Ultimate tell of most USAmerican movies/shows being produced in California is when the foley artists put loon calls in scenes that are, in ascending order of hilarity, (1) during the dead of winter when all the lakes are frozen over, (2) way too far south, or (3) not remotely close to water of any kind
#foley artists holding up a butterfly that makes loon noises: is this the sound of wilderness?#(i mean yes it is but only if you're on an unfrozen lake in a boreal forest sort of environment)#this is specifically about tlovm which had them both in whitestone (lol) and near the rq's temple (more forgiveable but not in winter)#however i've heard many far more egregious cases of loon calls in tropical rainforests??? loon calls in DESERTS???#it's SUCH a distinctive sound and it makes me chuckle every time#they are legit everywhere in film but apparently most viewers aren't familiar enough with them to notice#often i get the impression they're meant to be mistaken for owls? which is only possible if the viewer has never heard a loon OR an owl#like i am not by any means a bird expert but the sound is just! that! unmistakable!!!#my posts
