I'm so glad I learned how to knit because otherwise I would not know about heel-flap socks, and I love how much deeper I'm able to make the heels with this method.
#gonna have a lovely pair of well-fitting socks#i just started into pattern alteration land#aka i've got chunky calves but very slender feet#so i decreased by an additional 12 stitches and have added a ribbing band + extra 1x1 ribbing on the arch#these are gonna fit SO WELL#seriously if you look at my nice commercial socks it's sad how ill-fitting they are#part of this is courtesy of the fact that cute patterned wool socks tend to be marketed towards women#and sized for a normal person#not a women's 12us/42+ EU#but it's sad how poorly fitting almost all of my boot socks are compared to the socks i am currently making#here's to hoping the yarn I made is touch enough to withstand wear and tear#(i think it will; it feels pretty wiry to work with)
