Dag! So I figured I’d start with Izar’s alphabet just so y’all know what to expect in regards to pronunciation:
Izar alphabet
Aa - [ä]
Ää - [æ]
Bb - [b]
Cc - [x]
Dd - [d]
Ee - [e~ɛ]
Ff - [f]
Gg - [g]
Hh - [h]
Ii - [i~ɪ]
Jj - [j]
Kk - [k]
Ll - [l]
Mm - [m]
Nn - [n], [ŋ] before k, g, c, or x
Oo - [o~ɔ]
Öö - [ə]
Pp - [p]
Rr - [r~ɾ]
Ss - [s]
Tt - [t]
Uu - [u~ʊ]
Vv - [v]
Ww - [w]
Xx - [ɣ]
Yy - [ɨ]
Ýý - [ʉ]
Zz - [z]
Åå - [ɒ]
A few notes: E, i, o, and u are typically more closed [e i o u] if in an open syllable or if only followed by one consonant, but more open [ɛ ɪ ɔ ʊ] if in a closed syllable or followed by more than one consonant. This actually makes words ending in those vowels + one consonant unpredictable - as a common feature of Germanic languages that Izar lacks is differing between long and short vowels, often by the number of consonants following a vowel. This also means that doubled consonants (and, also, vowels) will rarely appear, except in compound words. Also, <c> represents Nordic soft <k> and <kj>, along with West Germanic <ch>, and <x> represents Nordic soft <g> and <gj>.
And yes, Izar is both North and West Germanic. However, it has a lot of Icelandic influence, shown by both its grammar *and* some of its words. There is also some Dutch influence, but most of the foreign language influence on Izar is Icelandic.
With that being said - it has two standard dialects! Northeastern and Southwestern. Northeastern Izar contains more Nordic words, whereas Southwestern Izar contains more West Germanic words. For nouns, that can mean that the gender of a noun changes (yes there is grammatical gender!), but not the actual word itself.
Hopefully that gives you all enough insight on what to expect from how words are spelled! :D
Also here’s the previous Izar post.

Pronunciation things
So I can't possibly explain everything, but I'll mention a couple things
Generally we have more like, easy to understand letters than English. "a" is only "a" not "ai". But "o" is both "o" and "å".
There are some diphtongs:
ei, øy, au - most common
ai, oi and eu - less common
There are some ch type sounds:
kj, ky, ki, sj, skj, ski, sky
most of those are different I think
There's also gj which is basically English J I think maybe
If there's a double consonant that usually means the vowel is short. (this has exceptions). And the same in reverse.
blod (no) has a long o (means blood)
Bakke (no) has a short a (means hill)
We're not french so we pronounce letters at the end of our words even if they're vocals.
Norwegian alphabet almost explained
a = ah = a as in arc
b = b
c (we don't use this much)
d = d
e = e = e as in end
f = f
g = g (can be not pronounced)
h = h
i = ee = ee as in been
j = weak j idk = y as in yes
k = k
L = L
m = m
n = n
o = o (1) or å (2) where idk what 1 is actually and 2= o as in not or morning
p = p
q (we don't use this much)
r = r (there are two versions: "skarre r" and "rulle r", idk the difference but some people care a lot, I think it depends on dialect though so it's probably fine whichever you use)
s = s
t = t
u = o = o as in to or ue as in blue
v = v
w (we don't use this much)
x (we don't use this much)
y = y = y as in penny
z (we don't use this much)
æ = ae idk = au as in laugh
ø = uh = u as in blunt
å = o = o as in not or morning

July - September 2023 | Reading Wrap Up
[Jan-March] [April-June]
Autumn is here, and with it, my summery wrap up! And speaking of summer... Here is my recap of Forgotten YA Gems' V Summer Bingo Reading Challenge, complete with fancy card. As usual, I loved it. I love a good literary bingo ;)
Note: Our beloved Forgotten YA Gems group, after several years of joyful activity, has closed its door on the Goodreads group, but is still active in Discord, for those of you who might be interested!
And now, onto the wrap up!
Code: books read in English are in black, books read in Spanish are in red and the book I read in French is in blue.
JULY (8)
Los hombres no son islas. Los clásicos nos ayudan a vivir - Nuccio Ordine, translation into Spanish by Jordi Bayod
A Lady by Midnight (Spindle Cove #3) - Tessa Dare -> 3/5
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen -> 5/5
Historias d’antis más de Biscarrues - Ed. Sandra Araguás [Only available in Spanish] -> 3/5
The Magpie Lord (A Charm of Magpies #1) - KJ Charles -> 3.5/5
Whose Body? (Lord Peter Wimsey #1) - Dorothy L. Sayers -> 3/5
A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon - Sarah Hawley -> 3/5
Tintin in America (Tintin #3) - Hergé, translation into English by Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper & Michael Turner -> 2.5/5
July was fun. Nuccio Ordine's philosophical analysis of the importance of classical books for the humanisation of our society was perhaps not fun, but it was surprisingly less dry than I expected it to be. Some good romances came along afterwards, as well as a collection of local myths and stories from Spain, a murder mystery, and my first Tintin! I'd had it aroung for years, it was part of a present from many years ago when my English wasn't yet good enough to read it and then I just never got around to it until this summer... Overall, nothing exceedingly remarkable (except for my dearly beloved P&P), but good vibes in the melting heat.
AUGUST (7)
Flight 714 to Sydney (Tintin #22) - Hergé, translation into English by Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper & Michael Turner -> 2/5
Cigars of the Pharaoh (Tintin #4) - Hergé, translation into English by Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper & Michael Turner -> 3/5
Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism - Amanda Montell -> 4.5/5
The Blue Lotus (Tintin #5) - Hergé, translation into English by Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper & Michael Turner -> 3/5
Broderies - Marjane Satrapi -> 3/5
The Near Witch - Victoria Schwab -> 3.5/5
Murder in the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot #9) - Agatha Christie -> 4.5/5
August was good! More Tintin (I have now finished all of the comics I had lying around in my parents' house), an amazing non-fiction book on linguistics by Amanda Montell (she also wrote Wordslut, which I loved, so clearly her writing is quite up my alley and I can't wait for her to publish her third book), a very good spooky story by Victoria Schwab, another autobiographical graphic novel by Marjane Satrapi that I hadn't read yet, and my first time reading Murder in the Orient Express in English (although the book itself I've read like six times). Can't complain.
SEPTEMBER (3)
The Secret Service of Tea and Treason (Dangerous Damsels #3) - India Holton -> 4/5
Prosa completa - Alejandra Pizarnik -> 1/5
Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold (Stephen Fry’s Great Mythology #1) - Stephen Fry -> 4/5
Welllllll apparently what I need to sit down and read is horrifying heatwaves because my September reading went down a notch. Alejandra Pizarnik's complete prose was absolute horrific, derailed my entire month, and I'll never get close to her writings ever again, but the other two were very good at least! And I was definitely entertained.
And thus another three months have gone by... I am not particularly close to reaching all of my reading goals, but I am also doing better than I was this time last year so I shall count it as a win. We'll see what the last quarter of the year holds!
A couple of last-minute links:
The Lesbrary is looking for reviewers!
I am asking for Portuguese-written book recs!
How was your summer reading?

The pages in this category are redirects from names that are unsuitable for inclusion in a printed version of Wikipedia. To add a redirect to this category, place {{Rcat shell|{{R unprintworthy}}}} on the second new line (skip a line) after #REDIRECT [[Target page name]]. For more information follow the links. Never substitute redirect template(s), nor place them on soft redirects.
See also the complete list of redirect templates and the redirect style guide.
This is a maintenance category, used for maintenance of the Wikipedia project. It is not part of the encyclopedia and contains non-article pages, or groups articles by status rather than subject. Do not include this category in content categories.
This is a tracking category. It builds and maintains a list of pages primarily for the sake of the list itself. They are not part of the encyclopedia's categorization scheme.
This category is hidden on its member pages—unless the corresponding user preference (appearance → show hidden categories) is set.
These categories can be used to track, build and organize lists of pages needing "attention en masse" (for example, pages using deprecated syntax), or that may need to be edited at someone's earliest convenience.
These categories also serve to aggregate members of several lists or sub-categories into a larger, more efficient list (discriminated by classifications).
"Unprintworthy" redirects are redirect pages on Wikipedia that aid online navigation, but would have little or no value as pointers to target articles in a hard-copy book. The name of a redirect may be unprintworthy for a number of reasons, including being nearly identical to the name of the target page, containing typographical errors, or not being encyclopaedic. Redirects are not unprintworthy just because the name may be offensive to some, unless the name is also not encyclopaedic.

Basically, there are 360 symbols assigned phonetic value from either English vowels/diphthongs or consonants/consonant clusters, numbers range from 0-359.
I have no idea how to make a table for that, but here's a link to a Google Doc with all the symbols numbered. Note that /ʔ/ is a "zero" character.

Five editions of the Forgotten YA Gems' annual Summer Reading Bingo Challenge have gone by, and I'm proud to announce I've completed them all! Granted, this last edition I managed to finish the last day half an hour before the stroke of midnight BUT a win is a win and we take them all ;)
Overall, it was a good way to tackle my TBR, force myself slightly out of my comfort zone, stretchhhhh the prompts and my imagination until their very limits (whooops at the pink cover prompt, I swear it does have some pink in it), and get some pages in among the summer sun. And the books were good too! The average was more or less 3.5/5 I would say.
Here you can see my fancy edited card, and below the cut you'll find the complete list of prompts and books read for each:
Tumblr media
• New to you author: Una furtiva lágrima - Nélida Piñon, translation into Spanish by Roser Vilagrassa [Not available in English] -> 1.5/5 • Heard about it online: A Week to Be Wicked (Spindle Cove #2) - Tessa Dare -> 3/5 • Fantasy: A Witch's Guide to Fake Dating a Demon (Glimmer Falls #1) - Sarah Hawley -> 3/5 • #ownvoices: Supersaurio - Meryem El Mehdati [Not available in English] -> 3.5/5 • LGBTQ+: The Magpie Lord (A Charm of Magpies #1) - KJ Charles -> 3.5/5 • Mystery/thriller: Whose Body? (Lord Peter Wimsey #1) - Dorothy L. Sayers -> 3/5 • Buddy read: Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen -> 5/5 • Has a cat in it: Historias d’antis más en Biscarrués - Ed. Sandra Araguás [Not available in English] -> 3/5 • Recommended to you: Cultish: The Language of Fanaticism - Amanda Montell -> 4.5/5 • Pink or orange cover: A Lady by Midnight (Spindle Cove #3) - Tessa Dare -> 3/5 • Author of colour: Broderies - Marjane Satrapi [Available in English as Embroideries] -> 3/5 • Made into a film: Murder in the Orient Express (Hercule Poirot #10) - Agatha Christie -> 4.5/5 • Retelling/adaptation: Emoji Pride and Prejudice: Epic Tales in Tiny Texts - Chuck Gonzales & Katherine Furman -> 3/5 • YA Gems BOTM: The Near Witch - Victoria Schwab -> 3.5/5 • On TBR forever: Gods of Jade and Shadow - Silvia Moreno-García -> 3.5/5 • Someone else's favourite: Los hombres no son islas. Los clásicos nos ayudan a vivir - Nuccio Ordone, translation by Jordi Bayod [Not available in English] -> I decided not to rate this one. Overall positive experience, but just as with The Madwoman in the Attic (by Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar), I feel like I lack sufficient knowledge about some of the literature mentioned to judge the analysis.
Yes, I read P&P twice during this challenge... No one say anything.
As usual, if someone wants to chat about any of those books I'm more than happy to, just send me a message or reblog this post or answer this post or send me smoke signals or... Your call :P
How was your summer reading?

Digital Citizenship: Navigating a Complex Landscape
Digital citizens, as defined by Lu et al. (2023), engage in networked participatory behaviors, encompassing individual, policy, political, and social participation. It emphasizes equality in knowledge transmission, promoting responsible behavior, ethical awareness, and empathy (Jessenia et al. 2020). Initially centered on norms, digital citizenship has evolved into online engagement, with citizens actively responding to public issues, especially through social media (Jones & Mitchell 2016). Twitter, a powerful platform, plays a pivotal role in citizen engagement, shaping public discourse with hashtags like #gop, #gop2012, and #republicanprimary during the 2012 US elections (Campos-Domínguez 2017).
Tumblr media
The Evolving Notion of Digital Citizenship
The concept of digital citizenship is crucial in the rapidly evolving online landscape, blending traditional citizenship values with the digital realm (Oyedemi 2018). It expands traditional citizenship principles, focusing on accountability, moral conduct, and public participation, fostering a sense of shared responsibility within the digital space. Multifaceted in nature, digital citizenship involves staying secure online, understanding threats, using technology responsibly, and educating individuals for conscious digital navigation (Christensen, Biseth & Huang 2021).
Platform Studies, Hashtag Publics, and Political Participation
Platform studies delve into the technological and cultural aspects of digital platforms, exploring how they integrate into our lives (Neto & Chiarini 2022). Hashtag publics, emerging from social media, serve as dynamic spaces for activism and communication around shared interests. Political participation in the digital age extends beyond traditional boundaries, encompassing staying informed, active discourse, and using platforms to advocate for social and political issues.

Challenges and Opportunities in Digital Citizenship
While digital citizenship encapsulates safety, education, platform dynamics, hashtag activism, and political participation, it faces challenges from competitors, economic fluctuations, and changing consumer preferences. However, embracing these complexities with awareness and accountability fosters a supportive, active online community in the digital age. This intricate web of digital citizenship principles navigates the diverse ways individuals engage with the internet, creating a roadmap for responsible online conduct
