Thought these pictures were cute. The ram didn't even get up, just laid there while the lamb played with his horns. . Male bighorns and female bighorns mostly stay apart except for breeding. The female lambs will stay with their mother's lady-herd and the males, after a couple years, leave their mom's herd and join a group of bachelors. . When I saw these guys along the road, a big group of males were laying on one side and a smaller group with one ram (the one in these pictures) on the other side. He's the older dominant one and the lamb (maybe a yearling) is probably his son. Kind of just guessing, though. . Oh, and sometimes you'll hear bighorns called "rocky mountain" "desert" or "sierra nevada," but those are just regional variations of a single species. . Anyway, their coats are looking pretty rough right now, but still, I think one of the most interesting looking animals. .
