What is happiness?
Writing to alleviate these swelled-up feelings
Happiness is easy to define. According to Wikipedia:
“Happiness is a mental or emotional state of well-being defined by positive or pleasant emotions ranging from contentment to intense joy. Happy mental states may also reflect judgements by a person about their overall well-being.”
Go a bit deeper into science and you’ll read about hormones and other complicated shit. But that’s not the point of this post.
I want it specific. I want to know what your happiness is. I just suddenly had the urge. Maybe because I sensed that something is somewhat off. I don’t know. I can’t fully explain. It’s my intuition again. (Disclaimer: My intuition is damn accurate. But at the very few times that it’s wrong, it’s very wrong.) Hence, I ask the question about happiness. Even if we don’t know what causes this “off” that I sense, with good reason or without, what’s important is moving forward to that state of happiness, perhaps solving the “off” in the process.
It would be easy to try to go about life, but my intuition begs me to give it attention. To write it out to make more sense. Again, I don’t know why. We couldn’t just understand it fully, I guess. Perhaps this is also why I’m more drawn to analyzing the aura that emanates from people.
Fine, Intuition. You win this round. (Though it seems that you always do.) Next time, I’ll give you a nickname.
What makes you happy
I have a few things in mind. But they are not within our realms of possibility as we speak. They will be done but it requires patience. We’re talking $$ or more financial independence here. (Sigh) We can be a lot more creative with how to tackle this, but that’s still that. Who ever said money can’t buy happiness? Bummer. I wanna win the lottery right now. Can somebody just give me 6 million dollars now?
But beyond that, I know there are things much more personal where money is not currently an object. I know from personal experience. Even if we may not be all that similar, there are things, that require not much spending, that makes us happy.
I know I’m happy when I achieve a certain work or study goal. I’m happy when I can see that I can change the world. I’m happy when I rest up at a good hotel - whether in bed or tub - totally paid for by my firm. I’m happy when I read a funny 9gag post. I’m happy when I could help a friend. I’m happy when somebody gives me gifts, a caring touch, words of encouragement or wisdom or gratitude. Heck, I’m happy when somebody gives me money. I’m happy when I see a puppy or a kitten. I’m happier when I see people taking care of that puppy or kitten. I’m happy when my mom, dad, my-favorite-aunt, sister, or brother is happy. But I’m happiest when you’re around, when you’re close to me, when you smile and look happy.
What are those that make you happy? Because I want to make you happy as much as I can. My guts tell me that that’s the only way I can be happiest - when you’re happy.
