the best aspect of watching aitsf is that now i can understand my oomfs' osiris (mizuki end iris+so) lore. so here's some boring doodles i've done while this aini lp plays

k so expanding off of the fic idea that I had in the tags (spoilers lol) warning this is SUPER LONG and a very messy outline but I figured why the hell not. (SPOILERS FOR AITSF AND AINI)

but this also kinda spoils the fic I want to write but I know I would be more motivated to write it if I put my messy outline here rather than in my documents where it never sees the light of day. So spoiler warning on something that does not currently exist:

This initial part is the SUPER MESSY outline and then towards the end there is a more neatly written outline. But I am just going to list all of my thoughts here and scream into the void because it helps me think.

basically I want to write a fic where Osiris (So as Iris) has to navigate his new identity. There would be a period of time where he has to deal with her brain tumor (before he gets access to his bank accounts and pays for the treatment), and in that period I want him to get humbled and scared so bad. He will be hallucinating Manaka and I will put him through the horrors, but he will become a better person after the treatment. I feel like right before he goes under for surgery, when the hallucinations are at their peak, there will be a ghostly Manaka telling him "take care of our baby for me" or something like that. And then from that point he will want to live on not only for his own selfish sake, but for Iris's as well.

He would have probably pushed everyone away at the beginning, but then later on I imagine he would have healed both physically and emotionally and decide to reconnect with Iris's community. Obviously he has mixed feelings on Hitomi, but I would write him to grow to respect her much more as time goes on, but not without initially coming off as a moody teen. The mother-daughter relationship would fall apart, but it would be replaced with genuine feelings of respect and kindness. Over time. Be patient with the old man, ok? It's tough being a teenage girl.

After he heals from the surgery and is cleared from the hospital he would visit his own grave. It's nothing like the fancy grave he would have wanted. It's pitiful. It's hated. There are no flowers or incense laid for him. No tears, no mourners. He goes alone and rests by himself. With his head clear, he is able to better piece together the situation. His son must have been killed in his body, after having been in Iris's body and trapped him in it. From then on he is able to backtrack and realize the chain of deaths.

I am not sure exactly how I would write it or when I would piece it together, but he would obviously write legal documents saying that his entire wealth goes to Iris, not "Saito." Of course his idiot son (affectionate) would have ruined some of his plans by referring to Date as his son (weird...) but I'm sure So would be able to pull some strings and get that fixed. A lovely disowning of Saito, aka Date's body, after he has already died thanks to the help of some legal experts at the Kumakuras. They'd do anything Iris says. (I would also absolutely love to write how So has to deal with the social aspects of being Iris, such as with catcalling and flirting. I really REALLY want him to suffer and think about how he did the same with Manaka and how he was predatory. That man needs a massive wake-up call and get humbled.)

Uchikoshi jokingly said that So-Iris becomes Prime Minister in this ending, however I do genuinely believe that to be possible for him. But with an empty resume... it would be difficult. I think after all the legal things are sorted out and he is financially and socially "in the clear," he would go through the case files on the old and new Cyclops Killer. He has information that no one else would know, but he'd keep it to himself. Sneaky little old brat. However, after seeing Renju autopsy report and learning about the digested eyeball... he puts things together and realizes where Iris's eyeball must have been. In his body's stomach (he probably dgaf about Renju's eyeball in his tummy lmfao. but depending on when this realization happens he may freak out. or not. dunno if this will be pre or post character development). In other words, this is where I am unsure on the formatting of events in my fic.

I mention Iris's spirit backseating him through life in the tags of the original post. I am serious about that. One of Iris's special interests is Egyptian mythology and when she has her lovely infodump to Date on the eye of Horus (Wadjet), she mentions that Thoth returns his eye to him after it had been ripped out. Interesting... I imagine that when So returns to his grave once more (or for the first time depending on the timeline of events) and realizes that Iris's missing eye is there, he will somehow connect with her spirit and gain knowledge of timelines or full understanding of what happened to him. Honestly I am too lazy to rewrite what I have already written in this post, but I think the autopsy report and the realization will be what pushes him to his grave and where he will have this whole enlightenment on what he has to live for. In a way, Iris's spirit will be like his Aiba in that she will guide him on what to do and chastise him for being mean to her friends. But she won't always appear probably, just from time to time. Not sure if she'll be "real" or more of a metaphorical guidance or subconscious. Once he understands 100% of things in the body swap fiasco he will be more at peace with himself, but then become more curious about Date's true body.

This leads him to Boss. I feel like he'd completely mess up and refer to her as Shizue without her having told him her name. At this point perhaps Wink Psync would have been a thing (he would refuse regular Psyncs claiming that it would be bad because of the tumor or that he just didn't feel comfortable). In Wink Psyncs the subject basically always appears as themselves and not as a colorful figure, however since his sense of self is so messed-up I imagine that his self would be separate from Iris in his internal thoughts. She may be hanging out in his subconscious, but she would not be the "doer" in his memories. I want Ryuki to Wink Psync him (Psywink, if you will) and become suspicious of his mind. This will lead to him realizing that Iris's consciousness is actually that of So Sejima and that the real Iris is dead. Strangely, I would love to write this to be something confidential between the two and that So would confess the whole situation to him. Eventually. I am not sure and would need to plan this out significantly more.

Not sure how I would write the arc of the other characters realizing who he actually is, or if every character would even know. It would be cruel to not inform Hitomi, but at the same time it would be horrific to just not tell her that her daughter's consciousness is dead and she just exists now as a spirit occasionally backseating her father's puppeteering of her body. That's kind of terrifying actually. I feel like if the reveal were to happen then I would want it to be So himself who tells her. His development would show when he willingly confesses that happened to her, and that while he may not be her daughter, he is genuinely grateful for how kind she has been to him. That in the fake relationship they had as mother and daughter he came to realize how horrible of a parental figure he was, and how it was completely his fault for what happened to Manaka. I imagine that Hitomi would freak out and go to hit him, and he'll brace for impact, but Iris's bullshit spirit powers (lmfao) would happen and they'll reconcile somehow. I don't know, this is a super messy outline. It'll happen. Through the power of friendship.

With everyone knowing about the situation he'll become a Psyncer while taking college classes. He knows the information already, he just needs the credentials. Or perhaps he will become a Psyncer before the grand reveal. I really don't know. No clue what to make as his AI-Ball though or if it would be Iris in a strange way. This is what I am iffiest about. It feels like squeezing too much into too little while simultaneously stretching out what could have been a one-shot into a larger multi-chapter project. It will be a long time before it comes out but it definitely needs so much refining.

So, in other words, here is a rewrite of my messy outline. this rewrite is also incredibly messy, but I don't want to delete what I have already written. The main key points/arcs:

So Sejima gets humbled bad and scared out of his mind when he realizes his body is dead and framed as the killer. He hallucinates Manaka and is terrified.

He submits legal documents which gives him access to all his previous wealth, therefore paying for his own treatment. I imagine him being in the hospital right after waking up and realizing he is stuck in Iris's body... and then realizing that he had met with Hitomi a few days earlier to discuss Iris's treatment. And then freak out so bad and start screaming until he faints again. Hahaha, loser.

After his surgery, he'll try to peace together the case and therefore goes through all known reports. He'll realize the thing about the eyes and go to visit his grave. I think the reason he didn't go visit the grave on his own earlier was because it was dangerous for him to be by himself for health reasons, and because obviously Hitomi wouldn't take him and he wouldn't want to ask Date to take him. I think once he is reunited with his (Iris's) eyeball (not in a literal sense. ew) then he will 100% understand what happened to her and to him, and then maybe sometimes get brief flashes of other timelines in his subconscious. I think he'll have dreams with her in them and that's when they'd interact, not that her spirit is exactly as she was in life, but more of an all-knowing guide that is still her. I'll figure out her characterization somehow.

After he pieces everything together he may reveal all the information to Boss, obviously not saying that he is actually So, but perhaps implying that So was killed in Renju's body or something. He'll find some way to BS out of being the main suspect of Renju's murder or blame it on the occult. But he'll slip-up and refer to her as "Shizue," which leads to Ryuki's suspicion. He plays it off as a joke, but then she legitimately offers him a position as a Psyncer, citing his detective skills and growing legal prowess as perfect for the job. He accepts, realizing that it would be much better for Iris's resume, and gets his own AI-Ball. He'll confess to the AI Ball his true identity, but the ball would probably be chill about it and not report him. Ryuki eventually finds out, but they end up becoming friends. Eventually his identity is revealed but they're not shocked. I think Boss will say that she had her suspicions but they were confirmed when he called her Shizue. This all becomes a huge ABIS secret. Date is mad af but this isn't about him (affectionate).

He confesses everything to Hitomi on his own when they're celebrating his AI-Ball surgery. I think she would be in the middle of gushing of how proud she is of "her" and that she was shocked at her change in career paths (quitting Idol work and streaming), but is so happy to see "her" happy again. Unable to keep up the ruse, and also due to his own growth and development, he confesses to her the truth: he is not Iris. In a fury, and in shock, she nearly attacks him, but somehow Iris's spirit intervenes and they reconcile. They are no longer mother and daughter, but they both gain a mutual sense of respect. (Again, this is one of the weakest parts of the outline and needs a lot of development. Maybe he'll move out to be closer to college/ABIS and when they meet again she'll have accepted him)

I think afterwards there will be a timeskip where Osiris is almost done with their college degree and is a well-respected Psyncer. They're planning how to approach their run for office (probably aiming for a lower position) and go to visit So's grave to think. But there is someone ominously standing in front of his grave. He is mumblings things that make no sense, but once his AI-Ball scans him and Iris's spirit feels some sort of recognition... Osiris realizes the person standing in front of his grave is none other than Uru Somezuki.

And that would be the dramatic cliffhanger. Sorry. Don't know if I would write the events of AINI to have actually happened or not, or if he somehow convinces him to stop before it even happens, but overall that is where the plot of the fic would end. So realizes how horrible he was as a person, grows (to everyone's shock), and is recognized as someone who isn't Iris, but also not exactly So Sejima. It won't end with him becoming Prime Minister, but it would still be his end goal.
