#don't go in the 'problem of susan' tumblr tag #bad idea. there are scary people in there #i'm gonna ramble about her on this post so that maybe i don't try to write a fanfic again #like UGH it drives me crazy seeing people try to justify how it's 'not that bad'#'it wasn't about being feminine it was about her thinking she was too grown up for narnia!'#first of all. you Cannot pretend CS Lewis was not misogynistic #no matter how much social context you put around him #fuck right off with that #even if the nylons and lipstick are more representative of adulthood at the time #it doesn't change the fact that the role susan plays is always one limited by lewis' misogyny #also!! it's still bad that she's closed out of 'heaven' for being too grown up for it!#& i don't care if she'll 'get back someday'#bc at the end of the day that's the other thing #these books are christian allegory #you can't separate it #& susan gets the worst of 'well-intentioned' christian cruelty #& the worst of the idea of heaven #& i just have strong feelings about 'heaven' & how you grow & live #and if all your siblings die in their twenties #& you reunite someday after you live a whole life #how happy of a reunion can it be?#plus just. she suffers that HORRIFIC tragedy #& we want to talk about whether it was 'her choice' not to go to narnia?#we don't want to think abt the tragedy?#& you can't say it's not that deep bc lewis ALSO dismisses her tragedy!#it's not like he gives her the time or depth or grief she deserves #ugh
