so, I know TONS of artists do these documentaries or whatever and some of them include intimate and personal moments of their lives. I'm just saying! if rockstar!joel had a little documentary made, I feel like there'd be moments/personal and intimate clips of him and actress!reader together, ones that play out while he talks about her during an interview clip or something and it's just SO 🥹🥹🥹 like he'd be so precious and sweet. i love them so much!!!
Okay wait I know I’ve doing little drabbles recently but this is deserving of its own fic 😭😭 thank you for the beautiful idea!
Pairing: rockstar!joel miller x actress!reader
Author's note: wait i really love how this turned out
Summary: The Millers: A Year in the Life [2.3k]
Warnings: discussions of the foster care system, marital bliss, emotions, I think that’s it?? This is literally just fluff
Tumblr media
You didn't know what to expect when you agreed to have a documentary crew follow you around while Joel was working on his next album. You worried it would burst the little private bubble you've spent your career trying to maintain or bring unwanted attention to your family. It didn't do either of those things. If anything, it helped show the world how strong you are as a family unit. You just didn't realize how much they caught until you and your family attended the premiere to watch it in full for the first time.
The documentary opens with clips of Joel touring, playing loud music, and showing off his rockstar attitude for the cameras but quickly cuts to a quiet, sunny morning in your house. Joel is up and making coffee in the deserted kitchen, his hair a mess and his eyes bleary as he looks at the camera. "'S this the kinda excitin' thing you guys wanted?" He asks in a gravelly voice before laughing at his own joke. The camera follows him up the stairs and to the primary bedroom, where you're still sleeping. He carefully puts the coffee on your bedside table and sits on the edge of the bed, smoothing your hair out of your face. You groan and curl into his body subconsciously, and he smiles. "We're gonna have to leave soon, but I made you some coffee, and I'm gonna get the kids up so you can rest a little longer, alright?" He asks, and you nod, peeking your head up from under the covers to see the cameras. You have to laugh when you spot your own messy hair on screen.
"Oh, hello." You say to the cameraman before turning back to Joel. "Give me five minutes."
"You can have ten."
"I love you." You say as he leans down to kiss you.
"Love you, too." He says, lingering for a moment or two before getting up and padding down the hallway. They follow him until he asks them to wait in the hallway, not wanting to freak out the kids, and they oblige. His microphone picks up his gentle voice, rousing your teenagers awake.
"Honey, it's time to get up. We've gotta get ready for Sam's game." He says, and a grumpy shuffling can be heard.
"Can we get donuts?" Violet asks, barely audible, and Joel chuckles.
"Yeah, baby, we can get donuts. I just need ya to get movin' for me, alright?"
"Okay." She says. He repeats the process twice before it cuts to Joel wearing a baseball hat at the game, cheering Sam on despite the obvious fatigue in his eyes. There are little clips here and there of the game itself, but nothing super significant. It cuts again to Joel in his studio, getting mic'ed up for a solo interview, and there's a big smile on his face.
"D'you guys already talk to my wife?" He asks, and everyone in the room laughs. "I'm sure she had a lot to say." The way he says it isn't malicious. It's fond. Like he knows you so well, he doesn't even need confirmation that you talked a lot about him. Then, you're on screen in your office with all your awards and pictures of the kids on display behind you, half-directing the production team on the best way to use the space. You don't introduce yourself until everything is settled.
"I'm an actress, director, producer, mother, and Joel's wife." You say, smiling.
"What can you tell us about your relationship with Joel?" A producer asks, and you laugh.
"God, how much time do you have?" You ask. It cuts again to Joel, who laughs at the same question and starts spinning his wedding band on his finger.
"Should I start at the beginning'?" He asks.
"If that's what you want." As soon as the words are spoken, early pictures and videos of you and Joel start playing over the interview answers.
"We met through mutual friends a few years after I'd moved to LA, but we didn't start actually dating until about two months after we met." You say. It's not entirely wrong.
"I remember thinkin' she was beautiful, intelligent, and caring. I just wanted to be with her all the time." He says.
"We were both so busy and in the public eye that I almost didn't think it was gonna work out because we were always traveling for work or getting stuck in the studio or on set. The first test was when he went home to Texas with his daughters for about a month, and we had to find ways to keep in touch," you remember. "That's also the first time I realized I really, really liked him."
"Just like?" The producer asks, and you laugh.
"It wasn't love yet. Joel will be the first to tell you he fell first."
"Oh, yeah, it was stupid how in love with her I was," Joel's interview cuts in, and you each laugh at the editing. "I was ready to marry her after our third date."
"He said that?" You ask the producer and laugh when she nods.
"When did you know you wanted to marry him?"
"Oh, after I met Sarah and Ellie and saw how good of a dad he was. I mean, are you kidding? What’s not to love about that?"
"I don't wanna say too much 'cause it's not only my story to tell, but we were really young when we had Sarah," Joel's voice jumps back in with pictures of him with a baby Sarah. "I didn't know what our lives were gonna look like with just the two of us, and I was so scared that I was gonna fuck her up. She was so perfect and little and I... I wasn't. I was pretty much on my own until my brother got back from Desert Storm, and he moved in with us. Then, it felt like we were raisin' her and each other," he says. "Ellie was, somehow, a bigger surprise than Sarah was. She was in Sarah's school and havin' a hard time. She'd just gotten kicked out of another foster home, and I thought, 'Why doesn't she come stay with us?' I think I thought it would be a temporary thing, but she became a part of my heart. We always say she's not our daughter by blood but by soul, and then there was no way I could live without both my girls. So, we filled out the adoption paperwork and she became ours when she was twelve and Sarah was fourteen. So yeah, I was a single dad for a long time before I met my wife."
"I want to make it abundantly clear I wasn't scared of the girls. I was scared of ruining their lives by dating their father." You say, laughing at how crazy it sounds now. "I hadn't ever dated someone with kids before, so it was all new! But the girls were so kind and so wonderful. And I don't even know when it happened, but suddenly, I wasn't calling them Joel's girls. I was calling them the girls or our girls. The love was so organic it didn't phase anyone when I started claiming them, too. Granted, that wasn't until we'd been together for quite a while, but still."
"We met her… I wanna say it was a few months after they'd started dating," Sarah says, suddenly appearing on the screen. "She was really cool, and I remember telling Dad how much I liked her. She would come over and help with homework, and we'd do movie nights with all four of us. It felt like we were a family long before they got married."
"Oh, yeah. I mean, it's hard not to like her, y'know?" Ellie says. "Coming from foster care and everything, I remember being hesitant when she came into our lives just because I've had mother figures come in and out for a majority of my life, so I was kinda bracing myself for that. But she didn't do that. She stayed and made our lives better for it."
"She was never just some person our dad was dating or a stepmom. She was always Mom to us." Sarah says.
"Yeah, I don't think I've ever called her my stepmom," Ellie laughs. "There was a period of time before they got married where we called her by her name, and then by the time Sam came around, we were both calling her Mom because that's what she is. She's our mom."
"When we were gettin' married, we had friends in the industry tell us, 'y'know marriage is hard, but being married while all this is goin' on is so much harder.' And that was really scary. I'd been through a divorce before, and I didn't want to put either of us through that. Leading up to the wedding, we talked about everything. What we wanted, what we expected from each other, what we wanted our lives to look like, and she was so fuckin' patient with me. She always is. And the day of, y'know, five million things are going through my head, and I'm freakin' out, but when I saw her," Joel gets choked up and has to take a deep breath before he can continue. "That all went away. All I cared about was her."
"We got married in his parent's backyard with like thirty other people there. We didn't want a big wedding and all the drama that came with that. Literally, nobody knew about our wedding except the people who were invited and the photographer, and it was perfect. I would do it all over again if he asked me to."
"That's it? That's all the detail we get?" The producer asks playfully, obviously on the edge of her seat for more, and you nod.
"Yep." You smile. You go on to talk about the births of Sam and the twins and how that changed everything in your lives before the documentary returns to your day-to-day.
The documentary catches a bunch of special moments you would've never caught otherwise like Joel calling you down to the studio to play you a riff because he's so vulnerable when he first writes a song. You're the only one he trusts with that vulnerability. "What d'you think?" He asks, looking up from the frets with worry lining his face. "I think it's great. What were you thinking for drums?" You ask because you know he's already thinking ten steps ahead. He shifts through his papers to find what he wrote down. When he finishes explaining it to you, you step closer to him, rub away the line between his eyebrows, and kiss the crown of his head, his hands coming around to hold your waist. "Sounds like you've got a hit on your hands."
Or the kids all joining in on a jam sesh when they're all home at the same time. With Sam's baseball schedule and the older girls' families, friends, and lives, it's hard to find time for all seven of you to get together. But by some miracle, all the Millers find a way home at the same time, and the cameras catch them all in the studio, playing song after song just because they can. They play for so long that the camera crew had to ask you how long you thought they'd go. "Oh, they'll go all night if you let them." You say with a huge smile on your face. Your family was all under one roof. How could you not be ecstatic?
Or when Joel visited you on set with flowers when you were having a rough day. He found you sitting in your trailer with your head in your hands, tears rolling down your cheeks, and he quickly asked the camera crew to stay outside. His mic stayed on and picked up everything. "I don't think I can do this." You cried into his shirt. You were still relatively new to directing and had hit a wall. It felt like things kept stacking up against you, and you were so tired.
"What's goin' on? Talk to me." He said, and you quickly dove into exactly what was wrong, fighting tears the whole time. When you finished crying, he kissed all over your face and whispered affirmations to you. "You can do this, okay? These are just little hiccups. If anyone can handle them, it's you. Just take a second to breathe and tell me what I can do to help you."
"I don't know. I don't know." Your voice got thick with emotion again, and he shushed you gently.
"Why don't we get you somethin' to eat, and then we can talk bout it? How's that sound?" He asked, and you hummed.
The screen fades to black during your crying session in the trailer, and suddenly, you hear Ryan's shaky, loving voice announcing your name at the Oscars for Best Director. It cuts to you sitting there, stunned into silence, as everyone around you claps. Seeing those two clips so close together made you tear up and reach for Joel's hand in the theatre. The rest of the documentary goes through his recording process until the Grammy's, where he won three for the album being documented. In the last few minutes, it returns to Joel in his studio, picking at his nails.
"It is hard. I'm not gonna sit up here and pretend like just cause I've been in it for a while, I'm better at managing it all. I'm not. There are a million things I'm sure I'm doin' wrong, or I've fucked up. But my family, they love me despite everything," he says. "Every day, I wake up, and I choose them. Without them…" he trails off, tears welling in his eyes. "Without them, I'm nothin'. Most of the time, I don't feel half good enough to deserve them, but I'm tryin' to be better. I think that's all I can do. It's all I wanna do." With those wise words from the man you love so much, the credits start rolling on The Millers: A Year in the Life, and everyone in the theatre stands and claps. You turn to Joel and kiss him, with tears falling from both of you and smile against him.
When you agreed to have a documentary crew follow you around, you were sure what to expect. You didn't think your day-to-day lives were anything spectacular, but seeing them edited together like that, you see how wrong you were. You forgot how special it is to share your life with him and find sweet moments between all the chaos. For as private as you try to be, you're glad that, in a hundred years or so— when you and Joel are long gone, and your kids are old— people will be able to watch this and see how much you loved each other. How you chose each other time and time again. How you celebrated each other's wins and mourned the losses together.
A wise man once told you that the best decision he'd ever made was marrying his wife one hot Texas day many moons ago. Now, more than twenty years later, you'd be inclined to agree with him. It's hard and not always the best of times, but if you could go back in time, you wouldn't change a single thing. You'd sign the contract, go on the fake dates, fall in love, move to Ireland, and rekindle your relationship all over again if it meant you'd have a sliver of the happiness you have now.
Best decision ever.

The ironic part is that Mine Harry is a literally Mafia Boss and we've never really dived into the concept of him spoiling Mama that much but discuss OftM Harry just doing crazy s- like buying private islands, cars, etc, I dunno this is just funny to me
BAHAHA okay that's true!! Mine Harry would also 10000% spoil the shit out of her, and absolutely does!! But I also think he knows her well enough to know how to spoil her, you know??
Like he's not gonna do private islands and expensive cars cause that's not her thing! But he does splurge on pretty dresses just so he can watch her twirl, or some of her favorite vinyls so they can have a dance party, or a bunch of her favorite books and board games to keep her entertained when they're in hiding!! I feel like it's little stuff that's mostly just to make her smile 😭💞
Or paying for her family and friends to fly out, or taking her on a helicopter ride through the mountains?? Just super cute stuff, and half the time, she doesn't even realize how much money he's actually spending because he never mentions it!!
ew I miss them HAHAHHA

Productivity users want reliable software that they can own and use without being online 100% of the time. That’s just as pathetic as Adobe rentalware and MS’s curent desperate Office 365 stupidity. Apple is just using every trick in the book to get its Mac users to subscribe to iCloud server space. If MDN thinks that OFTM is SNAFU, then it should open its eyes to see what a clusterfuck that iWork is these days. I fully expect to be declared a “troll” by some inconsiderate fanboy punk, but that’s tough. But as it is, several mail applications (Outlook, Thunderbird, etc) seem to be more responsive and more intuitive than Apple’s current version of Mail. If Apple did a better job with Mail, then perhaps Apple users could ignore Outlook. Achieve more and enhance your documents with access to a growing catalog of premium templates for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. I dislike Powerpoint but the latest version of Keynote does not impress. Whether you need to show off your school project, business plan, or family vacation photos, PowerPoint is your go-to app for presentations. I’ve used Office For The Mac since the late ’90s and to this day Excel remains the best spreadsheet program for the Mac, and Word is the most fully featured and intuitive word processing program for the Mac. “According to discussions among the Apple community, upon updating your Microsoft software, ‘the main email window is missing and emails cannot be sent/received.'” “There have been reports of a bug in it that can ‘render the Outlook email software useless,'” Erwin blogs.

“However, before updating, Mac users should beware, it comes to you as a double-edged sword: while Office for Mac 2011 14.5.0 fixes security bugs, it also opens an Outlook bug.” “The Office for Mac 2011 update applies to the following Microsoft software: Office for Mac 2011, Microsoft Excel for Mac 2011, Microsoft PowerPoint for Mac 2011, and Microsoft Word for Mac 2011,” Erwin blogs. WORKAROUND Replace Font dialog only shows fonts within the PowerPoint presentation. INVESTIGATING Reuse Slides option in PowerPoint is missing after updating Office. “The software update is available for Mac OS X version 10.5.8 or a later version of Mac OS X.” Issues affecting PowerPoint features and add-ins. “Microsoft has released Office for Mac 2011 version 14.5.0 with patches for a remote code execution vulnerability that exists in Microsoft Office software when it fails to properly handle objects in memory,” Derek Erwin blogs for Intego.

RNGesus declares that you must answer: Mitch (2, 6, 7, 11, 13), Ebony (6, 13, 14, 18, 20) and Nico (1, 8, 12, 15, 18) with that thing you blogged or w/e.
Mitch
2: their smile
His smiles are usually just little smirks, not some big, huge grin or whatever. Usually they’re kinda awkward too, almost like he hasn’t smiled in five years or whatever. They can come in two flavors; either it’s a shitty, sarcastic one because he’s fucking around with Ian or someone else he’s comfortable with and you can just see the sass written all over his face, and the smirk isn’t much but it’s just enough to know someone (ian) just fucking died of sarcasm overload. the alternative is just a genuine smile, there’s probably some adorable happiness shining in his eyes, and it’s maybe a little embarrassed and the smile’s not big or anything, but you can still just feel the joy of whatever is making the boy happy emanating from him anyways
6: how they deal with grief
hahahahahahahahahahahahAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA….
he’s very avoidant when dealing with grief. I mean, he has a very avoidant personality in genreal, but grief amplifies that a hundred times over. he just wants to be alone, he’ll shut people out, just lay in bed or curl up in a corner and hide away from the world and everything. And he will do this until people start forcing themselves back into his life pretty much. He also has this habit of just…. talking with those he’s lost. He isn’t a religious guy, doesn’t know for sure if he really think it’s LOGICAL to believe in an after life, but when he’s alone, he just finds it weirdly comforting to just quietly play piano and talk as if people he’s lost can hear him and are listening intently from some clouds in the sky or whatever. feels like they’re still there…
7: how they like to dress
Comfort and practicality> fashion any day. 95% of his small wardrobe is just hooded sweatshirts that are probably a size or two too big on him and some jeans, though there’s a few blank t-shirts around to wear underneath. Baggy clothes are just comfy, and also people have a harder time noticing how thin you are if they can’t see how thin you are because baggy sweatshirts are in the way
11: their family life
He’s not really close with any of his blood family anymore. Alex is easily his family member he’s closest too, and even then, Mitch does have some hard feelings against her, feeling as though she tries far too hard to sort of replace their parents in his eyes instead of just trying to stay as his sister. Doesn’t help that their very… opposite personalities, and  the combination Mitch’s stubbornness not to go and Alex trying all she can to get Mitch to have some form of social life besides Ian do cause a lot of fights. Or that she tends to be very busy out and about. At the end of the day though, they’re basically all the family they have, and they would trust each other with their life, they’d tell each other a lot of things, and they do all they can to try to help each other out since despite a bit of bitterness, Mitch does understand how hard it was for Alex to basically have the role of being the provider of the family thrust upon her in her mid-teen years. After OFTM stuff, I think Mitch would really grow to appreciate her a lot more though, and they’d definitely get a lot closer when they could finally reunite, they’d definitely get along a lot better.
Besides her, there’s his grandparents, who are technically his legal guardians, and… well, they’re very distant from Alex and Mitch, and usually resting alone since they’re in piss poor health anyways. Mitch doesn’t really go out of his way to talk with ‘em, and the news of their death in OFTM universe doesn’t really even surprise or sadden him in the slightest. He also has a lot of other relatives, but he kinda lost contact with ‘em after his parents died. After all, it was too difficult for a little ten year old to stay in contact with the half that lived in an entirely different country, and the other half just never put forth much effort, so….
Before their death, Mitch was very close with his parents, his dad especially. They were always very supportive of their kids interests very kind, amazing chefs…. They’d always try to take the kids on cute little “adventures” (i.e. to the beach, out on hikes, scavenger hunts, ect.) and went out of there way to keep it interesting for both their kids. Really isn’t surprising that their death hit him so hard.
13: their embarrassing memory from years ago
So Mitch grew up in a house where they spoke both english and japanese, though there was some favoring towards whatever country they lived at during the time. By the time they moved out of Japan and to the States, well… alex could adjust well! She was pretty good at both languages, and was a lot stronger at keeping the two seperated than poor Mitch was. She still had somewhat of an accent, and sometimes had moments of “I remember the japanese word for a thing but not the english word” but for the most part, she was prepared for the move. poor mitch though. he was no so lucky. he mixed up the two so, so much since he was just five at the time, and it took him years to be able to get a lot of english sounds right, and to be able to speak english without an accent…. the embarrassment from that stuff honestly contributed a lot to why he has such a shy personality tbh
The most embarrassing moments of that came from how he couldn’t even pronounce his own full name properly for a long time or his own older sister’s name (it’s why he goes by Mitch instead of Mitchel, and also why he got so incredibly used to calling Alex Onee-san instead of switching to a first name basis even when they moved to the states.
Ebony
6: how they deal with grief
ebony is a very emotional individual, kinda like her great grandad ian. there’s a lot of ugly crying, desperately wanting to be around people for comfort and probably being about fifty times clingier to people for a while because she just really wants the company, her anxiety probably shoots through the fucking roof more than it already does, and she’s probably venting people’s ears off because talking and venting so much is just how she gets all her emotions out properly. frankly i think someone close to her would just hire a goddamn therapist for her to talk to for a while until she starts getting better.
13: their embarrassing memory from years ago
her whole fucking life is an embarrassing memory
anyways once upon a time, when she was still in ballet classes and hadn’t moved on to do her own independent dance stuff instead, Mama Olive ended up coming a bit early to pick her girl up! Class wasn’t over, so Olive just watched everyone as they were practicing for a cute dance recital thing, and uh...
olive got a little too enthusiastic about how great her daughter was doing. also a little too angry when the instructor “rudely criticizing Ebony’s dance” (or in non olive talk, noticing Ebony was doing a step wrong and trying to give her some tips how to fix it, because i was a very tough set of steps)
poor ebony deserved a better mom than olive. anyways after that argument that embarrassed ebony to tears, dan became the person to take ebony to and from dance lessons because olive got banned
14: how they react to burning their tongue on food
Ebony’s surprisingly good with hot and spicy foods most of the time, actually (and I 100% blame this on Matt. Matthew definitely has snuck like half a bottle of hotsauce into some of her cooking several times in the past, and other shitty things like that
So I think if something actually is too hot for her, she’ll just quickly reach for a quick drink of cold water, and she’ll probably be mostly fine after that
18: how they sleep
She usually sleeps on her side or her back, as those are the most comfortable positions for hugging plush in your sleep. And Ebony will always be cuddling plush in her sleep. Or a Ham, post SE. She has more trouble sleeping alone, though she can sleep plushiless or Hamless if she has to. She gets cold easily, but doesn’t really mind warmth, so she probably has several blankets every night, even in summer.
...
i’m trying to figure out how cuddling stuff adjusts whenever she ends up getting married to sven though because on one hand, cuddling time alone with him would be wonderful, but would she give up cuddling with Ham at night for it???? idk.... maybe she just goes back and forth. on some nights, she cuddles and sleeps with sven, and others, ham gets hugged to sleep.
20: their reaction to a mystery love letter
Gut reaction would be to be flustered, shocked, honestly kind of flattered...
five minutes later
“wait who is trying to break up Sven and I for ‘my own good’ this time....?”
Nico
1: their voice
what voice lmao
...ok, technically he CAN talk, it’s just so physically painful that it’s not worth while. And when he does, it comes out as an incredibly hoarse, quiet whimper-like noise, so much so that it can barely be understood. Beforehe died, his voice was... kinda average? It wasn’t particularly high or low, so ‘average.’ There’s a nice energy to his tone though, it’s pretty chipper most of the time, very clear and understandable, and just pleasant to hear.
8: what they like to eat
Anything that has a very strong taste to it. If it’s kinda bland, and the flavor isn’t incredibly strong, he won’t be able to taste it at all. He doesn’t actually really care if the taste is GOOD or not, he just enjoys when he can actually taste something at all, and actually properly use one of his senses again. Makes him feel a little alive again. That being said, he doesn’t really eat most of the time anyways. His body is sustained on magic, not food, and getting all his facial bandages off is a hassle, and there’s the risk of someone popping in to see him while he’s eating and he’d prefer people didn’t see his scarred up, somewhat rotten face, so food is a rare treat for the guy.
He was really fond of salty things back before his death though. He was always craving just a big bag of pretzels, and could eat ‘em up on his own and never dare to let anyone else touch them.
12: their romantic life
hehehehehe.... not great....
He’s always considered it a success! He has a lovely girlfriend who is incredibly talented and pretty and kind, and loves him even in his zombie state! He loves how she was always trying her best to make the relationship work even with his... situation, and trying her hardest to keep him around.
So when he found out she had planned his ‘death’ to use him for her show, well..... He confronted her about it, and they’re kinda separated for the time being, but Nico still has kind of complex and mixed feelings about everything. He still has feelings for Hazel, he can’t convince himself that she really meant any harm (”she just figured I’d be around and alive longer if I’m undead, so it’s.. a weird way of her caring about me, right...?”) but he’s also still obviously very hurt that she planned his death and left him in this inhuman state where he can’t FEEL, he can’t SPEAK, he’s lost all his good looks, he can’t enjoy food, people have feared him as a monster...
But... she meant well, so is it right to really be that mad at her...?
he’s currently in what one could call the biggest act of defiance he’s done of his own will without someone pushing him to do it. He left the circus on his own to try to figure out his feelings and everything, and frankly, considering he’s not the only employee there hired via some... immoral magic shenanigans, he’s trying to figure out something to do about the whole thing. however, he still does have some feelings for her regardless. he can’t really let go when it was thanks to traveling with her that he could get out of the stupid mercenary gig way back when, so...
15: how they react to a brainfreeze
Nico doesn’t usually feel things good but he’s susceptible to cold and warmth at least. so he probably flops on the ground, clutching his head and cursing WHY IS THE WORST KIND OF PAIN THE ONLY ONE I STILL FEEL EASILY ;W;’
18: how they sleep
Usually on his side, though he tosses around and moves a lot because he has a hard time getting comfortable. Usually only sleeps with one blanket, and he doesn’t like sleeping with pillows for some reason like a fucking weirdo

Pairing: rockstar!joel miller x actress!reader
Summary: The BuzzFeed Puppy Interview [1.6k]
Warnings: mentions of a pet passing away, grief, puppy shenanigans, a happy ending (and surprises)
Tumblr media
"The last time we were here, I was pregnant." You say as you settle onto the ground next to Joel.
"I know, it's been a minute! How old are the twins now?" The same producer from the last time you and Joel did a Buzzfeed promo video asks.
"They'll be six in July," Joel says, beaming with pride, and you nod.
"Is this your way of announcing something?"
"No!" You and Joel say at the same time, making everyone laugh. Once things settle, you introduce each other to the camera and wait excitedly for the puppies to come clamoring onto the sound stage. It only took six years, but you're finally getting to do the puppy interview with Joel, and you both immediately melt when the little baby pit bulls pad their way over to you.
You specifically asked if you could work with pit bull puppies to raise awareness about the misconceptions surrounding the breed in memory of Daisy. It's been six months since she passed after fifteen years of belly rubs, snuggles, and love, and you've felt the ache since then. Seeing the tiny versions of her makes you feel a little better.
"C'mere, honey," Joel coaxes as he half-lays on the floor and scoops up the tan one. "Oh, look at that little face." He murmurs as he kisses her head and tucks her safely in his arms. Meanwhile, you're working on getting a shy black one to toddle over to you with little whistles and kissing sounds.
"It's okay. You don't have to be scared." You say, but he doesn't budge. The other two puppies, one grey and one brown, cuddle between you and Joel, and you take turns leaning down to kiss their heads and petting them.
"What was the process like working together on this film?" The producer asks.
"It was really fun! I always like having him work with me on things, and he just has an ear for scores and music in a way that I don't, so I think bringing him on for that was a perfect choice." You say, your eyes flitting to the black puppy who's still hesitant at your presence.
"Havin' her direct me and make notes was different than how we've worked together before because this is the first time she's been a director and producer, but it was a really cool environment. Our kids got to come to set with us and raid the craft station, so it was a good time." He's always been guilty of talking with his hands, but the puppy whining at a lack of attention really highlights it and makes you laugh. "Oh, I'm sorry. Are you feelin' neglected?"
"Joel, do you have any favorite movies or shows of hers?"
"What a great question!" He exclaims, and you laugh. "I love everythin' she's been in and done, but that's 'cause I love her so much, and seein' someone you love do somethin' they love is just… the most special thing in the world. But I do have a special place in my heart for Self Made Men 'cause that's the first thing I ever saw of hers, and she's just so pretty in it. I mean, c'mon." He says, and you pretend to roll your eyes. The grey puppy climbs into Joel's lap and begins nipping at his arm to get him to put the tan one down and hold him instead. "Oh, don't be like that. I've got two hands for a reason."
"What's your favorite album or piece of music Joel's made?" The producer asks you as Joel holds the puppies, alternating between head scratches and lightly pushing at their chests to get them to play.
"I still really love the album he was making when we first started dating."
"Glass House?" Joel asks, and you nod.
"Sometimes, I'll put it on in the background while reading or doing something. It's just so nice, and it's so beautiful, both lyrically and sonically."
"Look at you with your vocabulary." He teases.
"I married a musician a couple years ago. I hope I'd sound like I know what I'm talking about." You say as the two puppies in his lap finally have enough of him, riling them up, and they run off to play. The brown one joins them quickly, but the black one still lingers around you. You open your hands to him to let him smell, but he doesn't actually sit with you until his siblings come skating by and spook him. "Oh, sweet angel! Are you just so shy and little?" You coo as he snuggles into your chest, hiding his face like he got caught. You pet him gently and adjust so he can rest comfortably in your arms, and something in your chest settles for the first time in months. There's a fleeting thought, but you dismiss it quickly as the producer asks another question.
"What is your love language?" She asks, and you laugh.
"Joel's is acts of service and touch."
"Hers is… I wanna say," Joel squints at you as he thinks. "Words of affirmation, and I'm gonna say touch."
"You got it." You say, holding out your hand for a high-five. The trio of puppies start playing a little rough, and you and Joel immediately go into parent mode. He disengages the fight by picking them up while you protect the whimpering puppy in your arms.
"Woah, woah, woah!" Joel says. "I understand that you wanna play and you're explorin' different things, but that's not how we treat other puppies, okay?"
"I can't believe you're gentle-parenting a pair of puppies." You laugh, and he shrugs as he puts them back down before reaching out and scratching the ear of the puppy you're holding. He makes a content noise and leans into Joel's hand. You smile as you look down at him.
"It worked on the five animals we raised."
"What's one thing you could give a lengthy PowerPoint presentation on with no prep?" The producer asks.
"New York City history," you answer quickly. "I lived there for several years when I was in my late teens/early twenties, and it's kind of mandatory if you're gonna live there to know different bits of history. I just found it so fascinating."
"I think mine would probably have to do with guitars or somethin'. Especially since I started makin' them." Joel says.
"Oh, yeah. He made one for Ellie's birthday recently. It was just gorgeous, and it sounded perfect, too. You could probably teach classes at this point."
"I don't know bout all that, but I do know a lot bout it." He says.
"Tell us a little bit about the Big Dreamer Foundation." The producer says. You and Joel each say a little bit about the foundation you created together to support arts programs and give kids scholarships to go to the programs of their dreams. Since you've started it, you've been able to send hundreds of kids to school and provide them with resources they wouldn't have had access to before. You even hint a little bit at the community center you're planning on building in your hometowns to support the arts there and help bring the community together. Starting the Big Dreamer Foundation with him is by far the most rewarding of everything you've ever done.
As the interview goes on, you continue cuddling the black puppy as the others play and eventually fall asleep on Joel. When you come to the end and you're promoting the movie, you look at the people who brought the puppies from the shelter. "Are these guys available for adoption?" You ask, and someone nods. You look back at Joel and see him already looking at you and the puppy.
"Are you thinkin' what I'm thinkin'?"
"I don't know. What are you thinking?"
"I'm thinkin' there's no way we're goin' home without a puppy." He says, and you take a deep breath. You've been hesitant to bring another dog home since Daisy died. You weren't ready to love something else as much as you loved her. You also weren't ready to admit that she was really gone. But the kids miss having a dog around, and, honestly, you miss it, too. You didn't know you could even consider adopting another pet until the tiny black puppy captured your heart.
"What's this one's name?" You ask the people from the shelter.
"That one's Bug."
"Bug." You echo in a baby voice. You look between Bug and Joel and feel tears spring in your eyes for some reason. "Baby, I think we need to take Bug home." You say. He makes a sympathetic noise and pulls you and Bug into his side.
"Then, Bug needs to come home with us." He murmurs.
By the time the video goes live, Bug has come out of his shell and adjusted to the chaos of the Miller home. It turns out he loves music and will often sing along if Joel hits the right note on his guitar. He also loves cuddling up in bed when you're doing story time with the kids and is exceptionally patient when they try to put costumes on him to act in their plays. He's perfect. BuzzFeed includes pictures and videos of Bug with your family and a sweet memorial to Daisy at the end of the video.
You'll miss Daisy for the rest of your life but you know she would want you to love again. Her mysterious entrance into your life still baffles you, but you like to think she sent Bug your way in an equally baffling experience. You like to think she's still watching over you and the kids in her own way. You like to think she's just as happy as you are when Bug settles into your family like he was always meant to be there.

Love you writing - so I have a request please! Joel taking the twins and Sammy trick or treating. Him just trying to wrangle 3 wild nuggets. I image the girls in this scenario being like 4/5. I also love the ideas of the girls being little weirdos and just picking odd costumes like the Nun or Michael Myers. They have of course never watched either movie.
I love this!! I changed it around a little but this idea made me giggle. Thank you for the request and the sweet words 🥺❤️
I’m Just Ken

“What is my daughter wearing?” You ask unceremoniously as you walk into the bedroom. Joel is sitting on the edge of the bed, pulling his boots off, and he chuckles at your question like he’s been waiting for it all day.
“Your daughter picked out her own costume at Spirit Halloween and wouldn’t take no for an answer.” He says. The insinuation that it was your stubbornness that passed to Violet and put you in this situation is not missed.
“So you let our four-year-old buy a Michael Myers mask and jumpsuit as her Halloween costume?”
“You didn’t even see what the other one picked out.” He laughs, and you scrub a hand down your face.
“Joel…” you sigh as you walk back down the hallway to ask Sophia to show you what she picked out for Halloween. Sure enough, she comes up with a black robe and a Scream mask.
“Me and Vi are gonna match!” She exclaims from behind the white, permanently screaming mask. You take a deep breath before crouching down to her level.
“Baby, do you know what this mask is from?”
“No, but look!” She smiles as she pushes a button, and fake blood spills down from the top. “Cool, right?” Her excitement is heartbreaking, and you don’t dare to tell her no.
“Very cool, honey,” you say. “There weren’t any other costumes you saw there that you liked?”
“No, I like this one the best, and I get to match with sissy.” Almost as if on cue, a tiny Michael Meyers walks into the room, giggling like there’s no tomorrow. Normally, this would be any parent’s nightmare, but you can’t stop yourself from giggling right alongside them.
“Alright, c’mere, you little freaks.” You say as you wrap the girls up in a big hug, smooshing their masks in the process. The girls snuggle into you before chasing each other around in the weirdest, cutest horror movie crossover you’ve ever seen.
“Mommy, you didn’t even say anything about my costume!” A voice whines from the doorway, and you look up to see Sam in a Mario costume, mustache and all. The snort leaves you before you can stop it. It’s insane how much he looks like Joel with the Mario stache on. Thank God Sammy isn’t fazed by your laughter and runs over to hug you, too.
“You look so handsome, bud!” You kiss his cheek. “You didn’t want a scary costume like your sisters?”
“No, those are way too scary for me!” He shakes his head like he’s proving his point, and you laugh again.
“Did Daddy get a costume, too, or just you guys?”
“Daddy did get a costume.” Joel’s voice is the next one in the doorway, and when you look up, you cover your mouth with your hands and do your best to hide your laughing. There before you is your life partner of a little over a decade dressed as Mojo Dojo Casa House Ken, complete with the minx and everything. The kids all laugh and run over to Joel, climbing him like a tree, which he takes in stride. You knew Joel loved the Barbie movie— he loves anything you’re in— but this is a new feat.
“No way they were selling that at Spirit.” You say as he tickles the little Mario and Ghostface.
“They weren’t. I texted Greta bout a month or two ago and asked her if I could borrow it.”
“You just texted one of the most successful female directors of our time and the woman who has signed my paychecks to ask if you could borrow a costume from a billion-dollar film?”
“She thought it’d be funny.”
“Mommy, are you gonna be Barbie again?” Violet asks excitedly, and you laugh.
“I guess so.”
“Sublime!” Joel yells. Halloween isn’t for another couple of days, but you wouldn’t be able to tell with all the screaming costume-clad children running around the playroom. They’re obviously excited, but once Daisy comes into the room wearing bumble bee wings, it’s over. The kids and Daisy run down the hallway, trying to “catch the Daisy Bee” and leave you and Ken alone.
“You are absolutely ridiculous.” You say, but you’re smiling a little too big for it to be believable.
“There are worse things.” He says as he leans down to kiss you, but you put a hand on his lips before he can.
“I love you, but I’m not kissing you while you’re dressed like my coworker.”
“I’ll change.”
“Good idea,” you smile as he turns to leave, but you grab his hand before he can get far. “But if you happened to skip putting a shirt back on, that’d be cool, too.”
“Whatever you say, Barbie.”

now that i think about it, though, actress!reader and rockstar!joel having their own stars on the walk of fame would be iconic! the stans would be freaking out and ofc their families would be supportive
Hello I spent way too long writing these speeches??
You would both agree that because it’s such a big deal and you’ll probably already be crying all day to not speak at each other’s ceremony. It’s enough that the other and all the people you love and care for are there to support. Joel’s ceremony is a week before yours because you’re in different industries and he’s been in the public eye for longer than you. Which is fine because you’re weirdly nervous for your own ceremony. You’d much rather watch him get his first so you know what to expect.
The day of, you wear a simple, pretty black dress and gather your entire family into the car to get to Hollywood. The kids, all being 12 and above, don’t require as much supervision as they have in the past and are free to greet aunts and uncles they haven’t seen in a while. They quickly disperse in a chorus of, “Uncle Dave!” “Uncle Harry!” “Aunt Patti!” and more. You stay close to Joel before the ceremony actually starts and you’re relegated to the front row and he smiles sweetly as he kisses your cheek.
“Thanks for bein’ here.” He says and you smile and squeeze his bicep.
“Thanks for inviting me.” You say. You mingle through the crowd together, his hand always on your waist, in yours, or ruffling the hair of a passing child or grandchild that looks weirdly like him. When the ceremony begins, you sit in the front and he shoots you a wink from the podium before he starts giving his speech. Of course, he thanks his producers, band mates, managers, and everyone else as he spins the yarn of the young single-dad who showed up in LA with a dream and practically nothing else. Every once in a while, he looks up from his paper to meet your eyes and you nod to encourage him. Sometimes mouthing, “you got it.” He nods back and goes back to his words.
“I wouldn’t be near where I am today if it weren’t for my family. My brother, Tommy, and his wife, Maria, and their daughter, Lucy, never let me forget my roots and keep me grounded as the Texas boy I am. The little girl I showed up with is now a psychologist who’s way smarter than I’ll ever be, and a wonderful wife and mother to two little ones— Isaac and Eleanor. The daughter that isn’t of my blood but is of my soul is now a tattoo-covered drummer with an attitude that impresses even her Aunt Patti, an activist fighting for LGBTQ+ rights all across the world, and an amazing mother to a not-so-little JJ. My first son who’s given us a run for our money from the second he was born spends more time playin’ baseball than the guitar and we love him for it. My twin girls, our final Millers, never miss a beat and not only keep me on my toes but keep me updated on the latest TikTok trend so their old dad doesn’t go out of style just yet,” he says. Sophia and Violet giggle down the line of your family as you sit there and watch him. His eyes meet yours and you catch them misting over and you’re a goner.
“And my incredible wife who’s been patient, understanding, and gentle beyond belief for eighteen years. You are forever and always my inspiration, my rock, my best friend, and my confidant. The only reason I was able to make Grammy-winning albums and go on tour is because you stayed home with our kids for the first two years of their life. I know it wasn’t easy and there were days when we both wondered if we made the right decision. I hope you feel like we did. The sacrifices I’ve made are nothing compared to yours and I will do everything I can to repay you for that. This star— this accomplishment— is as much yours as it is mine. I love you with everything I am and everything I could ever be. Thank you.” His words hit your heart and all at once, all five of your kids are reaching across each other to grab your hand, touch your wrist, your knee, any part of you they can reach. You laugh and kiss each of their hands as you wipe your eyes. He looks at you with raised eyebrows, looking for approval, and you nod.
“I love you,” you mouth.
“I love you, too,” he mouths back.
At your ceremony, a week later, you stand on the same stage he did and look down at your family. The day’s emotions have made you especially teary and seeing all their sweet faces doesn’t do you any favors. “Alright, I’m gonna try to do this without crying,” you say, making everyone laugh. You thank your team and all the people you absolutely need to thank before turning to where you know Carolina, Ryan, Elizabeth, Victoria, and Penny are sitting.
“I met Carolina Garcia and Ryan Long while looking for a roommate for my 1,200 square foot apartment in Hell’s Kitchen. I was twenty and in the middle of my studies at NYU when Carolina responded to my Craig’s List ad. She said she didn’t have any pets, allergies, or baggage with her except for her boyfriend, Ryan. I was skeptical but agreed to meet him and thus began our decades-long friendship. When Carolina booked her first big TV gig, she threw my name in the hat and helped launch my career. Over the years, Carolina, Ryan, and their daughters have become cornerstones in my life. They made me a godmother and costar when they didn’t have to. They’re kind, selfless people and I owe who I am to them,” you say.
“Carolina and Ryan were also present when I met my husband, Joel Miller, and watched me fall in love with him. Carolina drunkenly told me during our wedding reception that she knew Joel was the one when I told her I could not only tolerate, but sleep through, his snoring,” Joel laughs a little too hard at the anecdote from his spot in the front when all five of the Miller children nod in agreement.
“Over our twenty-year relationship and eighteen-year marriage, Joel has given me support, love, and a family. I met his daughters, Sarah and Ellie, when they were 18 and 14, and although I didn’t bring them into this world, they gladly welcomed me into theirs. They were exceptionally patient and sweet as I adjusted to life with them and their father and let me love them as if they were my own. I never thought I could be a mother, but they helped prove me wrong. Quickly, we went from a family of four to a family of seven with the addition of Sam and our twins, Sophia and Violet, but through it all, the three of you made it easy to be a mom. Even then, all of you made me want to be a better mom, a better wife, a better actress, a better person. With the five of you, I felt unstoppable. I share this achievement with all of you as I do my love. Being your wife, mother, friend, godmother, and Nanny has been the greatest ride of my life. I love you. Thank you.”
Your family embraces you the second you’re off the stage and soon social media floods with pictures of Joel lifting you off the ground and spinning you around, kissing you, and holding your hand or waist for the rest of the day. You get sweet comments and congratulations from fans and other people in the industry. People Magazine celebrates the two of you as “The Most Successful Couple in Hollywood” and praises you for your speeches. You could give a thousand speeches and none of them could ever come close to describing what it feels like to watch Joel play with the kids and grandkids and nieces and nephews.
None of them could ever come close to encapsulating how much love you have for him and the life you get to lead together.

helloooooo here to request and plead for an OFTM piece from you where Sam has gotten in this phase where he is extra clingy to actress!reader and just wants to be with his mama all the time and doesn’t like it when Joel touches her or when her and Joel are sitting together, Sam will make sure he sits in between and clutches you and he’s saying stuff like no don’t touch my mama and Joel starts bantering back saying she’s mine first she’s my mama to rile him up…one of the instances where Sam again yells at Joel in his baby voice to not touch his mama and Joel is like HOW DO YOU THINK YOU GOT HERE?!?! Fluff fluff fluffff
OH I LOVE THIS
Mama’s Boy
Pairing: rockstar!joel miller x actress!reader
Summary: this ask
Warnings: a little bit of yearning, toddlers, fluff, that’s it!!
Tumblr media
"It's just a phase, Joel! He'll grow out of it in like a week." You say as you follow him into the kitchen after barely getting Sam down for a nap. Sam has never been the best sleeper, and with this new stage he's going through, it's gotten even harder. It doesn't help that Joel only wants to help, and Sam doesn't give less of a shit.
Sammy recently turned two and has become a Stage Four Clinger but only for you. He only wants you to do bathtime and bedtime. He only wants to sit with you, talk to you, snuggle with you. He only wants Mama all the time. And it was incredibly sweet for the first two days, but it's been a week now, and you're exhausted. He doesn't even like it when Joel tries to touch you, which has been more than frustrating for your constantly affectionate husband. He even started climbing in bed with you two, positioning himself so Joel can't even throw an arm around you as he sleeps.
"Easy for you to say. You're not the one getting pushed out." He pouts, crossing his arms over his chest.
"'Pushed out?' Okay, that's a little dramatic, even for you." You laugh as you wrap your arms around his waist and kiss his jaw. He sighs and uncrosses his arms enough to catch your belt loops with his fingers. It's the closest you've gotten in several days, and you both take the opportunity to relish in it. He smells like cedar and something smoky, and his stubble is rough against your lips. He's gotten more lax with his shaving since Sam was born, and you are definitely not against it. The beard suits him, and you've told him that many times. It's probably why he still hasn't shaved.
As you kiss his skin, he dips his chin to catch your lips and tugs on your belt loops to bring you closer. The sun spilling in from the kitchen window warms Joel's back, and your engagement ring catches on the soft cotton of his shirt, revealing a little sliver of perfect skin. There's no rush or urgency to the kiss. It's just about being close to him in your quiet house.
"I miss you," he whispers against you, and you nod.
"'M right here."
"I know," he sighs, his grip on you tightening just a little. "I know."
"And you know he's just being clingy, and it has nothing to do with you, right?" You ask. "I'm sure Sarah and Ellie went through the same thing when they were younger."
"Sarah and Ellie didn't have two parents until they were teenagers, so they had no choice but to stick close to me." He says, a smile pulling on his lips, and you tug on his shirt.
"You know what I meant."
"I did," he says, kissing your cheek. "Still hard, though."
"I get it. It's hard for me, too, but we'll miss this one day." You know he knows it's true. Even though you came into the girls' lives so late, you still miss the days when you set the table for four people or had to figure out whose car would be big enough to transport all the Millers. One day, Sam will have his own life and responsibilities, just like his sisters, but he's still your little guy right now. You can stand a little clinginess. Besides, he is his father's son. You're sure he'll almost always have a soft spot for affection.
You and Joel spend Sam's naptime cuddling on the couch and talking for the first time in a week as Daisy snoozes on her bed. He taps drumbeats into your skin as he listens to you, and you inadvertently derail his thoughts when you get distracted by kissing his face. When the world's saddest "Mama" crackles through the baby monitor, you sigh and drop your face into the crook of Joel's neck. He turns and kisses the shell of your ear, rubbing soothing circles into your shoulders.
"'S just a phase." He whispers, and you nod.
"Just a phase." You repeat as you kiss him one last time before crawling off of him and walking up the stairs. On the baby monitor, Joel watches you enter Sam's nursery, making the biggest smile break out across his son's face, and you take him in your arms, gently asking him if he had a good nap. Sam wraps his arms around your neck and lays his head full of curls on your shoulder. Watching you two is like watching two puzzle pieces fit perfectly together. He smiles as you kiss his head and sway in the dark room, humming one of his songs.
"D'you wanna go get a snack?" You ask him quietly, and he nods against you.
"I want a orange." He says.
"You can have an orange, but Mama's not that good at peeling them. Is it okay if Dada does it?"
"Dada?"
"Yeah, Dada's downstairs. And guess what?" You ask, and Sam raises his eyebrows. "I think he said something about going swimming today. What do you think about that?"
"Swimming!" Sam yells so loudly that Joel can hear it downstairs. You laugh and kiss his cheek before opening the door and walking downstairs. When Sam sees Joel, his eyes light up, and he buries his head in your neck shyly. Daisy's sixth sense seems to pick up Sam is awake because suddenly she's up and stretching, more than ready for playtime.
"Hey, buddy. D'you wanna snack?" He asks, and Sam beams. Then, in a miraculous feat, Joel opens his hands to Sam, and Sam goes to him without fussing. In fact, he even seems excited to spend some time with his dad. You sigh in relief to yourself as you follow them into the kitchen.
That afternoon, you, Sam, and Joel play in the pool without a massive tantrum or breakdown from either party. Sam bounces seamlessly from your arms to Joel's, giggling with both of you as the California sun beats down on his little hat. The only time he gets a little fussy is when Joel wraps the arm, not holding Sammy around your waist, and pulls you close. He pouts and gives Joel the Ellie Miller Stink Face, and you laugh.
"What's that look for?" Joel asks, and Sam points to where he's holding you.
"That's my mama."
"I know."
"You no touch my mama," Sam says, tugging on Joel's bicep to get him to let go of you.
"Did you know that Mama was my wife before she was your mama?" Joel asks, but Sam is not amused. He's still trying to get Joel to let go of you, clawing at his arm. You lean in and kiss Joel's cheek just to see what he'll do, and in true Joel Miller fashion, your two-year-old sighs like an old man weathered by the sands of time.
"You my mama. Not Dada's mama."
"No, Abuela Lucy is Dada's mama. That's why she's your Abuela. I'm Dada's wife." You explain.
"True." Joel chimes in. Sam looks between you and Joel suspiciously, and Joel slowly leans in to kiss you, but Sam puts a hand on Joel's mouth before he can.
"She's my wife, dude!" Joel laughs.
"No!"
"No, what?"
"No!"
"She was mine first!"
"My mama!" Sam yells as he wiggles away from Joel to get to you, and you laugh.
"I can get kisses from both my boys, silly goose." You say as you kiss his cheek and move to try and kiss Joel again, thinking that will appease his mysterious toddler brain.
"No!" He yells again.
"Samuel James Miller-"
"How do you think you got here?" You swear you had a thought, but Joel's absolutely insane response makes you whip your head around and smack his arm.
"Joel Miller!"
"Oh, she got us both with the full names, Sammy," Joel says, making an eek face at his son. "Let's swim away before she can do it again." He scoops the giggly little boy out of your arms and swims to the other side of the pool. Then, it becomes a game of you chasing the boys around the pool while calling out their full names, pretending they're in trouble. When you finally catch up to them, Joel "attacks" you with kisses to distract you long enough to swim away again and start the game all over.
That night, after conspiring against you all day, Sam finally lets Joel put him to bed and doesn't even scream whenever he kisses you. Still, he asks you to read him one story while Joel reads the second. Even though he snapped out of the phase with a silly game, it's nice to know he'll always need his mama, and Joel will always need you.

This is so real and gorgeous to ME
I think it’d be a close friends wedding, maybe your manager Sierra, and the last wedding you guys attended was your own and while it was a blast you definitely didn’t have as much fun as your guests did so now that you guys don’t have any responsibilities for the day besides to go and celebrate someone you love, you go all out
Joel would OWN the dance floor with his silly moves but he’d be having so much fun that you have no choice but to join him (he definitely tries and somehow succeeds at doing the Dirty Dancing lift) and as the night goes on, he starts losing more and more layers until he’s left in his white button up shirt and even that is hanging on by a thread as he undoes more and more buttons and you guys slow dance (a little drunk and a lot in love) and you can’t stop from touching his warm chest and swaying with him
After the wedding, you guys would giggle and stumble your way to your hotel room, hanging onto each other for dear life, and do your absolute best not to drop the tie or a heel on your way up. Needless to say, you guys had a great time and you make a mental note to get invited to more weddings if only to see Joel dancing again

Omg YESSSS (side note: i love Dave Grohl so this fits so well (ps this is gonna be me filling the doc with random thoughts pls enjoy))
He doesn’t even realize he’s doing it. You’re not sure if that makes it better or worse. You love him, you do. You married him. You gave him three children. You wake up every day and choose to do life with him. You love him so fucking much. But, you swear to God, you’re gonna punch him in the face if he doesn’t stop finding new ways to annoy you.
He’s a musician and has the musician habit of tapping and drumming on things whilst working out a melody or whatever else is swirling around in his head. The tapping you’ve gotten used to. The vocalizing of random thoughts, you have not. You’ll be trying to read a script or something when he comes into the room and just starts making random noises or quoting movie scenes under his breath. One time, you burst out laughing and woke the girls up from a nap when you heard him whisper, “Lieutenant Dan, you ain’t got no legs,” out of nowhere. If you say anything remotely similar to a song lyric, he starts singing the song, guitar solos and all. It makes the kids laugh and the older girls have been known to secretly giggle when you give Joel a look for annoying you. Still, he hasn’t stopped and has no plans of trying.
His new favorite thing to do is to narrate everything he does in a Kardashian voice. Getting orange juice for Sam in the morning: “Oh my God, this juice is literally gonna be so good for you.” Taking Daisy for a walk: “You are literally so fit. Bible.” Leaving a room: “Okay, I have to go I have a thing.” You have no idea where he picked it up or why but it’s driving you up a wall. Finally, while you’re getting ready for bed, he mutters something in a Kardashian voice under his breath and you whip around.
“What are you doing?!” You ask and he raises his eyebrows at you.
“Washin’ my face?”
“No, not that! What is this new bit or whatever you’ve picked up?”
“What do you even mean?” He asks in the Kardashian voice and it takes everything in you to not grab his shirt and shake him. “I’m literally not even doing anything. Bible.”
“You’re making me crazy.”
“Why?” The long vowels and the high-pitched voice is annoying but it’s the twinkle in his eyes that makes you break and laugh. “You’re literally being so dramatic. I’m not even doing anything.”
“Stop! Where did you even get this from?”
“Get whaaat?”
“Joel!”
“Who’s Joel?”
“I’m gonna call your mom.”
“I’m literally a freaking adult. You can’t call my moooomm.”
“Our children are gonna start sounding like this un ironically if you don’t stop,” you threaten as he crowds your space, pushing you against the sink with a smirk on his face. “You’re gonna sleep in the couch if you don’t stop.”
“If you hate it so much, why are you literally smiling?”
“Because you’re ridiculous!”
“You literally married me.”
“I don’t know why.”
“Ouch!” Joel says, suddenly dropping the Kardashian voice, and you laugh. You put your hands on his chest and quickly and profusely apologize but he makes a mock pained face away from you. “That is literally,” he pauses to make an awful crying face. “The meanest fucking thing you ever could’ve said.”
“Joel-”
“No, because like why would you even say that? You, like, think you know somebody and then they just betray you and it’s like you literally can’t even trust anybody these days.” He’s breaking himself with his own bit and you both burst into silly laughter.
“You desperately need an ADHD diagnosis.” You say.
“I’ll get one as soon as you get one.” He counters and you squint at him.
“Touché, Miller, Touché.”
