Dwarf Fortress Wiki: when picking your first set of recruits, pick dwarves with titles like "fish cleaner" because that titles means they're useless at everything else and society would lose nothing if they died.
Meanwhile my fish cleaner is working 24/7 because he's the bottleneck on feeding my entire fortress and everyone would starve if he died.
