i just heard news that google recently made a so-called "update of death" for the pixel 4a, for which the update essentially drains the battery much faster. what google said was that the update "reduces available battery capacity and impacts charging performance". this is downloaded automatically the moment after the software is released.

the thing is apparently people found out that those who want to go back to the previous version cannot do that anymore because google deleted old firmwares of pixel 4a. the official options now are 3: those impacted are entitled with either the battery replacement program, a 50 dollar compensation, or 100 dollar Google Store credit. and that's only for what google terms as "Impacted Devices", because they claim not all pixel phones were impacted.

it kinda sucks they decide to put out this update. the last time this was done, at least from my recollection, was galaxy note7, and the rationale was that note7's batteries were faulty so they had to lower the charging threshold so that it does not explode. pixel 4a's case.....is just asking people to do the extra mile to preserve their phone or a new one, which is unheard of to me.
