We've reached finally at the position of an unamended constitution which is actually amended in practise. Liberal democratic character of the Constitution has not been altered by amendments but, minorities are lynched, journalists are prosecuted or worse, killed. Lawyers are attacked for doing their professional duties, activists from civil society are thrown behind bars and the ED is unleashed against all. Then there is targeted prosecution for some and impunity for others. Abuse of criminal law has been raised to the level of a policy. You do not need a gun to be a terrorist. You can be thrown into jail for the thoughts in your mind. You, as a lawyer can argue a case in court and be thrown in jail...The legal profession is in danger. We all know what happened in the Delhi riots, Elgar Parishad and Bhima Koregaon cases; these cases represent the transformation of the victim into an accused in a Court of law by the use of UAPA.

গণ অধিকার পরিষদের ভূমিকা

গণ অধিকার পরিষদের ভূমিকা সমাজের বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। এই সংগঠনটি সমাজের অধিকার প্রতিষ্ঠায় কাজ করে থাকে। গণতন্ত্র, সুশাসন এবং মানবাধিকার সংরক্ষণে এটি বিশেষ ভূমিকা পালন করে।

সংগঠনের লক্ষ্য ও উদ্দেশ্য

The Bhima-Koregaon case is actually a plot by powerful Hindutva forces to save the embarrassment of its leaders who incited communal violence against the Dalit community as they celebrated their annual festival Elgar Parishad on 1 January 2018 at Bhima-Koregaon. Initially, a case was registered with Pune rural police against two Hindutva leaders. However, it was left in cold-storage and instead, a follower of one of the two accused, filed a ‘complaint case’ with the Pune urban police accusing the above-mentioned intellectuals of instigating the Dalits to violence. Consequently, a witch-hunt was launched. Nine of these well-known and committed activists and writers were sent to Pune jail, two others got interim relief from court, and I am still a ‘suspect.’ I’ve been raided twice by Pune urban police, who have been looking for ways to implicate me.
