I asked my DnD group who they wanted me to fill out the ever-classic Shirt Cut Meme with... they said I should draw our current party... and the rest, as they say, is history. 🤩 This was a large, multi-layered beast (seriously, please open this in full view), but so much fun to work on!

if there's one thing i want people to understand about Phoebe, it's that despite her cutesy bard-Barbie appearance, she is a weirdo crunchy country girl at heart. she was raised in an autonomous community bordering a Cursed Post-Imperial Gothic Horror Country by two lesbian hippies, one of whom is Aragorn if he were a butch halfling werebear, and the other of whom is an ex-plague doctor who grows weed. she's more than capable of designing and sewing her own ballgown for a fancy party, but absolutely does not know the difference between a salad fork and a fish fork. she does, however, know enough about herbs to mix her own makeup and make a delicious seasoning for the small game she just trapped for the party while they were on the road. if she was living in the modern world, she'd have an undergrad degree in performance & communication arts but go to law school for environmental law so she could advocate for green burial policies, she'd play the accordion with gusto, and she'd take an actual coffee mug everywhere instead of a travel mug. she's even bisexual.

Getting a jump on breaking down outfits for my character for my DnD group’s next campaign! Phoebe may have additional outfits yet — crossing my fingers for a “fancy party infiltration” outfit, as always! — but since her “classic” outfit has so many moving parts, so to speak, I really wanted to have visuals nailed down.

Some fun “behind the scenes” facts about this outfit:

Phoebe’s locket contains two painted miniatures of her mothers.

Phoebe sewed most of these clothes herself, which is why the embroidery all coordinates so nicely! (The capelet and mittens were both presents, and Phoebe purchased the belts and pouches for herself — she liked their utility, and thought they were something an adventurer would wear.)

The two items hanging on Phoebe’s belts are 1) a small block of rosin for her bow and 2) a medallion signifying her graduation from the institution where she studied bardic magic.

More Phoebe portraits: hairstyle experimentation edition! I wasn’t entirely happy with the way I drew her hair the first time around, and I had a tentative idea of how I wanted to draw her hair for her outfit breakdown, but I wanted to test a few ideas out before I settled on a final idea. (Drawing all these out made me realize pretty fast I liked the original “a” hairstyle the best, but it was still good practice!)

Took a break from drawing fanart for my current DnD campaign to do a portrait of my character for the next campaign in the works! Her name is Phoebe (surname TBD), she’s a bard (subclass also TBD), and the best way I can describe her personality is “if Elle Woods was the heroine of a Gothic novel.”
