the rent-a-friend au is so fun for me to write bc my approach to all the characters + settings is to flip what exists in canon LOL so like- wanmin is famous in-game, but it's a beloved hole-in-wall in the story. chongyun is a photographer, but he gets distracted by ghost stories and runs off to catch them on camera even tho he never succeeds. things like that!! they're flipped but still familiar and i just love it 🤣🤣

Nika the author here, sharing the reference for Childe's street fashion during his "first date" with Zhongli~

As a Snezhnayan superstar/idol, Childe has worked hard to cultivate his sense of color coordination and mastery over fashion trends. He has been known to set trends himself, back in his home country. When he came to Liyue, he actually had no idea how to dress in a casual style suitable for the weather, so he spent many nights up in his original hotel room studying with P.A.I.M.O.N.

Despite his devil-may-care attitude, Childe can be quite meticulous!

Excerpt from the story

[Childe] is wearing a light gray tee-shirt printed with the words “You can do it, Guoba,” in blocky black text and a monochrome caricature of Liyue’s most beloved animated character, all on top of a thin, dark navy hoodie – no doubt aware of the way navy makes ginger hair “pop.” He has matched this with a pair of similarly dark-colored cargo pants and ill-fated white sneakers Zhongli is sure will be dirtied in the puddles as they walk. However, what catches his eye is the candy apple red fanny pack cinched around an admittedly graceful waistline, and the way ‘Childe’ holds himself with a kind of effortless, breezy confidence.
