The entire show, he couldn't take his eyes off the bartender. He instantly knew who she was. Kitty Pryde of the X-Men. They had crossed paths years ago on the opposite side of things. The two of them always seemed like they were the untouchable ones on either side. Her phasing through everything and him dodging everything. Even Marvel Girl had trouble holding him down.

But he had left that life when he was seventeen. He had a whole new life, his past hidden well by Mystique. He would never understand why she, of all people, decided to help him by being his manager, but he took the help. At some point there would be something he would regret from her, he knew that.

She had to know it was him. Their eyes caught each other's as he performed and she served the drinks. His face might have turned a little red a few times, something he could play off from the show. Not because his teenage crush was watching him perform.

It was not often that the Green Goblin, infamous as he could sometimes be, joined forces with anyone, much less anyone the people could define as a hero, but some times the situation was simply, easily, just that bad. And if nothing else, the Goblin was a pragmatist.

He might have also overestimated himself in the face of a new threat, choosing to confront the small squad of hunters on his own. Which had soon become not that small a squad... and forced him to retreat, ego and armor both bruised.

The glare he offered her was far from pleasant, but it also didn't hold much of a threat. Not at the moment.

"That's far from a useful remark." He pointed out, rather coolly.

But she'd told him so.

This wasn't right, she thinks looking around the room at splochy purple fuzzballs that was growing along the wall like fungi. A part of her thins about simply poking them, but she was wiser than that. On top of that, what Kitty Pryde probably can't see (she wouldn't know what she was capable of or not capable of) is the gloaming fog that radiates from these fuzzballs. She could see that due to being energy being herself, if she simply blurred her vision and the whites of her eyes darken into a void, her blue irises lost as well, and she thinks that maybe the mutant human shouldn't be breathing this in.

Marlene was going to make a comment about health, then stopped herself. God, she was being such a MOM. And really, was a little ice cream and relaxation going to kill anyone? Marlene was constantly on the move these days - and not even the BIG MOVES any more. Here she was settled back in the US.

Did she ever actually take any time to relax? Diatrice and work, work and Di. They were the two big things in her life (though, of course one of those she loved a whole lot more).

“I’ve not had an ice cream and comfy clothes day in a long time,” she admitted, “Not even with Di.” And that was sad. But it also made her determined, cause like hell was she going to make herself feel sad. It was so simple and easy to do.

“I think that’s a pretty good way to love yourself. And I’m just saying, sometimes a little company isn’t such a bad thing. You know?”

It had been instinctual, it had been her body moving and her brain catching up. Kitty didn't regret her actions, she just couldn't fully explain them either. But what difference did it make now? He had kissed her back after all. Perhaps not such a bad thing for her to have done. Slightly flushed (and she would tell herself from the exertion of the fight, and not their close proximity now or from their actions), she gave a grin in return. "Maybe I was a bit slow to the chase, but I still give my all. My timing isn't impeccable, but I have style." Yeah, that's what she would say. She gave a laugh, turning away with that flush still playing over her features. Unexpected, but good. Well, most things in her life were unexpected and chaotic, so like, it was only natural things like this would be the same way. "I feel like I should say something like, I don't normally do this, but that seems kinda cheesy? And also like... Makes it sound like I do." She glashed him a quick grin, "But honest, I don't. You caught me on a very good day."

There was no possible way that Ben could argue against her style; he was liable to be thinking about the kiss for a long while. The only thing he was left questioning was whether to feel flattered that he'd been the lucky recipient of her uncommon outburst or disappointed by the presumed lack of a follow-up,

He made a show of looking around at their defeated foes, trying to get his heart rate back down. "Hey, y'know, it occurs to me that maybe you ought to give me some way to get in touch with you. Just in case there turns out to be more of these guys in the city or something." In a normal scenario, he'd expect to receive a phone number (or maybe just a "no"), but with the way the X-Men had been innovating lately, he couldn't be certain Kitty had anything nearly so straightforward. Even if the kiss was a one-off, the Scarlet Spider could always use more allies to rely on in their shared line of work, even if there was no further AIM threat on the horizon.

Pietro just stared at Katherine as she just 'booped' him over and over. He did not know what was going on; he didn't quite follow trends or fads, but this one in particular had all the makings to be the most annoying. But you wouldn't think that with the way his stern face started to crack into a small smile, "You do know I am keeping count of those, right?"

Wanda was no hunter.

A fighter, there was no doubt about that. She could be brutal when necessary. But she didn’t prowl nor did she stalk.

If there was someone she ought to be working with for this session then Blade or Elsa sprang to mind. Both capable. Both with ample experience in matters of the UNDEAD. But neither were available and it was Reese who had first questioned the situation and Kate who had firsthand experience of what was happening.

And so here was the crack team looking to rid Lotkill of vampires. It seemed like the starter of a rather cringey and cliche movie.

Wanda believe both Kate and Reese capable, but Kate far exceeded Reese in experience and hardiness. Reese had not chosen to be a predator. She ought not to be involved in the fight - but she had chosen to be here and Wanda wasn’t going to patronise her. Her information had been invaluable.

When Reese had first visited the Emporium, nothing had been amiss. Wanda had extended her hand and offered for her to come - she had a few other vampire clients and plenty who chose to come out only at night. The shop had late hours when Wanda wanted it to. And the Last Door didn’t keep any hours. Things happened when it happened. Reese (and the House of Shadows, Mission) had welcome her and she would welcome them. And then Reese had come again and wanted had been happy to assist with a small matter and— was that when the trouble began?

She wondered if Reese had mentioned the recruitment drive to Marc or not. Perhaps she ought to. He should know. But that could wait now. The vampire cult in Lotkill had been non-existent and then had suddenly burst forth. Wanda…. Well, she blamed herself. She blamed herself for a lot, probably even when she should not. But she’d brought mystical energy to the small town and mystical energy drew in mystical energy. They’d been drawn to her. So she blamed herself. That was also something that could wait.

How had she not noticed? All the time spent in the city perhaps or time focused on Last Door jobs. And vampires? She had experience, but not regularly. No one had gone missing - that was noticeable. Tourists. Transients. Who noticed those people when they left no footprint or trace? When they no hand in the situation?

The group (CULT) had grown and now— they’d tried to snatch up Reese, bring her into the fold.

Now— they’d try to attack Kate, make her one of them.

NOW— they had royally pissed off the Scarlet Witch.

“I won’t try and dissuade you, Reese. But it’s you they want. I don’t think you should be near. And I don’t want you hurt. But you’re stubborn…” A pause, and then she shook her head. “Your help will be invaluable. Knowing where they are is a massive help. If you can help us track them down I’d be grateful.” A look to her fellow mutant now, “Kate and I can handle it from there.”

Kate, Wanda was sure, would be fine. She’d had dark incidents in the past with vampires (that look in her eyes when Dracula was mentioned could turn the undead deader). But she was strong and a capable fighter.

Reese? This situation was so similar to how SHE had been turned. The operation was bigger and wider spread, but it was the same. A nest looking to grow. And here they were discussing how to kill vampires. Reese was ALSO capable, but she had feelings and this wasn’t ideal. This wasn’t nice. She’d gone through a lot and Wanda didn’t want to make things… more difficult. She really ought to tell Marc. Just in case. Tonight would go well, but going forward—? She pushed the thought away. They had to have their wits about them and be in the moment.

Reese wasn’t backing down, neither was she. Reese was doing good when she could. Doing better.

“How many went after you again, Kate?” Wanda questioned. Knowing how many went out in a pack to hunt may indicate the greater number of them. She picked up a few weapons of her own to take (oh, they had a magical plan of course but to get to that the two mutants needed to take out more than a few first). They were almost ready to head out, but there was always time to take in more information.

Marlene attempted to stifle her laughter, failed, and snorted - which since she was drinking soda at the time was actually more than a little painful. Her hand went to her face, stifling the sound as well as slyly checking there was nothing on her face. Sighing, she tilted her head back, her blonde hair flowing down her back.

“That’s a good one. I wish OTHER people around me had kept that motto - but then again, I hear it’s not a motto the X-Men stick to all that often.” She looked over at him, sending him a warm smile. Marlene gave a little shake of her head, thinking it over for a moment. Letting the meaning truly sink in. She knew her friend (FRIEND, friends with a member of the X-Men, brought together by a certain SCARLET WITCH). She knew Kitty was only joking, and truthfully she was happy to have some levity - because here was Kitty before her, safe and sound.

“Crazy life to need that as the statement,” she added, but it was hardly unexpected. And hardly new for her.

The blonde shook her head, glancing away with a little smile. “Whilst I approve of the statement, maybe everyone needs to find a line of work where that’s a GIVEN and not something that needs to be repeated as a mantra.”

Pietro had gotten the S.O.S. from Katherine that she needed 'rescuing.' What it really meant was that she was tired of someone or something about the island, and she wanted to get away. It was something he had promised before they had even started to date. Most like her just using him as a way off the island whenever she wanted, and he did make it rather nice showing her the sunset the first time.

Usually, she gave him a reason she needed to leave, but this time, it seemed different. Probably something Shaw said or did. But he didn't ask any questions as he lifted her up into his arms and sped away from the island.

It took only a few moments to reach the grassy hiss of Transia, there wasn't a soul around. "So, do you care to tell me why you needed such a quick exit?"
