The Background

Spencer Bowes grew up in an affluent, strict and extremely close family.

He had high expectations for him, and expected to follow the family tradition of going into law.

He moved to Blue Harbor to further his law, getting an internship at Heller& Co to further his career.

Relationship with Phoebe

They met when she was bartending at The Labyrinth and hit it off instantly. Phoebe was reluctant to date him at first, because he was slightly older and successful, and she had just graduated college.

However, Spencer insisted, laying the charm on thick, wining and dining her and getting her little gifts.

Though cracks formed in the early days, it wasn’t until about six months of being together where Spencer began to be more controlling toward Phoebe. Criticizing her interests and tastes, as well as her family background and her choice of friends. He’d also be a sweet, attentive guy. And Phoebe also felt like she was using him to get out of the suffocating grasp of her Weaver Ridge life.

About a year or so later, Phoebe officially moved into his apartment in Cardinal Hill, though had basically been staying there every night, so Spencer could keep tabs on her, and she no longer lived with her mom.

Over the next five years, as Phoebe bounced from job to job, he was almost successful in keeping her from her mom, though less successful with her friends, especially Seb, who distrusted Spencer from day one.

During this time, Spencer would offer a lot of ultimatums and hold the promise of marriage over her head to get her to behave in the way he desired. He also faced a lot of pressure from his family to break up with her due to being ‘white trash’. However, he truly believed he loved her, she just needed to be ‘perfect’.

After one explosive argument, Spencer realized that Phoebe would never change, and she’d never be good enough in the eyes of the Bowes family, he decided to break up with her, unceremoniously tossing her things out of the apartment and effectively never seeing her again.

The Next Chapter

What Spencer has been up to since the end of their relationship is completely up to the player! He could have left town, stayed, and just managed to avoid Phoebe the past couple of years.

I would love for them to not get closure per se, but for him to really pay for all the shit he put her through.

I also think crossing paths again would help Phoebetruly get over the part of her that feels self-conscious over the comments Spencer made about her during their relationship and realise her worth overall.
