My Only DHMIS Theory
There’s been a lot of talk about the possibility that Yellow Guy is a stand-in for Lesley’s son who was tragically killed in a car accident, but I want to speculate a tiny bit further.
Could the kid Yellow Guy represents actually be Lesley’s step-son? That’s it, that’s my contribution to the topic.
But seriously, something about the echo in Lesley’s voice as she yells “You’re not my real son” makes me think she’s repeating an important piece of dialogue, like she’d said this before and the words are haunting her. Imagine these being the last words to your step-child in a fit of anger, and they end up passing away before you could apologize or make amends? That would drive me into madness way more than if my biological child, whom I never would’ve said this to, died. And, let’s be honest, Lesley’s insane.
And it explains Roy, too. Yellow Guy looks like his father, because they’re biologically related, but Lesley is almost like a wolf in sheep’s clothing with how she dresses in puffy clothes and her skin is patched up. She married into their family at a later time, an outsider coming in and adopting the family name.
As for the following “Kidding!” she adds after her outburst, I interpreted that as her trying to save face after scaring Yellow Guy. For her to act so nice and nurturing to him before and after this moment made it seem like she was putting in an effort to get him to like her, similar to how a step-parent or even a partner of a single parent may try to interact with a child. Remember how Yellow Guy said that he has a family, and only imagined Roy? I’m sure he doesn’t remember his mother, but if Lesley was actually his step-mom, their relationship could have been strained enough that he never considered her a mother, even when he’s reincarnated as a puppet.

Don't Hug Me Neighbor

Tumblr media
《Warnings: the subject matter this ARG has are potentially disturbing. DEAD DOVE DO NOT EAT. Welcome Home was created by Clown @ partycoffin. DHMIS also obtains potentially disturbing content, be mindful.》
-
The four of ya'll walk outside gazing at the upcoming houses and buildings in the distance. "Why, why are those houses so far from our own?" Yellow asked, pulling on your hand. You shrug, "can't say I know."
"Maybe it's because we're better than them," Duck replied with a prideful look. "Or maybe it's because we aren't..." Red mutters, his enthusiasm becoming less with each step the group took.
In the center of the colorful neighborhood stood a brilliant red house, with a couple of other houses and buildings surrounding it like a circle.
"Wow, it's so.." Duck interrupted Red quickly.
"Dull. Very dull."
"What? No. It's not dull."
"I like it." Yellow expresses. "Yeah, he likes it. Why can't you?"
"Because that house has two giant eyes that are staring at me."
Your group turns to look at the red house, it blinks right back at you.
"Erm.." You pull Yellow closer to you as the red home sets its eyes, or curtains, on you.
"Oh c'mon now, didn't that stupid notepad come to life before? How is this any different?" Red Guy stares at Duck for a few seconds before nodding. "Yeah, he's right."
The four of you ignore the living house and head in another direction. Going inside a little shop with so many items you could even buy a shed there.
"Howdy new neighbors! The names Howdy! Howdy Pillar, welcome to the neighborhood!"
A caterpillar-like puppet greets the four of you from behind a counter and cash register. He holds out all four limbs for a handshake. Causing Duck to jump back into Red as Yellow stared in awe at the many appendages.
"Yes, hello, we'd like to buy some of your goods. May we take them?" Duck explains, and you huff out a laugh, Howdy too, was chuckling.
"No can do neighbor, you gotta tell me a joke and I'll give you your groceries. Simple as that."
"What? Is that the currency of this place?" Red Guy mumbles as Duck stews in thought.
"Funny joke? Uhm, you kinda look like that, w-worm, no, he was an eagle guy. He went inside my head and gave me a worm in br-rain." Yellow announced curiously, causing Howdy to become quiet at the boys' words...
Your lips becoming a thin line as you recall the incident.
"That stupid worm thought he was a eagle, ha!" Duck mocked. Unaware of Howdy's thoughtful expression.
Before he too, was howling in laughter.
"A worm that thinks he's a bird?! Hahaahhaha!!" The store owner laughed loudly, trying to catch his breath as one of his arms slammed on the counter-top.
"Never heard that one! Interesting delivery there, bud'!" Howdy ruffles Yellows messy blue hair kindly, "So? What can I get ya'll?"
You step in, a simple smile on your face. "Coffee-"
"Now hold on," Duck interrupted, looking up at you. "I have my own specific items I need, I don't want them to be lumped with yours."
"Okay? But what I am getting is for everyone."
"Right, but I'm not everyone. I'm me, and I need things for me." Duck reiterates before pulling out a list and handing it to you. "You... You want more paper? Why?"
"For my shredder! Keep up!"
"Okay.. Can we have some paper-"
"Oh! And Chuddle Dollops, please?" Yellow asked, gazing up at you with puppy eyes. You nodded before look at Red expectantly. "Uhm, I'm good."
"Okay then, so..." Howdy lowers down beyond the counter, placing the items you needed. "Coffee, paper and.. Chuddle Dollops? Hm, never heard of that brand before, I didn't even know that was in stock! Oh well."
Handing over the bags, you thank Howdy as Yellow shyly thanked him too. "Thanks mate'," Red said, holding one of the bags for you, Duck nodded to the bodega owner before all four you left.
"Hm, strange neighbor's.. But they seem nice." Howdy comments to himself before wiping down the counter.
"I agree, they all are quite oddities."
"Oh! Didn't see ya' there Wally. The usual right?"

I’ve heard some DHMIS fans say the TV Show/Season 2 feels more optimistic and hopeful than the Web Show/Season 1. Like that the trio is more independent and offers a bit more resistance against the teachers. So it makes them more hopeful they can break out/fight against this Horrible Situation.
And I mean, I do see where this interpretation is coming from. The three do have a lot more agency in the TV Show, a lot more control over the narrative. While in the Webshow they spend nearly the whole duration episode just sort of going along and following a Teacher’s lead. Plus they are a lot more likely to talk back to a teacher -
Tumblr media
Try and go against the teacher -
Tumblr media
Just annoy the shit out of a Teacher -
Tumblr media
AND THEY’RE EVEN CAPABLE OF CAUSING THE DEATH OF A TEACHER!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Plus, the Teachers themselves are often less explicitly sinister and/or antagonistic. Especially when you consider reappearances of Web-Show Teachers consistently show them as being on more amicable terms with the trio. Like Tony mostly just chilling there -
Tumblr media
And Colin being extremely friendly with them.
Tumblr media
And like, yeah, all of these things are true. But still, for me, the helplessness and hopelessness of the trio situation is a lot more palatable on the TV Show. Their whole situation feels a lot more dire.
Cause the thing is, yes, the teachers are less obviously sinister and the characters talk back to them more in the TV Episodes - but they are also more likely to totally buy into their bullshit and vehemently agree with them and even argue about it with the others. (See: Red Guy in "Jobs" and "Family", Yellow Guy and Duck in "Transport)
It’s especially notable when you compare Red Guy’s behavior between the two versions of DHMIS. Since in the Web Show he was the first one to ‘break away’ from their world (or at least try). While in the web-continuity, he was pretty consistently disinterested in the Teacher’s lessons - generally only reacting to express his annoyance or befuddlement at them -
Tumblr media
The TV Show puts a lot more emphasis on his personal foibles, and how despite his detached and apathetic attitude - he is just as likely to fall into the bullshit of some ‘Teachers’ in the right situation.
And while the TV Show also emphasizes Duck’s ability to Defy the Narrative - it also emphasizes how much this independence is based less on his intelligence -
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And more on his ego.
I want to be in a family, I want to be the dad!
So with every character’s ‘resistance’ to the Teacher really depending on their personal behavior and flaws, we don’t really get moments like that thing in ‘Time’ where they all together started questioning Tony’s lesson.
Tumblr media
And that’s also a thing that is less prevalent about the TV Continuity in general, the trio are less in harmony with each other. Obviously, it is a requirement of the format. The show has more emphasis on the puppets’ personalities and therefore gives more focus to their interpersonal conflicts. While in the Webshow they were seen more-or-less as a single Unit, with each their own personal quirks, but generally being Together and having pretty much the same goals - in the TV Show they are a lot more separate and distinctive. But that can also mean they can turn on each other and hurt each other.
The fact they have more Agency in the story also means they can cause damage and hurt like the Teachers can.
With the bigger focus on character comes a much bigger focus on the long-term effects of their ‘Format’ over their lives and thoughts. They don’t just sort-of ‘go along’ with whatever bizarre object has bursted into their house, but they have actually internalized the core concept behind all of those lessons, they internalized all sorts of ideas of how they’re supposed to act and what they’re supposed to do and what they are capable of doing. And they will reinforce it amongst themselves, no Teacher needed.
We don't have the Transport Man, it's just us three! We can't just... do stuff, just us three, can we?
While the last episode of the Web Show has both surviving members of the trio apart and separated, they've both come to the conclusion that their life is Wrong from their own perspective.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And Duck figured it out just before he died)
Tumblr media
The TV Show’s final episode shows how the Trio themselves (and especially Red and Duck’s sense of superiority over Yellow) is much more effective at keeping them in line then just a Teacher. The Insurance Safe was easily discouraged by Yellow’s intelligence and knowledge, but Red’s unease and Duck’s hostility is what actually made him feel bad.
Tumblr media
And before Yellow Guy, Red Guy was the one trying to get them all free the episode before that - the Teacher was pretty helpless to stop them - but his friends were the ones constantly urging him to go back home.
And at the end of episode 6, they all doom each other, and themselves.
Tumblr media
And while the ending to the Web Show is ambiguous, and can be read in a very negative light, there is at least some element of change and disruption in it. Red at least tried to pull the plug. And even if it is all doomed to repeat again and again, some things, no matter how small, have been shifted.
Tumblr media
The TV Show’s ending is a lot more direct, but also a lot more directly hopeless. Yellow Guy’s attempt to break free has failed. There has been no real change or shift, or disruption - the house is back to normal, this loop has probably happened thousands of times before. They are just as trapped as they were before, and they are all willfully oblivious to it.
One interpretation for the ending of the Web Series is that it demonstrates how the trauma of the ‘Lessons’ will remain with the characters forever, or that the indoctrination they suffered still lingers or that they might be doomed to repeat these patterns in themselves or with others. If this is true, then the TV Show’s greater focus on character really helps to demonstrate how this trauma and indoctrination affects them. Even if they were to break out of it, they will bring something of it with themselves wherever they go, they might even drag each other straight back into it - because it’s all they know.
The show also puts a much bigger emphasis on this fact, that this strange situation they are trapped in is all that they know. Just watching the Webshow on its own, you can’t really tell how long this has been going on - it could just be one very weird day. And you could kinda separate the Trio’s lives and the teachers intruding on them. Before the TV Show, it was easy to imagine a version of their lives where they are not constantly hounded by Singing Living Objects, and that it wasn't that different and it wasn't that long ago. Like, it wasn’t a surefire thing or the authorial intent - but it was at least a valid interpretation of the text.
The TV Show makes it clear that yes, the house and their entire living situation is part of that terrible surreal experience. It’s not just about their occasional edutainment misadventures, it is really everything about their world that is wrong and confining and nightmarish. Their rooms and their own house, and the world outside their window is all part of this Actual Nightmare. And it really is all they know. As far as they can tell, their life has always been defined by being trapped inside a nonsense house and being hounded by living objects. I mean, in retrospect that was probably also true for the Web Show but, again, the TV Show is a lot more explicit about that.
And the ‘outside’/‘real’ world is… okay, we have no way to be sure whatever either the Red Guy World seen in the end of “Health” and the beginning of “Dreams'', or the Junkyard seen in “Transport” is actually real or just like, another layer of illusions but still… The ‘world outside’ seen on the web show looks drab and soul-crushingly boring but it’s still fairly livable. If the only real problem is that it’s dull and too grown-up, then it’s easy to assume that if Red Guy could save Yellow Guy and Duck and get them out - then it wouldn’t be that bad. They could give color to that gray world themselves.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile… The glimpses of the ‘Real World’ in ‘Transport’ just looked like a junkyard. But considering how the puppets were wandering from daytime to nighttime without finding any way out or any other signs of life, and considering Duck’s Visual Inventory included stuff like “one skull” and “one bag of meat” - I think this is less of an ordinary junkyard and more of a post apocalyptic wasteland.
Tumblr media
So, even if the trio could ever break free of their surreal felt world - it’s unclear whether or not they could survive outside of it. Even if their world is a nightmare, that might be better than waking up.
And while the teachers are nicer, or at least less actively malevolent, their presence and influence is constantly felt. Like, even when there isn’t a Lesson ‘actively’ going on - there’s often some googly-eyed motherfucker just… watching them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yeah, maybe the fact Tony doesn’t do anything but tell the Time Child they’re absent shows that he’s a nicer guy in this continuity. But… even if the teachers are generally kinder, they’re still prone to overriding their ‘Students’ wills and opinions, often disrespectful and/or manipulative, and generally care more about being smarter than their students than actually being right. Even Electracey, probably the most straight-up benevolent and competent teacher we’ve ever seen on the show -
Tumblr media
Seems to have issues understanding the mortality of organic beings.
Tumblr media
So there’s still a lot to be weary of the fact these guys are constantly watching our main characters. Even if they’re not quite as sinister as they were before. Besides, even if the Teachers were just the nicest folks ever - it is still rather sad and concerning that the Trio are constantly watched like that in general. Like, they basically have no privacy. Even disregarding Lesley and maybe even us the audience. Someone is always watching.
And they can’t do anything about it.
And the thing that I’m thinking about most… it’s something specifically with Colin the Computer. Like, it seems like he’s the most unambiguous and straightforward example of how much nicer Teachers are on the TV Show. Compared to the data-harvesting control freak he was on the Webshow, he has become such a sweetie! So polite and complimentary and friendly to the trio! But the thing is… it’s very easy to be nice and sweet to people who are already doing what you want.
Tumblr media
In the Webshow, the trio were at least somewhat in conflict with Colin because they wanted different things. The trio were having a quiet board game night at home and maybe wanted to learn about the World, and Colin was determined to pull them into his computer world. As Red Guy pointed out, they already had a computer. So they didn’t really need him or his ‘lesson’ about computers. They were totally independent of him. It was easy to see Colin’s pushy and over-controlling tendencies in that situation.
Tumblr media
But that sort of conflict is simply not present in the TV version of Colin. It’s hard to tell if TV!Colin would have acted better if the trio were not as interested in using him because he is simply never put in that situation. That’s the part that always sticks to me; unlike in the Webshow - Colin is the only computer they have. He is actually their only connection to the digital world, the internet. They can’t wait to use him because he only comes around once a year. He joins in on the trio’s insults towards Warren because they would all just like to go back to focusing on Colin.
Tumblr media
The things that do maybe make Colin come across as genuinely kinder on the TV Show are the facts he offers to help with Yellow Guy’s situation (and doesn’t interrupt or distract them after the solution extends beyond looking it up on Colin) and gives them that ‘Glass Spherical Computer’ In the end - ensuring that they won’t be that dependent on him after all. I mean, I think you can argue about whether the ‘replacement’ computer being made of very fragile glass is such an unlucky coincidence or not… but even if we give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he legit wanted to make them less dependent on him…
The fact that was the situation in the first place, that they could only go online one day in a year, and had to be constantly monitored by Some Guy (who was also acting as their computer)- no matter how well-intentioned he is - is still deeply fucked up!
I think that at the end of the day, me and the folks who see TVDHMIS in a more optimistic light aren’t really in disagreement. At least not about the actual contents of the web and TV shows. It’s more that we have different priorities about what’s the most disturbing elements of the trio’s Actual Nightmare. Because yes, it is true they are put in the care of less Actively Malevolent Teachers this time around. And it is true they are less actively suffering, and they have a bit more agency now.
But for me, the bigger emphasis on the constant surveillance they live under, the focus on how much this situation affects their lives and relationships and psyche, and the trio’s tendency to hurt each other and doom themselves - makes the world of the show feel more hopeless and bleak to me.

Hello 👋 so I was wondering if you'd do a wally darling x reader so like if you know the headcannon of DHMIS of yellow guy and wally being related so like what if yellow guy came to visit wally and how would the reader react to him if not that's totally cool
anyway love your work keep up the great work and make sure to also take care of yourself 🩷💙
Oh, I’m familiar with the headcanon!! It’s one i find quite silly, myself /pos hehe!!
And thank you!! I’ll be sure to pace myself! I’m just having a lot of fun filling out these requests :] thank you, though!!! <33 /g /p
Tumblr media
Unexpected Visitor!
Wally Darling x GN!Reader, but Yellow Guy(DHMIS) visits!
Headcanons format, relationship with Wally can be interpreted by the reader— but pre-established friends (at the very least)!
*Note, I’m going to refer to Yellow Guy as “Manny” in this!.. Yeah, I’m one of those old fans.. /lhj HAHA!! Along with that, Manny is going to be Wally’s nephew in this!! Look me in my eyes and tell me Wally doesn’t reek of gay uncle… /lhj
Tumblr media
You and Wally had just been hanging out, in Home! Just sitting around and chatting, really, as the lovely little house itself creaked to add on!
In the middle of your conversation, though, a few quick knocks would come from the door— seeming to make everyone pause a bit.
I wonder who it could be!
As Wally approached the door and pulled it open— what appeared to be.. someone quite akin to him, appearance wise, stood there! Though quite obviously a child.
Wally seems to smile a bit, and warmly welcomes them inside! He spares you a small glance, the sort of apologetic “I’m sorry, I forgot to mention this was going to happen today!” kind.
Wally is a lovely host and friend, though, and soon warmly introduces the both of you to one another!
You learn the kid’s name is Manny, and he’s Wally’s nephew! Apparently, he was just coming to visit for the day.
For you, I’ll say, your opinion was neutral! Any friend of Wally’s was a friend of yours, though, right? And you wouldn’t be actively hostile to a child! (… right, reader?? Right?? /j)
Eventually, though, Wally sets Manny up with a colour book he had laying around! Seemingly for when Manny visited!
The two seemed close, and eventually you had all settled onto the floor. Wally was on his stomach, kind of just watching Manny scribble onto the colouring book— albeit timidly avoiding any of the green crayons— and nodding along as he rambled.
“And.. and then we— uh,.. we.. we went into a car..” As he just nods along happily. Wally always had been a good listener, and it seemed to apply to Manny as well!
You were happy to be there. Why, you wouldn’t necessarily say you were a pro with kids, but you did make the lil squirt giggle a few times with an appropriately landed joke!
Either way, Manny seemed pleasant, and it was slightly heartwarming to see Wally just.. hang out with him.
Of course, Wally was apart of a TV Show for kids!- But there still wasn’t any actual children in the neighbourhood, so you hadn’t ever seen him in action. Until today, of course..
Despite the unexpected visit, you still had a pleasant time with the two! How lovely :]
Tumblr media
Hello!! I’m sorry if this one didn’t come out too well-! I wasn’t really sure how to make the reader react, y’know? But I hope it was still enjoyable to have me give my thoughts on Wally and Manny’s dynamic!! I imagine them to be very sweet, haha!!
Thank you for requesting!! Have a lovely day <3

OKAY OKAY I ACTUALLY NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS
For those who don't know, there's this web + TV series called "Don't Hug Me I'm Scared" (shortened as "dhmis") where this trio of puppets get taught these lessons throughout their day. However, these lessons aren't exactly taught really well and it all turns into chaos. But at the end, it all goes back to some type of normal (or for some episodes anyways (mostly from the TV series)).
Now that we have that out of the way, I can talk about the demons! The trio in dhmis don't really have names (they've only been dubbed as Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Duck) so I wanted to do the same but give some meaning to them, ones that I won't mention in this post because I'm still not too settled on Mouse's. But here are the names we'll be using:
Badboyhalo - Bad
IronMouse - Mouse
Tina - Angel
Now, I know that last one is confusing but trust me, I have a reason for it.
I like to think that this is kind of a purgatory for them but they don't quite remember, nor does it make sense that Mouse is there since she isn't a fallen angel like the two of them. But we'll get into that a different time.
I also like the idea of Bad being there before the two and has come to terms with it and is trying to figure a way out. He doesn't quite remember when Mouse appeared, nor when Angel appeared, but they certainly didn't arrive together. But they're nice to have around, aside from the arguments they get themselves into.
And that's mostly it for this post. If I ever get the time, maybe I'll draw some designs and if I get a good photo, I'll post them here! :D If you have any questions, PLEASE feel free to ask (especially because it'll help figuring some stuff out!)

[banging pots and pans] torment night! it's dhmis theory torment night!
TONIGHT i am TORMENTED over: the implication from 6 that duck and red were somehow created just for this world to watch over yellow, who is probably more of a real person than them
(whatever that means in this context. we don't have enough information about the nature of everything yet. bear with me please)
the evidence presented to the court (under the cut bc this got way longer than i expected):
WHY are there no versions of YELLOW on the higher floors? WHY do the big and bigger versions of his friends say they've been waiting for him to learn alongside them?
the line about them no longer being in charge of him... implying that at some point there was an assumption that those two were caretakers or watchers-over, even though they didn't act like it? they mostly acted like friends. like really condescending jerk friends who still cared about him, but mostly like friends. i know we joke about them being parents to him, but they don't really act it.
this is more an argument from symbolism but: only yellow has batteries and is thus is able to move autonomously from an electrical outlet, which obv ties in thematically to his revelations about the weirdness of the world while his friends are left behind. what does that then say about the guys without batteries? does that imply the other two are less autonomous and more linked to this world?
we do not see any replacements in lesley's drawer for anyone but duck, so DUCK at least is most likely to be artificial, given how rigid he tends to be in behavior and how he questions things least alongside this little visual tidbit.
"but op!" you're not asking, "we know that duck doesn't usually question the world and mostly just gets annoyed with it, but what about RED? doesn't he always feel out of place? what about him escaping in the original series?"
my answer: he never actually escaped in the original series. going back and watching original 6 after the new series, the "real world" that he is in... does not seem quite real. it falls away so readily. everyone in it is just another version of him. he doesn't even free the three of them; pulling the plug just resets the world. it might just be a higher layer of the world they're in.
as for feeling out of place: i think an artificial being that gains sentience can and will feel that
and now we get to what torments me so much: if yellow's tragedy is that his existence IS somehow more than the simulation but he's had that taken from him, and if the other two guys are both artificial and their existences are dependent on this world, it make both of them tragic in opposite ways. duck's tragedy is being an artificial being who simply cannot be anything more. RED'S tragedy is being an artificial being who so strongly WANTS to be something more.
and the thing! is! i think that they're gaining more autonomy as they spend more time existing and interacting with each other and yellow. if you watch the three guys' character progression from 1-5, just like in the original series, you can see the three of them start doing more and more and more stuff on their own besides just Sitting There and Receiving The Lesson. and just for red and duck's part, ofc there's That Scene between them in 6; when the lights are off and the world seems shut down, they still move, and they express more vulnerable feelings than normal. (is there meaning to how they are cut off before they can talk about how they feel about yellow? is there meaning to the fact that their demeanor completely shifts the moment a bit of light re-enters the room? probably. hard to say exactly what at this point though).
i fully accept that this theory may be wrong. compels me though. and by compels me i mean it has me on the ground writhing

the early bird is the worm - some thoughts on Warren the Eagle
i’ve been fixating on Warren from DHMIS a lot (oh lord why did it have to be him 😭💖) and enjoying a lot of the conversation around his character, both positive and negative! so i wanted to get some thoughts down about him and see what other people think. the writers did an amazing job of portraying an instantly unlikable guy, and i want to examine that unlikability, to see what we can learn about him and his mindset:
a little bit of a recap: when Warren accuses Red Guy and Duck of being bad friends, and the two respond that it’s Yellow Guy’s fault for forgetting the password, Warren doesn’t try to defend Yellow Guy. instead, he goes on a defensive, egotistical tirade about how because he’s not ‘technically affiliated’ with the OK Stop organisation, they dont think he knows a bad friendship when he sees one. with no prompting, Warren has inserted himself into the interpersonal troubles of another group (that he doesn’t know!!) and made himself out to be the person being attacked. Warren is not a good Samaritan. it’s got nothing to do with Yellow Guy being bullied at all - this is all a vicious ego trip for Warren, who feels persecuted by people he doesn’t even know and projects himself onto other people he perceives to be victims.  it’s fascinating, and why i feel it’s a disingenuous interpretation to assume the ‘Warren the Eagle’ name is some mean-spirited joke towards trans people - as a trans person myself, i was worried too! but i realised that it’s not literally about him not being an eagle because he doesn’t have wings - it’s because Warren is oblivious to who he is and the way he treats other people. he’s a social parasite who dresses up his problems in victim-supporting language, validating his toxic behaviours that leave the people around him exhausted and upset. Warren refuses to take accountability for his behaviour and latches onto Yellow Guy despite not having a genuine interest in him or his wellbeing. Warren just wants to be liked, and he realises that in Yellow Guy’s safe space (his brain), he can be...even if he ends up hurting Yellow Guy in the process. Warren being a worm is visual shorthand. pretty much everyone immediately had a visceral response to him and his uncomfortable, invasive behaviour, and the fact that he views himself as a creature that is so radically different from what he actually is - an eagle instead of a worm - is supposed to communicate to us that his perspective is warped to the point that he cannot (or just refuses to acknowledge) how nasty he is to others. you’ll notice that Yellow Guy’s Brain Friends - who are portrayed as a positive, healthy force - are immediately accepting of Warren’s identity and validate his thoughts without question, because they want to be supportive. they’re doing a nice thing, and it’s not played for laughs! but Warren takes advantage of that kindness, and it doesn’t take long for those friends to grow tired of his behaviour. they do the healthy thing by removing themselves from the equation.  so, yes...i like Warren as a character a lot, because i think he is a great representation of how you can’t just appropriate the language of positive mental health without doing the actual therapeutic work of unlearning your problematic behaviours. he’s equal parts stubborn and ignorant, and it seems he identifies with being an eagle less in a ‘this is a trans allegory’ sense, and more in a ‘i refuse to acknowledge that i’m being an asshole to the people around me because i am the best and everyone should cater to me.’ sense. that being said, i’m very excited to see more lore and meta and character development for Warren from the fandom! i think headcanoning him as trans is awesome - on that note, did you know that earthworms are intersex? i’m also delighted by the rise of the LoveBird ship (Shrignold/Warren) and the potential for both of them to learn to love in a way which works for them both...the dynamic is so neat 😖💖 that being said, what do you think? do you love Warren? are you indifferent? do you want him to die in a fire? i’d love to know! 🥰

RED GUY X MALE! READER
(YES IM KINDA HYPERFIXATED ON DHMIS shut it /j)
(I also hc that due to their little.. situation-- the crew kind of doesn't have a firm concept of what romantic love truly is.)
(And please note this is the first time I wrote a fic for DHMIS. I tried to capture Red as good as i could, so please be easy with me if I got him out of character at some parts. Thats just how I think he'd be showing affection.)
-------------------
In this silly little world, of silly little things; Y/N and his friends were having fun, playing loads of games and playing with strings.
Then the power went out, and gosh, oh no! Y/N was left to sit with Red Guy all alone.
The Duck and Yellow went out to go find whatever source of power they could use for a compromise, while Y/N and Red waited together in company.
The two friends were left together, coveted in the dark, making sure they were close but apart.
Y/N held his knees against his chest, and took a long breath. "You, um.. think anyone'll come by while were alone? Like those.. teachers, or whatever." Asked Y/N, looking up at the tentacle covered man.
"Well, you never really know, do you?" Replied Red, readjusting his position. "I.. I guess not?" Replied Y/N, averting his gaze from his red friend beside him. He out a slightly terrified groan as he looked down at the ground.
"Hey.. on the bright side, at least you won't be alone if one does come along." Red said, in an attempt to cheer Y/N up from his rather depressed look. He didn't want to seem as if he held no empathy for the shorter/taller man.
Y/N widened his eyes, slightly looking up. "Well, yeah.. I know.. i'm just worried about what they're gonna do to me.. or any of you by chance."
"Dont worry too much, besides.. unfortunately, I'll be here."
Y/N looked further at the now averted gaze of his red friend, and softly smiled at the little nervous twinkle in his eyes. "Heh.. I guess I'm grateful then. Thank you.."
A moment of silence passed the two friends, as the shadows still surrounded them, an empty void all around them and tangling them up. Y/N looked down at his lap, and then his hand. He was shaking. Yet he couldn't seem to understand why. Usually he was never this afraid of the dark.
"So, um.. when are you all gonna kick me out?"
"What?"
Red turned to look at Y/N, raising his eyebrow as if he didn't know what he(Y/N) meant by that. Y/N only looked down at his lap again, and his lips quivered as his hands shivered from the sheer embarrassment of asking that question washed over him like a big tidal wave.
"Well.. since you all.. don't seem to like me much, um.. I figured you were.. um.. all gonna kick me out."
...
A second of silence passed, and then Red spoke up.
"Well, we aren't ever gonna kick you out."
"R.. Really?.."
"Yes.. and i.. I don't believe we hate you either. As.. as a matter of fact, I suppose.."
He couldn't help but notice what appeared to be a faint pink form on his "cheeks".
"..I like.. I like your presence. I like.. I like looking at you. I like seeing you everyday. I like hearing you everyday. It's a shame, but.. there's a lot to like about you."
"Wha.. really? Um.. sorry for repeating that again, but, um.. wow. I didnt-- I didn't think you did.. erm.. sorry for interpreting it wrong, my fault."
"No, stop apologizing. You already do that enough.."
"Oh, um, sorr-- oh wait.. nevermind."
The two sat in silence again, for about a good few minutes. Y/N kept finding himself drawing his attention to Red no matter how hard he tried not to look at him. He, for some reason, was like a radiant sun to him. And he was the ocean below.
Y/N sighed. And did something to compensate for what he was feeling.
He then quickly scooted closer to Red. Red slightly glared down at Y/N, and only raised an invisible eyebrow at his sudden movement. He stared down at him like a telescope staring at a star intensely.
"Why'd you move closer?"
"I dunno.. uh.. I guess you-- you make me feel a bit safer. I-- I can move away if you want--"
"No. Dont."
"O-- Okay.."
A minute of silence passed. Y/N couldn't help but feel a gaze every now and then staring upon him, to the point where he sort of began to feel creeped out. He tucked in his knees again, and slightly whimpered.
It was a bit annoying for him to be like this. He wasn't as tough as the others, he was a little too soft in fact. He knew he should have gotten used to the world around him by now, but for some reason unlike the others, he just.. couldn't.
"Hey."
Y/N flinched curiously at Red randomly speaking at him.
"Look at me."
Y/N felt.. uncertain by this sudden request, but he felt it would be impolite to refuse, so he obliged and stared into the soulless eyes of the one whom requested of him do so. He felt his face warm up a bit.
The way Red was looking at him felt a bit different this time; usually his eyes would be devoid of all emotion and filled with endless sarcasm, yet he could seem to see an emotion he hadn't ever quite seen inside those black eyes of his before.
Red raised his hand, and Y/N slightly lowered his body, not having a clue as to what he could have possibly been about to do. He then felt the hand land on the top of his head, but in a soft manner. And then.. it.. began to rub. Gently.
He felt it go through the tendrils and seperate parts of his hair gently. He had to admit, it did feel a bit.. nice. Yet a tingly sensation ached in his heart; what was with this all the sudden?
"Um.. what are you doing?"
"...I don't know."
Silence.
"Do you want me to stop?"
"No-- no.. keep going.. if you want."
He kept rubbing his hand along his hair, then slowly moved his hand to his face. Gently, he caressed his cheek while still staring at him with a longing glitter of emotions sparkled all across. He didn't know why, but he could have sworn he saw a big blush spread across his cheeks, even in the depths of darkness.
"What-- are you doing this for?" Y/N asked, staring at him.
"...I think i like touching you."
"Oh.. uh.. okay?"
He nervously laughed, as Red then moved his arms foward. He then felt his hand go in circular motions around his back, and he tensed, but his body relieved after a second. It felt calming.. but he still couldn't understand why Red was doing this.
After a while.. he felt himself be pulled closer by of course, Reds arms. He was embracing him now, great. But he couldn't deny it, a little embarrassing as it was, it was a comforting gesture. Reds hand went to his back again, and it rubbed in a circular motion.
As for Reds head, it gently lay atop Y/Ns head, as he left his eyes closed in the softness of the moment. Y/N couldn't help but lay his head on his shoulder.
"I don't think I've ever been this close to someone before."
"Is that why your doing this?"
"...a little, maybe."
...
...
"When.. when the power comes back on, you.. you wanna stay like this?"
"..yes, at least until they're back."
He didn't know why, but even in this moment, you felt as if something horrible was going to happen to him. But he didn't mind. He liked being close with Red. And Red liked being close with him.
He.. he liked Red.

hi idk if you do gendered readers, if not you can just keep in gn but could I please request a (dhmis) duck x male reader where the reader is a chef and likes to bring home allot of odd food like hawaiian pizza, just maybe some hcs or a small drabble/one shot about his reaction to his s/os behavior.
tysm if you do end up doing it!!
your an awesome writer fr, I hope you have a good day/night :]
EEE OMG OMG YES FINALLY A DUCK REQUEST!! (Btw ty and I hope you have a good day/night aswell!!)
Duck x Male! Chef! Reader: My Favourite Chef 💚🦆
Tumblr media
You were a chef, and a really good one too! You often brought home food for dinner or you whipped something up in 5 minutes
You being Duck's S/O for him was great, because if it was a pizza you were having for example, he always got an extra slice
"But that's not fair, me and Red only have four and he has five!" Yellow complained. "Oh well, it must mean Y/N loves me the most out of us." Duck said, before turning to you and thanking you for the food, making you smile
Aswell as being a chef, you also had to do the dishes, but Duck doesn't mind doing them with you. While you two do the dishes, he would compliment the dinner and say much of a great cook you are
You were really happy that Duck liked your food the most. So one time he decided to make you something
When you got home one night, you went to put the food you had taken home into the kitchen to start dinner, but Duck stopped you.
"Let me take those Y/N. And how about you take a break from making dinner." He said, you were confused but happy all the same as Duck said it with a smile
20 minutes later, dinner was ready. Yellow went to sit down in his usual chair but Duck stopped him. "No Yellow, that's Y/N's chair!" He said. "But I always sit here!" Yellow said, sad that he couldn't sit in his favourite place
"Why don't you go sit with Red? I'm having Y/N sit here tonight." Duck told him, you and Yellow sat down in your new seats as Duck served the food.
He had made you guys a steak pie, he gave Red and Yellow the same sized slices, but he gave you the biggest slice.
"This is a thank you for being a great chef Y/N. I love you." Said Duck, before kissing your forehead.
You blushed and smiled "Aw, thank you Duck!" You said, hugging him
You guys ate his pie, surprised it was very tasty
"That's weird, usually your food is rubbish." Red says, surprised the pie isn't burned or undercooked.
"Well, perhaps I've learned a few things from someone.." Duck replies, holding your hand under the table.
There! I hope you like it :]

Dumb DHMIS Headcannons:
Red guy can only sleep if he watches asmr otherwise he is staring at the ceiling doing nothing. (His favorites are the personal attention asmr’s but he is also fond of fast and unpredictable asmr)
Duck only bites everyone as a way to show affection and Yellow guy knows this which is why he didn’t mind the biting
None of them can cook well. They are only capable of college student meals.
Yellow has a stuffed animal collection. Don’t ask where he got them from.
The main three have game nights but they aren’t allowed to play cards anymore because Yellow would get frustrated and eat the cards
Red guy has pots (I am projecting so bad rn)
If any of them have a moment of sensory overload one of the other two will turn off all the lights and they all just sit in silence until everyone is ok
Despite looking out for each other they would be more than willing to rip each others heads off over silly things
They play fight. There are no rules in these play fights though so they end up as just straight up brawls. There is no mercy. Only madness.
There are first aid kits in every room of the house for obvious reasons
Duck is almost always missing one organ or another (he’s very accident prone)
Duck is Lesley’s least favorite. She hates him so much he makes her want to kick him down the stairs
The three of them would sit together and watch those baby sensory videos because they can
Cannon: yellow has that empty goldfish stare
Charged yellow is not only hyper aware of his surroundings and thoughts but he also just feels everything so much more and anything against his skin makes him very uncomfortable
(Not a head cannon but I really wanna mention that I stand for the baby-girlification of Roy. It’s so funny. He is in fact the male wife to Lesley’s girlboss)
This has been silly DHMIS head cannons with Deimos. Have a great day/afternoon/night.

DHMIS Episode 9, and the Nuclear Family
I wrote a video essay script for a class. Tagging @littlemoondarling Here it is:
Visuals, text, [length/minutes]
Loop the DHMIS series opening over and over
Don’t Hug Me, I’m Scared is a tv series based on the viral internet videos of the same name. It is known for its surreal horror, zany humor, and medium blending in a package of a supposed kids show. From puppets to animation to live action. The original YouTube series could be considered a quintessential part secret-kids-media-not-what-it-seems-not-clickbait genre of horror, like Five Nights at Freddy. While I subscribe to the theory -
Game Theory’s DHMIS original series videos thumbnails float across the screen
That the original series was about the corruption of children’s television by executives and advertisers, this new series seems more interested in the characters. It also has more to say about a wide variety of topics. This leads to today’s video: Family.
[ 1.2 min.]
Switch to a frame of the family song from episode 9
Loop to job montage from episode 1
Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared’s world is a broken, nightmarish world where things don’t make sense wrapped up in bold, primary colors. It is through this usage of surrealism, that it points out the hypocrisy of real-life societal systems. Things may not be this way one-to-one, but it sure feels this way. For example, in episode one, Red Guy snags an upper management job and ends up not having to do anything, like picking up trash, because the trash bin does it for him. Or how the Duck doesn’t mesh well with the workplace,
Loop Care Hound song visuals
so he gets sent to the ‘care hound’, fed a song that makes no sense, fed some pills, and when none of that works, gets confronted with this:
Show Care Hound
And gets turned into a happy little office drone. Now get back to work!
[1.2 minutes]
Back to family song
In episode 9, DHMIS applies this level of fantastical lampooning to the concept of the family, or more specifically, the nuclear family. At the start of the episode, our three intrepid heroes try to open a family bag of chips. Then, these two:
Show Todney and Lily
Proceed to interrupt them and claim they can’t have those chips, because they aren’t a family. The protagonists proceed to argue against them, saying that they either fulfill parental roles (even if they can’t agree on who the dad is), that they all live together and share the same lawyer, and Yellow Guy even has a biological dad.
Show Roy
These two don’t like those arguments, and say that a family requires  “a full set”. They proceed to sing a weird little song on what supposedly makes up a family, like having a landline. They song is supposed to spell out FAMILY, but actually it spells out this:
Frame where Duck spells it out
[1.2 minutes]
Go to clips of T&L’s house
Anywoo, the twins take the three to their house to meet their family. Red Guy tries to find his own family, AKA people who are red like him. Duck goes back and sings about he doesn’t want to be in a family (he secretly does). Yellow Guy gets coerced into being the twin’s family mother so they could qualify for a family discount for a tub of chicken. Yellow Guy’s father, Roy shows up to save the day and is implied to eat that broken nuclear family. The gang reunites, and open their family sized pack of chips, only to see that there are only two left.
Intersperse with clips of mentioned plot beats
There are many things to take away about DHMIS episodes, just look at the vibrant theory community surrounding the show. From the way I see it, this episode is about the pitfalls of not only striving for a nuclear family, but also performing as one.
Photos of TV nuclear families
Todney and Lily’s designs call back to an American TV era starting in the 1950s, of shows centered around a traditional nuclear family. Leave it to Beaver, Father Knows Best, The Brady Bunch. Breadwinner husband, stay-at-home wife, 2-3 kids, and a house in the suburbs. According to PBS’s The Rise of American Consumerism, the traditional nuclear family structure had its boom in the 1950s, with the baby boom and post-war economic opportunities. And within that boom came consumerism, AKA the way to do a nuclear family ‘right’. According to the article:
“Consumer spending no longer meant just satisfying an indulgent material desire. In fact, the American consumer was praised as a patriotic citizen in the 1950s, contributing to the ultimate success of the American way of life.”
If you wanted the ‘right’ domestic life, you had to have cars, TV, fridges, toasters, vacuum cleaners, and of course, traditional gender roles.
[3.2 min]
Go back to family song and family rules frames
DHMIS criticizes these arbitrary rules for familihood through this twisted sort of nuclear family and the junk they consider to be quintessential for a family, even disqualifying the actual family members. I mean, it’s the 2020s, how many of you guys have a landline?
Go back to episode climax
The climax, where we learn the family’s nefarious plans, can even be a commentary on how our societal systems reward traditional family structures, while leaving those who aren’t in nuclear households in the dust.
Stock footage of homes
For example, home ownership. According to the Tax Advisor, the number of people cohabiting together is increasing, but because they don’t have an official document stating they’re married, home ownership tax laws become infinitely more complicated. And let’s not get into taxes in general for nontraditional families.
Episode ending footage
You can even take the ending, in which a family sized pack of chips only yields two, to be a commentary on the rising costs of living and supporting a family, even when it is nuclear. According to CNN, the average cost of a middle-income household to raise a child to age 17 has soared to over 300000 dollars thanks to inflation. Given the current economic situation, we’ll probably see more households with nontraditional living structures will probably increase as time goes on.
DHMIS opening footage
So what does DHMIS say about this? Well, it’s quite simple. You shouldn’t need to kidnap people or give your blood to a tree to be a family. Sometimes, all it is, are three people who care for each other, stick together, and share a lawyer.

i cant believe it.. another person who randomly fuses dhmis characters with their other fandoms.. anyway i am so listening i am so listening ears are OPEN
some other easy ones are probs like.. sweetheart and shrignold from episode three (both love based) and the unbread twins and any of the guys from the food episode could work aswell.
bossman hero or jawsum could maybe fuse with tony the clock or maybe the briefcase from episode 1 of the actual tv series?? shrugs, i’m brainstorming here
signing off with a anon tag, i will be back - ☕️ anon
:D I have to rewatch the episodes and the tv show lol I have some really silly ideas for this! I think fusing some of the headspace bosses with already existing DHMIS teachers could be really fun! It could also be fun to maybe come up with ideas for their own lessons/designs a bit different from the normal DHMIS ones too!
(Spoilers for DHMIS below/the teachers and students/songs below and also I like ramble quite a bit sorry! )
I can totally see all those ideas happening! I think the food episode one would be really funny with the unbread twins just always going back to bread or Bossman hero bringing out unemployed hs Kel in the jobs episode
I can also maybe see the unbread twins fitting the episode about family in some ways (although that one episode was creepy lol) I also have thought about maybe Yellow guy (Doi or Manny or David (I'm not sure I remember which name the fandom likes more) ) being inspiration for Angel in some way? Like maybe the "Smart" version of him could look a bit more similar to Neb while the "Dumb" version is more like Angel - Like maybe something happened to him and he's not fully himself/is split like the yellow guy
I also had ideas about if this was a au in general what the story/plot would be.. I thought of maybe they could be trapped in the house and each floor can have a new set of three students ( for random example: like floor one can have kel, aubrey, and sunny and the next has the maverick, vance, and angel or something) and each episode is them learning a new thing from a teacher/hs character
Maybe the plot can be something like hs leaking into other people's dreams or all the characters being trapped by sunny or something and until their own problems and sunny's can be resolved they can't leave the nightmare they are all trapped in. I'm not really sure Overall I have a lot of just scrambled/random ideas about it! :D If anyone has any headcanons/thoughts let me know! I have doodled concept designs for maybe one or two people but besides that I haven't really explored the idea too much sorry! ^^ Hope this wasn't too disorganized

rank dhmis characters from favorite to least favorite?
:D Gladly! Sorry I took awhile my laptop was having a tantrum and didn't want to cooperate
O A T S
Tumblr media
I love him so much he is the most complex and 5 dimensional character in the entire DHMIS series I loved that bit where he saved those orphans from a burning building.
2. Yellow Guy
Tumblr media
Look at him. He is exquisite. He's made of nothing but sunshine and lemon easter peeps and his brain is made of candy-floss.
Fr he is my favourite, for multiple reasons which are very intricate and personal to my being and if I said them all you'd be reading for about five hours.
The main reason is because he's one of my favourite tropes concentrate.
I'm an absolute sucker for the type of charater that tries to make the best out of dark situations. He... tries. Maybe he's the way he is because he's just too stupid to understand, but I choose to beleive that he knows but... pretends he doesn't. At least a little bit.
Also his design is gorgeous. I never liked the colour yellow but now it's my favourite ^-^
Anyways he is litterally my Blorbo
3. Duck
Tumblr media
My favourite lil' bitch. Skrunkly thang. Bastard.
What I like abt Duck is he's so widespread in his character.
Their like everyone's grumpy grandad, little old lady that knits you scarves for the winter, goofy uncle that lives in the woods with a shotgun and a bottle of whisky, sassy wine aunt, dad that reads the paper in the morning and has rthe worst dance moves ever, housewife mum from the fifties, little brother that wants you to look at his planes and moody big sister that wants you to gtfo of her room rn she's talking to Braydon shut up Braydons on the phone all in one.
He genuinely, desprately wants others to like him, to look up to him and see him as a friend. But they can never quite get there.
That's why they love anybody and everybody who loves them back, because not many do.
They're voice smells good also ^-^
4. Red Guy
Tumblr media
He's only this far down bc he looks like a used tampon to me and I can't unsee it, so the other two I hold at a slightly higher pedastal bc of it.
He's the cool guy, laid back and sad, and I like his swag.
But he canonically hunts wales for sport and I don't have much to say about him really, I like Red but he's certainly not my favourite. That doesn'y mean I don't like him though.
5. Roy
Tumblr media
Roy :) Worlds Worst Father. He has a cheese puff for a nose. He has contacted absolutely every sexually transmitted disease onto his person.
6. Colin
Tumblr media
Con da puter ^^^^^^^^^
My favourite teacher methinks. He's much more goofy and I love that abt him. Unlike the others he just seems to want the trio to have fun, if in his odd little twisted way.
He's just a little narccisistic kid really. That nerd that had pokemon cards that thought he was fresh af for having all the shinys.
7. Tony
Tumblr media
I love him sm I made a poem 'bout him:
Tony Tony
Macaroni
Pepperoni Pizzer
He likes traumatizing kids
I hope he never meets ya
8. Sketchbook
Tumblr media
The gg scenecore Manic Pixie Dreamgirl Creepypasta loving brony.
9. Shrignold.
Tumblr media
I hate to love him and I love to hate him >:3
10. Train
Tumblr media
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ train
11. Lamp
Tumblr media
This drunkard really just stumbled in absolutely piss-faced and got the teching job bc nobody could get rid of him.
12. Furry Boy and his crab <3
Tumblr media
13. Steak
Tumblr media
My friend calls him Meaty Gusteau.
14. Spinach can
Tumblr media
I ran out of funny words I just think she's cool.
15. Bread Boy
Tumblr media
Look at this face. This is the cutest lil thang. Look at his drums. He exeeds talent.
16. Fridge
Tumblr media
Fridgy <33333 get away from me <333333333 ur scary <3333333333333
17. Micheal
Tumblr media
Mah boy just needs some love :o'(
18. This Tree
Tumblr media
19. This Stick
Tumblr media
20. Wow look a piechart!
Tumblr media
21. DIGITAL STYLE
Tumblr media
22. DO A DIGITAL DANCING, AIN'T THIS JUST FUN?!?!?!?!
Tumblr media
23. This bargraph I have no emotion for whatsoever.
Tumblr media
Why do you exist.
24. Paula
Tumblr media
25. Mean Steve.
Tumblr media
Mean Steve is a fucking cunt he pissed on my fucking wife-
26. THIS FUCKING THING
Tumblr media
Okay I love all the other characters but tHIS. This HEATHEN. I hate him. He invokes so much hatred in me you have no idea. I want to stomp on him. I want to set him on fire. I want both sides of his pillow to be warm.
Honorable mentions:
Shriggy's Lovecult, Mrs. Grenalds and the other weirdos in Clayhill, twin goblins Scaraboosh and Scaramoochie, The Pirate King, and whoever the fuck Jason is.

Guess what?
So, i was searching for some "Yellow guy" from Dhmis pics. I see him with a similar looking guy who looked cute as hell and familiar. I search for his fandom and learn that his name is Wally Darling. I fucking love him now. An absolute menace while being a curious artist is somehow something i find that i love. Then, guess what else? THE moment I saw Little Miss Sally Starlet, I fucking saw Melody. In those goddamn eyes of hers, I fucking saw the lesbian moon. Oh, I also saw Sun and Moon in her too. But I was more focussed on Wally and Barnaby. I am now happy as hell that I have more motivation to draw. And guess what? Here it is:
Tumblr media
I'm still an Aaf toon artist. But, boy does Bree agree with my thoughts. Amiright, Bree?
Bree: I just bit through your goddamn handkerchief. Bitch I don't give two damns if you found a new passion! You fucking tied me up for this shit!
See ya round folks!

Ok so I watched the YT series of DHMIS and there's really only one way to describe it. It's a literal fever dream.
To start, I like how the series tries a different approach to horror! Most horror is depicted as being mature and serious, but DHMIS appears innocent and seems like it would cater to a younger audience, but gradually collapses and deteriorates over time. It starts as a silly little series about learning things and gets more disturbing in each video. It's a very unique concept, and I like what it accomplishes!
Even though the YT series is over eight years old, it still holds up. The unique styles in each episode are always refreshing. And the character designs are cool! Speaking of characters, the teachers are very unique and distinct from one another. My favorite teacher is probably Computer.
Now, for the main trio: Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Duck. Duck is my personal favorite of the three. I like his personality the most. He seems a bit cynical at times, but it fits him well. And in DHMIS 5, he's the only one of the two--it's just him and Yellow Guy in that video--who starts to notice something is wrong, VERY wrong. And because he's aware of that, he gets killed off. And I like Duck's voice too! Again, it fits him well.
Red Guy is my second favorite, albeit Duck isn't far ahead. Red Guy seems very mellow and monotone, but has a very creative mind hidden behind it. His action of messing with Computer in DHMIS 4 is believable because he kept getting cut off and only wanted a chance to speak. His action of unintentionally harming Yellow Guy in DHMIS 6, while it may be questionable to some, honestly makes sense to me. He's slowly coming to terms with everything, realizing he can make his own show and not rely on others, and he's realizing firsthand how the current situation is affecting him and his friends. Him literally "pulling the plug" is a great way to end things off, even if the series did continue after. I know I had more to say about Red Guy than Duck, but I do like Duck more lol, I promise.
And now, Yellow Guy. Yellow Guy's all right! He's not my personal favorite, but that's okay. I feel bad for him though, since he seems to be the primary victim. I wouldn't say he's a child--I doubt anyone in the show is--but I do think he's the youngest of the main trio, and is therefore the most impressionable.
And now, we have Roy. Oh boy...this guy definitely seems to be the antagonist behind everything. Based on the hints in the TV series (and what I've seen on Film Theory, lol) I'm assuming Roy is the one behind what Red Guy, Yellow Guy, and Duck are going through. Red Guy came to Roy so Roy could support his show, but Roy took complete control. Red Guy "pulling away" from Roy was the best decision he could've made in my opinion.
Anyway, overall, it's a really good YT series! I think the TV show has been uploaded to YT by someone else--at least according to the playlist I used to watch the YT series--so I'll get to those longer videos later on!
I'm really glad I decided to dip my toes into DHMIS. Is it going to become an obsession of mine? Probably not, but we'll see! Even if I don't become utterly obsessed with it, I can still appreciate it for what it achieved, as well as all the hard work the creators put to make the series possible :).
