I would like to know your thoughts on potential lovewolf angst 👀👀👀
thank you for asking ok so
(disclaimer it has been a while since I listened to the early eps so my characterisation might be slightly off but eh it’s a head canon. also there’s a tldr because this got away from me)
so like. lark and sparrow have always been The Same. they’re identical, naturally, they’re barely a few minutes apart in age, they’ve done everything together. they’re more than siblings, more than friends, they’re as close as two people are really. not to say they don’t have conflict, but they’re always a united front. they do the same things and they do them together. they’re larkandsparrow.
and then in the forgotten realms they’re separated, just for a little, during the lord of chaos arc. and sparrow gets this character defining talk about violence and peace and what it means to be a love wolf. this talk with his dad essentially defines his character growth and marks him out as an individual for most of the show, it affects his behaviour a lot. and lark misses it.
and suddenly they aren’t larkandsparrow anymore because lark was expecting this all to be the same, because they’ve always been identical, they’ve always been this united front. but now sparrow has changed so much in the span of minutes, and he keeps talking about peace and emotions and all the stuff they used to love ignoring when their father lectured them. sometimes lark doesn’t feel like he even knows his brother any more and that Hurts, because they’ve always been larkandsparrow and he’s already dealing with so much pain and change, and he doesn’t know what will happen if he doesn’t have sparrow beside him. sparrow was such a constant in his life but now that’s been taken away along with so much else.
and sparrow has to cope with so much. he talks to his father, and learns the power of the love wolf, but now he’s torn, because he can’t be the love wolf and have lark by his side (it’s one of the only proper fights they’ve ever had. they didn’t talk for a day afterward and it felt like dying). sparrow wants to share this with his brother like they share everything but he can’t deal with this choice. and now he’s having to mediate a conflict between his dad and his brother, and that’s not a decision he thought he’d be making because before it had always been lark, but he’s realising he can’t just be larkandsparrow now. and he’s a traumatised 13 year old being forced into the emotional maturity of an adult man because god damnit nobody else is willing to, and he’s not acting out so nobody notices anymore but he just wants to scream because this is hard for him too!
tldr lark and sparrow were introduced as identical in all ways, but sparrow changed and lark didn’t and both of them don’t know how to deal with that when they’ve always had the other as a constant
