Entertainment Weekly just placed Dead Boy Detectives on their "Top 19 Best Supernatural Shows to Stream Right Now" list.

Mind you, Dead Boy Detectives is making these lists AFTER cancelation! IT RANKED AT NUMBER 5/19 (and beat out some pretty big names, I might add). The EW is a hugely popular publication! It's so bonkers to me that Netflix would cancel such a highly beloved, successful show that I had to write them about it, yet again!

If you need inspiration to keep talking about Dead Boy Detectives and hold out hope that we can save this show, THIS should help. Keep streaming, keep promoting it EVERYWHERE, keep creating for it, and for the love of all things wonderful keep bothering Netflix. This show shouldn't have been canceled, and we need to keep reminding them of what a poor decision they're making. ESPECIALLY with GeekedWeek coming up, we need to be SUPER noisy for and about Dead Boy Detectives.

I previously reached out regarding Netflix's unfortunate decision to cancel Dead Boy Detectives, but since our previous correspondence, there have been several articles admonishing the surprising and untimely cancelation of Dead Boy Detectives. The publications include but are not limited to BamSmackPow, CBR, CHIP, Quotenmeter, Serienjunkies, Serienfuchs, Filmstarts, Movie Pilot, Kino, Vodafone Deutschland, Dread Central, Pop Culture, Sentidog, Geek Girl Authority. and Animation World Network.

Three notable articles have come out post-cancelation that I'd like to highlight due to their succinct, well-informed perspectives on why canceling Dead Boy Detectives was a poor decision are as follows:

It would be remiss of me not to emphasize how these publications are not just central to the US and UK; the cancelation of Dead Boy Detectives is being reported and scrutinized internationally, in several languages and countries.

What truly prompted me to contact you again is an article that was released by Entertainment Weekly today, September 11, 2024. In the article, "The Best 19 Supernatural Shows to Stream Right Now," EW placed Dead Boy Detectives in the #5 slot: it outranked other shows on your platform such as Stranger Things (#13) and Wednesday (#18). The Sandman, the show which Dead Boy Detectives is a spinoff of, is notably not present on the list at all. You can find the article here on ew.com.

Dead Boy Detectives was also ranked as the #1 Best DC Live Action Show available on Netflix by MovieWeb, outranking titles such as The Flash (which has a whopping 9 seasons), Lucifer (a show that was so loved by fans that Netflix picked it up after its own untimely cancelation, mind you) and, yet again, The Sandman.

All this to say, Dead Boy Detectives is still making "Best of" lists even after its cancellation, and it is ranking exceedingly well on said lists! This speaks volumes in and of itself; people are just as outraged today as they were the day it was canceled and it's abundantly clear that critics and audiences alike love this show and want to see more of it! You have a hit show on your hands that is growing in popularity daily, meaning Netflix truly has everything to gain by listening to customers and rethinking this objectively unpopular and unfounded decision.

Please do not waste the immense potential of this incredible show that means so much to so many people. I appreciate your consideration today and implore you to listen to the outcries of fans and critics alike, to do right by the cast and crew of Dead Boy Detectives, and ultimately repeal its cancelation.

Okot p’Bitek (June 7, 1931 – July 20, 1982) was a Ugandan poet, who achieved wide international recognition for Song of Lawino. Song of Lawino was written in the Acholi dialect of Southern Luo, translated by the author into English, and published in 1966. It was a breakthrough work, creating an audience among anglophone Africans for direct, topical poetry in English. It was followed by the Song of Ocol (1970), the husband’s reply.

The “East African Song School” or “Okot School poetry” is now an academic identification of the work following his direction, popularly called “comic singing”: a forceful type of dramatic verse monologue rooted in traditional song and phraseology.

He was born in Gulu, in the North Uganda grasslands. His father, Jebedayo Opi, was a schoolteacher, while his mother, Lacwaa Cerina, was a traditional singer, storyteller, and dancer. His ethnic background was Acholi, and he wrote first in the Acholi dialect, known as Lwo. Acholi is a dialect of Southern Luo, one of the Western Nilotic languages.

He was educated at Gulu High School, then at King’s College, Budo, where he composed an opera based on traditional songs. He went on to study at universities in the UK.

He traveled abroad as a player with the Ugandan national football team. He gave up on football as a possible career, stayed in Britain, and studied education at the University of Bristol and then law at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. He took a BA in social anthropology at the University of Oxford, with a dissertation on Acholi and Lango traditional cultures.

It is reported that Oxford deliberately failed his Ph.D. The dissertation was published nearly unchanged as The Religion of the Central Luo by a Kenyan publisher.

According to George Heron, he lost his commitment to Christian belief during these years. This had major consequences for his attitude as a scholar of African tradition, which was by no means accepting of the general run of earlier work, or what he called “dirty gossip” about tribal life. Opis pracy: "Ognisty Rumak" powstał na podstawie legendy o ognistym koniu, znanym na Śląsku demonie, galopujących po polach i zagonach. Powstawał z duszy szlachcica—grzesznika, który oszukiwał chłopów zagarniając ich dobytek przez co często doprowadzając do ich nędzy lub śmierci głodowej. Po śmierci taki niegodziwiec musiał odbyć pokutę na ziemi, biegając po swoich włościach przez setki, lub tysiące lat.

日本から南西へ約3000キロ、飛行機でおよそ5時間。太平洋に浮かぶおよそ7000もの

島々で構成されている島国、フィリピン。正式には、フィリピン共和国。気候は熱帯で

人口は日本とほぼ同じ1億1000万人。フィリピンはアジア圏に位置しながら、歴史的に

スペインにおよそ300年、アメリカにおよそ50年の間、植民地となっていた背景から、

東洋と西洋の文化がミックスした、独特のカルチャーと生活様式を持つ国みたいです。

そんなフィリピンは、首都・マニラをはじめ、セブ島やミンダナオ島などが観光地として

人気ですが、最近まじアツいらしいのがポップミュージック！中でも注目されてるのが、

2018年にデビューした5人組ボーイズグループ、SB19（エスビーナインティーン）。

デビューから3年後の2021年に、USのビルボード・ミュージック・アワードにおいて

インターネット上での影響力を示す『トップ・ソーシャル・アーティスト』部門に、韓国の

BTSやBLACKPINKとかと並び、フィリピン人アーティストとして史上初めてノミネート。

さらに同じ2021年にリリースした6枚目のシングル曲「MAPA」は、その年のGoogleの

『世界で最も検索された曲』で5位を獲得。（1位はオリビア・ロドリゴ「drivers license」）

そして今年！2023年にリリースした曲「GENTO」が、”GENTO!”と繰り返すヴォーカル、

そして”腰ヒット”と呼ばれる振りを使ったインパクトあるダンスで、韓国のKep1erや

ATEEZ、日本の欅坂46とか”アイドル”が続々ダンスカバーするほど激アツなんだって!

フィリピンのポップミュージックは最近”P-Pop”とも呼ばれていますが、その始まり･･･

特にPopミュージックのグループは、いつ生まれたのか･･･?、気になったので人間が

開発したAI『ChatGPT』に聞いたら”知らねーよ”と上から目線で答えが返ってきたので

人力でいま分かる範囲で調べてみました！仕事もしないで、その前に職を探さないで。

ファッション&ユースカルチャーメディア『i-D』の『P-popの初心者向けガイド』っていう

記事よると、フィリピンのPopミュージックは、”60年代から70 年代にかけて、国内で

最も人気があったOPM（オリジナルのフィリピンミュージック）を起源”として発展した

音楽らしいです。オリジナルのフィリピンミュージック、OPMとは簡単にいいますと、

”フィリピンの人によって作詞・作曲、そして歌われた曲”のこと。アメトーーク！のOPP、

Naughty by NatureのO.P.P.、あとあやまんJAPANのOPIとは全く関係ないそうです。

では、OPMとP-Popの違いは何か？記事では、フィリピンの映画監督で脚本家の

Jason Paul Laxamanaさんの”OPMというとバラードやオルタナティブ・ミュージックを

連想するが、踊り(dancing)はあまり含まれていなかった”との証言を引用しています。

続いて、フィリピンの報道チャンネル『CNNフィリピン』の『P-POPの起源をたどる』という

記事を、サンプリングちゃうでパクります！記事によると、フィリピンの音楽シーンで

”シンガーとダンサーのハイブリッドに該当するグループとして活動したグループは、

80年代”になって登場。その1つが男女混合のグループである、Smokey Mountain

（スモーキー・マウンテン）。そして、”1990年代後半から2000年代初頭にかけて、

西洋の【ポップグループ】のコンセプトに向かう動きがありました”と、書いています！

しかも記事では、その時登場したグループ名を具体的に挙げています。それは5組･･･

Fruitcake、JCS、Streetboys、Vanna Vanna、WYRD！！まじ超有力情報をー･･･

（部屋着から黄色いスーツに着替えてから部屋でひとり腰に手を当てて）、ゲッツ！！

でもね、ここから先、フィリピンで誕生もしくは爆誕した最初のP-Popグループについて

書かれた文献は見つかりません。レインボーブリッジも封鎖できません！そこで･･･

ここから参考にしたのは、P-Popファンによるインターネット百科事典『P-pop Wiki』。

検索をかけると、このような記述がありました･･･ ”Streetboysは、1993年に結成された

フィリピンのボーイズグループ。グループはフィリピン初のボーイズグループでした”。

しかし、ニュースポータルサイト『The Filipino Times』の記事では、Streetboysは

”ダンスグループ”と記載、またWikipediaではフィリピンでStreetboysより早い1991年に

結成されたグループ・UMD（Universal Motion Dancers）に”アイドル”の冠つき、

また、フィリピンのテレビ局『GMA Network』の記事では、StreetboysやUMDと並んで

”1985年”に活動をスタートさせたグループ・Manoeuvresも、女性に人気があったと

記述されています。なぞは、探偵・毛利小五郎の推理か三億円事件なみに迷宮入り!

正しい情報に辿り着くには、まだまだリサーチが必要ですが、P-Popのファンダムが、

Streetboysを”初のボーイズグループ”としたのには、フィリピ��のポップカルチャーに

影響を与えた多くのダンスヒット曲をリリースし、人気を獲得したことがあるようです。

Streetboysはフィリピンの映像ディレクターであるチト・ロニョ（Chito Roño）さんが行った

オーディションでメンバーが選ばれ、そして1997年にリリースしたデビュー・シングル曲

「Boom Tiyaya」が大ヒットしたそうです。そのStreetboys「Boom Tiyaya」のMVが、

Now, why is Mental health known as the Cinderella of Health Care? To understand that, you would have to be familiar with the story of Cinderella. Don’t worry, I don’t know it either, shhhhh 🤫! According to a quick internet search and the tens of memes I have come across relating to the ‘Cinderella’ story, it is about a young girl who loses her father at a young age, leaving her under the care of her abusive stepmother and two stepsisters. Cinderella is neglected and overlooked in her household.

Now, here why this topic is so fitting. A lot of people can agree that when compared to physical health, mental health is the rather neglected and not given nearly as enough attention it deserves. According to the Mental Health and Integration: Cinderella or the Ugly Sisters? (n.d.), “The phrase ‘Cinderella service’ is often applied to mental health in the UK in respect of the lack of funding that it receives in comparison to physical health treatment services.” Most of the funding goes to countering and dealing with and treating physical disabilities than mental health.

According to an article posted by The State of Mental Health in South Africa | EAPA-SA, n.d.), South Africa ranks as one of the worst countries in the world regarding mental health. According to this article, South Africa spends about 5% of its total health budget on mental health. Poor South Africans have the worst end, as there is a lack of accessibility to mental health care in the public sector. In black communities, it is said they often do not seek mental health care due to the stigma where their families call them weak or dramatic, so they end up just suffering in silence.

There is not much awareness raised about mental health compared to physical health. Even as a student, I can tell in venues in which I have been placed that the focus is on physical health. For the elderly, the active aging programs mainly focus on the physical components. Retirement homes and assisted living facilities do not do enough to address the mental health issues people suffer from. They easily call a schizophrenic person crazy or dramatic when they could be learning about mental health issues so they understand the people suffering from them better.

Personally, I feel mental health is as equally important as physical health. We need to stop neglecting mental health as they both go hand and hand. We need to learn about mental health, so we don’t judge those that suffer, but instead support them.
