10/25/16 - 12/31/16: Goodbye 2016, PGF (Shitty) Year In Review, Bring on 2017, A New Day Dawns: Rise of the Fallen.
Ahoy, Nation!
I am so anxious to put 2016 behind me, fitness-wise, that I am eschewing my usual multiple-post Year In Review series and instead, I’m going to wrap the whole thing up with this thing so that we can get cracking on what I have in store for a monster 2017.
I’ll keep this brief.
2016 was not a great 4th year for PGF. Granted, a lot of life curveballs were thrown Coach Pete’s way, but more than anything, I struggled a lot with trying to figure out what exactly I wanted to commit my energy and enthusiasm to, fitness-wise, and that dithering kept me from charging full speed in any one particular direction. Also, a lot of wonderful things happened outside of the gym, and that sapped my focus at times.
But, as the fifth (5th!) year of PGF approaches, I find myself as committed as ever to ascending to the peaks of physical greatness and attaining that drinking from that most elusive of chalices: beastdom.
In planning to wipe the slate clean and attack Year Five with renewed vigor, I’ve been looking back at what has worked best for me throughout the past four years of training. And that reflection has yielded a simple plan for the New Year, which I will post about next.
In Summation:
This year was not my best. But if I’ve learned one thing from this New Year’s Resolution run amok, it’s that my strength is nothing athletic, but a sort of annoying persistence. I’m a little fatter than I’d like to be at the moment, and pretty inflexible, and my conditioning sucks again. But four years later, I am still here.
Am I fit yet? No.
Shall we, as they say in meditation, “Begin Again?”
Why yes, we shall.
- Coach Pete
