I took this back around the year 2000. I did a little Photoshop trickery with it, which I do now and again. I wanted to bring out the light of summer, which is importnt on a winter day.

Ever since I got interested in Photography, the biggest inspiration for my photography has always been Hideaki Hamada. Based in Osaka, Japan, Hamada is well known for his photos that he takes of portraits of people, and especially his photos he takes of his kids as they grew up.

Whilst he uses a Pentax 67ii for most of his work, I do try and replicate that same feeling that I get when I look at his photos. I get a sense of calmess, easiness and a sense of nostalgia when I look at them. Even though t's pretty hard replicating the look of film (He uses Portra 400) on digital, I try and do my best to get that same feeling when I go out and take photos.

Therefore, this has given me a great idea when it comes to doing my assignment. My main assignment 'Where in the world am I, and what stories I can tell?' wants me to develop a series of digital photographic images, that explore light and composition as tools to communicate concepts of place and personal stories. It also wants me to show me a story about where you connect to in Auckland, anywhere from your own home and backyard, to further afield.

Mr. Hamada mostly focuses on the stories told through people and what they do through actions and interations with objects and with other living beings. Especially on his family, as it brings him the most joy in photography. And it's the focus on his family (especially his children) is what made him famous around the world in the first place.

Therefore, I have decided to focus mostly on incorporating people in my photos. Doesn't have to faces shown, but parts of human interaction shown in most pictures. I think a lot of what makes my live bearable in Auckland is the people I see daily and that I have formed some kind of bond with. Same with food, food has been my love for most of my life, so I think I will focus on that for my project.

Of course, I would need to take account of peoples permissions of whether or not they want to be in the photo or not. I understand that not everyone wants to be in front of the camera, so I will need to find a solution to that.
