its funny bc i was LITERALLY going to add an addendum to my about like, please dont ask me to adjudicate in your identity wars because i have my own opinions which i formed through 1. research and 2. experience and i want everyone else to do the same so im happy to point u to further resources and offer some viewpoints but i will not just tell you what to identify as because people basing all their opinions on what random tumblr users told them has already caused so much mess in the lgbt community etc etc but I deleted it bc i thought it sounded condescending and made the page way too long n I probably wont get asks like that anyway -_-

it just annoys me cuz what u mean is either "im vetting u to make sure we agree" which i think is sooo childish sorry! or u mean either "im bi and using the term butch and i want ur approval" (why? you already made the decision to do so, so what does my input give u now?) or else "im bi and considering using the term butch and want ur input" in which case like what i say is irrelevant bc if u dont know for urself what butch means enough to evaluate for yourself how it applies to you and if it fits with your identity and your lifestyle then i dont think u should be identifying as butch at all until u figure that out for urself. bc my universal issue is just ppl who decide to be butch/femme based exclusively on tumblr and disrespect the terms and their history with the inevitably shallow interpretations wrought through ignorance.

im not going to give u some argument abt who can and cant like "stake a claim" on x identity because i dont really believe in that mode of Lgbt Discourse. my answer would only be based on like practical interpretation of like, does this make sense, is it constructive, is it a useful label that clarifies something in some way, is it respectful to others who use the term etc. and frankly u can interpret that for urself better than i can so like i can tell u what my opinion is if thats actually what u want to know but only on the condition that thats MY opinion and i only really care what butch and femme mean to me and my gf and sometimes my butchfemme friends and being none of those i havent really allocated any of my energy to caring
