Story Idea I had while watch ‘The One and Only Ivan’.

TROLL CIRCUS AU

Trolls were not only a source of edible happiness for the Bergens. They were also entertainment.

A Bergen named Ivan saw profit in the Trolls natural ability to sing and dance at any time. So, with the King’s permission, he started his own circus act.

IVAN’S TROLL CIRCUS. Best in Troll Performances featuring song, dance & other talented feats.

(Something along that line anyway)

And after 30 years he decides to replace the old troop with a new one. So, just before Trollstice, he takes all but 1 back to the Troll Tree for Trollstice and selects a whole new troop consisting of 13 Trolls. They are...

These 13 + 1 Trolls end up being the last in Bergen Town after the Trolls made a shocking escape during Trollstice. The Trolls in the circus normally would have been eaten, but since it has been a reknown attraction for so long, the King allows the circus to go on untouched. Chef is still banished.

Your probably wondering why the Trolls, specifically Peppy, still left Bergen Town?

King Peppy had no choice but to leave his daughter and the other trollings behind in order to save the whole tribe. This was obviously very hard for him, but he had no choice since the circus was on the other side of Bergen Town and he had no way to get to them.

Years pass and the old king of Bergen Town disappears leaving Gristle as the new king. King Gristle often has Ivan’s circus give private performances to keep him entertained.

The circus Trolls grow up and improve their individual crafts and their singing and dancing under the guidance of Clover, not that they had much choice. You see, the old king made a deal with Ivan. As long as the Trolls in his circus keep entertaining all of Bergen Town, they won’t be eaten. The moment they stop ... they go to the kitchens.

20 years after the last Trollstice, Ivan’s circus and the Trolls are not doing well. Bergen’s are getting tired of the same acts they perform and are losing interest. In a desperate attempt to save his money maker, Ivan leaves Bergen Town to find a new attraction to save his circus. He manages to find it...

(Now, I figured I could use 2 different characters for this, can’t decide who. Who should I use? If you think I can use someone else, love to hear who!)

Barb: The Wild Woman (Parb/Sideshow/Singer)

Prince D: Doubles up with Cooper (Family reunion/ Funk Fam rescue/Broppy)

The new Troll however is not working out.

They refuse to perform and play the part, putting the entire troop at risk. When the new troll messes up a private performance for King Gristle, he is very upset and orders them to be served up on a new re-instated Trollstice. That’s when Chef arrives to ask for forgiveness *Overthrow the king* and reveals that she not only found the missing trolls but found out there are more trolls beyond the forest. Enough trolls, in fact, to keep Trollstice going for 1000 years or more.

This causes King Gristle to order Chef & other Bergen’s to gather up all the Trolls, much to the horror and shock of the troop.

Okay it’s new world tour theories time

!Warning for spoilers!

it’s long so I’ll put it all under the cut :)c

Basic things real quick that have been painted out for us

- there are two versions of the history of strings: the one peppy gives, and I’m assuming the one the rock trolls know (the true one). I’m assuming this story will show some of Barb’s motivations

- branch has accepted his crush on poppy but she thinks of him as a friend. im expecting there to be some good running gags of branch trying to confess/ask her out and he gets interrupted 

- branch and poppy have some kind of fallout 

- branch is for using force; poppy wants to go for a softer, more diplomatic approach 

- barb ends up getting all the strings and turning each kingdom leader into “rock zombies” during her rock show

- barb is ultimately redeemed in the end and gets a tall colorful mohawk 

SO THAT BEING SAID. theres a lot of meat missing from these bones...and I wanna throw out some theories regarding the meat lol

For the true story of the strings, I’m gonna guess that it’s going to talk about how Peppy’s version of the story is wrong/misleading. I’m gonna guess that it’s either barb or thrash telling this story...and I’m thinking it’s going to talk about the falling out of the kingdoms, particularly with the rock trolls. maybe peppy’s original story will talk about how the kingdoms just naturally didnt get along and decided to split off amiably to live in their own respective kingdoms away from each other. and the ACTUAL story could be that they all DID get along together, until pop and rock started to antagonize each other, which lead to general unrest in the kingdoms. more and more conflict eventually lead to the kingdoms splitting, and the blame was placed on the rock trolls and their rowdy nature. im thinking they suffered some sort of consequence as a result...but im not sure what! something bad enough to make barb want to destroy all other types of music.

with branch’s crush and the fallout between him and poppy....i feel like this is really up in the air. my strongest instinct tells me that dreamworks will kinda take the common route and have poppy eventually break out of her obliviousness and give branch a shot, go ahead and go on a date with him. BUT...i feel like theres also the possibility, given that Goodbye song that was cut and dreamworks deleting that pic showing the breakup, that branch will eventually get the opportunity to confess his feelings and poppy will insist that she just wants to be friends. this will make branch angry, he’ll impulsively start a fight with poppy, and they’ll part ways (resulting in poppy getting snatched by the rock trolls and branch by the reggaeton/kpop trolls). after spending time away from each other, branch will come to terms with poppy’s decision, getting encouragement from the reggaeton/kpop trolls to be happy and grateful to have the platonic relationship he does have with poppy, and go off to save her at the rock show with their help. unlikely, yeah, but...something I would prefer over the traditional ending of them coupling up tbh.

okay, with branch wanting to use weapons and force and poppy wanting to use persuasion/affection...I feel like this is more than just a gag. when poppy says “all we need are [this arm and this arm]...for hugs!” i feel like this could be foreshadowing for both how their adventure is gonna go and how they ultimately get barb on their side. branch is going to insist on using force to get out of predicaments, but in the end it will be poppy’s more pacifist methods of persuasion and group song that solve their problems. I think branch will also be less willing to trust the other trolls from other kingdoms...both of these will start causing a divide between him and poppy as it wears on them both. however, I think when theyre finally getting around to defeating barb, it’ll be love and diplomacy from poppy that wins her over. seems like something that the rock trolls dont encounter that much, and it might be what barb actually wanted all along :0c

WHICH BRINGS ME TO..barb’s redemption and new look!! barb’s pre-redemption look reminds me a lot of pre-true colors branch? her roots and base of her hair is really dark, her mohawk is short in comparison to the other rock trolls’ long hair, shes shown to be prickly and grouchy, and has dark purplish-grey skin. she also has like....a kinda awkward grin lol? BUT her end-of-movie look has her mohawk tall, rainbow hair (with some black because yeah rock troll lol), a big ol grin, and lighter pink skin. so im thinkingggg she has some sort of true-colors moment with poppy after maybe some kind of sad backstory moment? if crazy train is the finale song for barb, those lyrics are like...pretty sad tbh? and would make for a great backstory for barb with her motivations and why her appearance is so gloomy and greyish like branch was. my biggest wonder with all of this is what exactly the root of her sadder state is (something to do with her ear maybe??) and how exactly poppy gets to a point with barb where they talk things out and get to the point where barb is redeemable and accepted by the other trolls after basically pillaging through their kingdoms. gonna be a big one to pull off!! and i cant wait!!!

SO YEAH thats all i got rn! april 17th cant come soon enough...dreamworks ill settle for more barb clips ovo also. this is just me but parb endgame would be incredible lmao

Dhrubatara highlights 3a/?

Another important sequence, and I am very pleased with how it is executed. Agni's Tara! And its effect. 

Moments before the Sindoor daan, Tara hears Agni calling her name. Her eyes snap open, and her head, slowly but surely inching down towards the sindoor jhanpi; moves back into a neutral position.

Dhruba frowns when he hears that voice, but then his brows straighten. He had been expecting this, yes. A test for Tara, a way for him to challenge her strength. He is far from happy at the interruption but he knows that it wouldn't change anything.

He drops the tikli  maangtika, halting the marriage proceedings. He knows that the Sindoor daan won't happen unless Tara processes the situation.

Processing part one: Face flooded with joy (and relief too). Her Agni, her saviour, is here. First course of action is running to Agni.

Yeah. Not happening Tara. It is so rough, the way he handles her. Just pulls her towards him, his expression shifting from anger to questioning her attempt to leave the mandap - as if to ask, Are you planning on leaving, Tara? Can you even do that?

Everything about Tara's expression screams about her surprise at being pulled back. Moments before, her body was on autopilot, rushing to Agni. It takes her a while to adjust to the situation.

((puro sequence ta Maa er samne hobe ar ami seta miss kore chole jabo, hote pare na)). Not only is this a beautiful scene, but this also serves for an interlude between the two scenes. This moments reminds us viewers, that these two are sitting in a mandap.  He is the groom, and she, the bride.

Processing part two: begging him to let her go. Whether she genuinely thinks that he does have a heart and he will understand her pain or just trying her luck with him is an question. What is more important, is that she doesn't want to escape the marriage, she just wants to meet Agni, for one last time. To explain things? Unlikely. To make one, last good memory, one she will cherish forever? Maybe.

Dhruba decides to quicken the process. I love the way he makes things very clear for her. If she leaves, then she wouldn't be able to return to him. Ever. It surprises Tara, because she hadn't expected this reaction. He doesn't say that she can't leave, only that she wouldn't be able to come back once she leaves this marriage ceremony. The shift in her expression is beautifully portrayed, that straightening of her brows, the way her iris moves, as if searching his face for a clear answer.

She hadn't expected him to be this cruel. There is a flicker of disbelief, before understanding sets in. She is marrying him to save her family, sacrificing her whole life, and he wouldn't even let her have this tiny little thing? Just one moment, that's all she needs. One last moment with Agni, before everything changes for the worst.

Parb breakup

Barb why have you been acking like this could you just talk to me please !? . Poppy said trying to get barb's attention any way she could but barb didn't say a word she just kept on walking but poppy still didn't give up still trying her best to get her best friend's attention any way possible . ugh just talk to me Barbara ! Barb still didn't say nothing she didn't care at all it was like nobody was talking to her fine be that way all I do is wanna talk to you but no you just wanna be a big fat jerk ! The pop Queen said leaving barb . YOU WANNA KNOW WHY I'VE BEEN ACKING LIKE THIS IS BECAUSE I LIKE YOU !!!!! barb yelled out loud everyone looked at her in shock even poppy who had nothing else to say . I like you but it seems you like someone else it's fine I'm perfectly fine to see some that I loved with some else I'm jealous I'm scared of losing you it's not fair ! Tears stared to fall down her face she became to walk off crying not looking back . Poppy now knew all this time barb liked her but she was hiding it all this time poppy felt sad for barb . Barb wait I'm sorry I didn't me- JUST SAVE IT ! barb yelled not letting poppy finish her sentence all poppy could do was cry thinking adout all the everything I'm sorry barb I'm sorry poppy said with more tears falling down from her face .
