people will watch a woman have her finger cut off because her boyfriend's husband has demanded that he kill her as a show of contrition and conclude that she is the villain in this scenario.
#amcwtv#i was being glib earlier but no I really do want to know if antoinette is supposed to be Like That because we are in Louis' pov#over the past two months I have watched three tv shows and IWTV is my favourite and also indisputably the worst one#oh wait I take that back#i have watched four tv shows#(so many for me! ok rings of power was indisputably the worst one)#but I'm scrubbing that from my memory#house of the dragons gave their loathsome cartoon villains more interiority and better character writing than Antoinette gets#like the rapist who likes to watch children fight to the death for his amusement#gets more in the way of an inner life than antoinette#minor villains on severance#whose motives are deliberately obscured to the audience#and come across and warped exercises in confusing sadism to their amnesiac victims#are nevertheless written in a way that conveys to the audience that they do the things they do for reasons that make sense to them#the trick with limited pov reveals is that the story should work on its own and then be enhanced by the extra information#and this doesn't! at least not for me#On a side note I was shocked and offended by how much I loved house of the dragon and I still am#it pleasantly surprised me on basically every count#can't wait for them to fumble and break my heart
