As much as I love OFMD, Pacific Rim will always be THE fandom for me. It's wild considering how many fandoms I have been in over the years. I met so many talented artists & amazing people through Pacific Rim, some of which I am still friends with 10 years later.
I found out asexuality was a thing through the Pacific Rim fandom. Up until then, I thought there was something wrong with me. I went to 2 Pacific Rim Meet-ups at Dragon Con while cosplaying as Newt. I went to Shatterdome Atlanta in 2015, the smallest con I had been to.
I saw Pacific Rim in the theater the weekend it came out, which was good because I think it was gone a week later. Went with my brother and we were two out of 6 people there. Watching it on the big screen with the theaters speakers is the best way to see it.
I bought all the Kaiju figures and some of the Jaegers which were officially licensed. I spent a fortune at Shatterdome Atlanta buying fan made things. I commissioned dozens of people for art for my fics and other peoples' fics. I wrote 240+ fics.
Met Burn Gorman (Hermann) at Dragon Con and he told me a backstory of how Hermann hurt his leg (Hermann's wife caught him in bed with Newt and clobbered him). Got 2 Pacific Rim tattoos, one just before Dragon Con.
I have art I commissioned printed out and hung on my walls along with art prints I have purchased. I have more prints, plus the art book, the graphic novel and that horrible novelization.
I have an actual prop from the movie, which I won in a website contest. It's a jar of 'Kaiju guts' from Hannibal Chau's lair. My friend had it on their table at Shatterdome Atlanta.
In conclusion, it's a fucking amazing movie. Drift Compatibility is one of the most phenomenal concepts I have ever heard of. Fantastic practical effects, interesting characters, nerdy scientists who are so in love, and Idris Elba being hot as hell. Giant robots vs space Kaiju.
I love everyone in this Shatterdome.
