“P, hurry up! I told them we’d be there by six and it’s quarter to!” Stephanie’s high pitched squeal called from somewhere deep within her and Palmer’s shared apartment, making the boy cringe as he covered his head with a snapback. He let out a deep breath and looked at himself in the mirror, admiring his clothing choice of dark black skinnies and a plain black tee which was covered by a red flannel. "Palmer!” Stephanie’s voice grew closer and soon enough she was standing in the doorway to their shared room, her pudgy face red with annoyance. “Wow, don’t you clean up nice,” she chimed, waltzing into the room with a smug grin on her lips. The petite blonde stretched up on her tippy toes and struggled to press a wet kiss to Palmer’s cheek, as he did everything to casually pull away and avoid it. “Are you ready?” Steph purred, her eyes glazed over as she looked at him. Palmer nodded silently and grabbed his phone off the dresser, his eyes making one final glance to the mirror. “Yeah,” he mumbled, “Let’s go.”
From the get-go, Palmer knew this whole “double date” idea was awful. Bowling, in his mind, was a shitty excuse to get out of the house. But with Stephanie being so god damn persistent about meeting up with one of her high school friends, the boy had no choice but to give in. It wasn’t even like he had the excuse of having a hockey practice, for they fell on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and this happened to be a Friday night. When they arrived at the small, remote bowling alley somewhere deep within Manhattan, Palmer was already eager to leave and hit the gym -- anything that would get him away from the peppy blonde beside him who hadn’t stopped jabbering on about her day at work sounded like heaven. “Can you please act a little interested, P? Please? For me?” She sighed as they stepped into the bowling alley, his head barely giving a nod as his eyes scanned the scarcely populated place. Suddenly, Stephanie’s loud, obnoxious squeal flooded his ears and he felt the blonde’s hand tear away from his, her hair flailing behind her as she ran across the room to a brunette he couldn’t get a good view of. Growing closer, his eyes slowly centred in on the girl who could only be Stephanie’s old best friend and his heart clenched: she was stunning.
