#i do not trust the idea of decentralised social networking for multiple reasons#and i do not think that such a thing can be a good replacement for twitter or any other network for that matter#twitter's problem is that it's a monopoly on the specific format#and it's odd to say it but twitter's also got a monopoly on size#people only crowd towards mastodon because they're out of options but to say that it makes m'don good is nonsense#i do not like the implications on privacy nor on community quality nor#the implications of not having a central authority that can be pressured and held to account#one single account for everything without compartmentalisation is a privacy nightmare on the level of the Only Four Websites all#deciding to pool all their data together#which probably happens to some extent but the logical endpoint of that should not be any kind of norm no matter how#non-corporate it might be#this might be like an instance of web 3 but with people actually falling for the hype#it might end clownishly like the internet's version of the libertarian bear town#but that doesn't mean that it will not cause some kind of damage
