vaugley resembles a pride flag is shown to Muse. (Dont tell anybody, but she's knitting a trans-colored sweater for him as a gift)

Riley, an member of the T in LGBT herself is willing to help with any alterations. (I hc her as a demigirl she just has thar energy yaknow?)

Mortimer is a bit relieved to find Muse is actually ok with the curse turned blessing. He really didn't want to hunt down a cure.

I have something, what if muse had split personality that had a different voice from theirs? Like maybe it's a male voice or something. Maybe it's an entity that was bound to them? How would the puppets react?

Gonna say that the entity sharing Muse's body is a neutral one for this, bc it being entirely malevolent or the other way around could be a game changer

Nick is entranced by this, separate entities in one body? It would be pretty awkward if Nick started hitting on muse while the entity was in control, so he double checks EVERY time. Especially if there's no visual indicator.

Daisy is a bit scared if Muse and the entity. I headcanon her as pretty superstitious.

Riley is perpetually taking notes in the background to this phenomenon. She's trying to find any scientific explanation to this.

Mortimer is pretty indifferent. Just normal odd happenings in his mind.

How about a Muse who is a director? Like they help make sure things run smoothly!

Nick really admires Muse, and all of their hard work. Since Muse is usually busy, he often hangs around Muse and draws them as they work.

Daisy mainly sees Muse as her boss, treating their word as truth second only to Owen's. As such, Muse could say gullible was written on the bottom of her shoe and Daisy would end up falling over.

Riley doesn't really care all that much. As long as shooting is done and she can get back to her work, she's indifferent.

Mortimer really dislikes Muse's position of athority. He's the leader after all! (Thats what he thinks at least) he's a bit more snarky than he'd usually be.
