its funny to be an expert on the tumblr news du jour and realize just how often people making informative breakdown style posts of "here's everything you need to know" are getting major details just straight up wrong

#hi im a professional game dev with almost 10 years of unity experience #and every post ive seen on tunblr about the new unity fee has had at least one detail that made me pause and go #hm. well thats not quite true #these posts always scan with a lot of confidence/have an authoratative tone but theres always 1 or 2 things that just arent right #and its fine it doesnt really matter #people are successfully getting across the point that unity ceo is being shitty and greedy and pulling the rug out from under devs #which is the only part a layman really needs to understand #but i saw one post where someone was like 'i heard this will mostly only effect indie devs bc only indies use unity. is that true?'#and someone else replied 'no unity is as ubiqutous for game engines as chromium is for web browsers'#and i was like ok. unity isnt *just* used by indies but its an insane claim to imply that basically every studio uses it #but also it doesnt matter. i have bigger fires to deal w in the wake of this than making sure no one is ever wrong online
