Mass Effect: Andromeda | 30 Day Countdown |30-20
Condensing a whole bunch of days into one post since I just found out about this.
30 Days: Will you play SisRyder or BroRyder first? Why? How does your Ryder define their gender?
BroRyder, most definitely. I’m a guy, and BroRyder (as I’ve mentioned previously) is something of a self-insert, so there you go. BroRyder definitely thinks of himself as a guy, but he’s secure enough in his own identity that pushing ‘traditional’ boundaries appeals to him. He knows he looks good in a dress, and he knows how to walk in heels - not that he’ll have time for drag while saving the Human race, but y’know. SisRyder thinks of herself as a girl, but she’s into the androgynous aesthetic.
29 Days: What is your Ryder’s name? Why did you pick this name - is there a meaning or origin story behind it? Do they go by any nicknames? What would you name their sibling, father and mother if you were able to choose?
This one I’m actually undecided on. I thought at first I’d give them unique names, but then I found out that NPCs will actually refer to them by their first names at certain times, and I was like “Oh man, getting called by my first name in a game is my JAM,” so I might just leave them as Scott and Sara. IF I go with unique names, BroRyder will probably be ‘Mordecai,’ (a name I’ve always fancied), SisRyder would be ‘Blue-Sky’ (or just ‘Sky’ for short). Alec is fine for the father, I think it suits him. Mother’s name was Mariah; she used to call Mordecai ‘Muffin’ and Blue-Sky ‘Boo.’ Alec doesn’t use nicknames.
28/27 Days: Are you going to use the default appearance or create a custom Ryder/sibling? If custom, describe your Ryder’s physical appearance (hair color, eye color, skin color, height, weight, facial features, any scars or tattoos, racial origin, etc). If you have art and/or a face-claim, feel free to add them here.
Custom appearance for both, no question. Mordecai is 6′1″, so he’s not that tall; he’s fit but not musclebound - he likes the thinner, swimmer look. Shoulder-length brown hair, blue eyes. He’s got an Arcturus Station tattoo, but he got it ‘ironically’ since he hated it there. Also has an ‘Eye of Horus’ tattoo on his right hand between his thumb and pointer finger matching a character from his favorite movie. Blue-Sky is basically just a 5′8″ female version of him (or he’s a 6′1″ version of her) with shoulder-length (but curlier) brown hair and green eyes. She got the Prothean word for ‘Sky’ tattooed on the back of her neck, but hides it under her hair. The Ryder family is, on the mother’s side, mostly Indigenous/Native American, and Scottish/Western European on the father’s, so they’ll be a mix of that. Lastly, they both have their mother’s hips, lord bless them.
Day 26: Do you have a specific class profile or mix of class profiles in mind for Ryder?
Mordecai is Vanguard literally all the way, with maybe a little bit of tech thrown in. Blue-Sky is probably going to be pure Adept. Alec, I’d imagine, is strictly combat. Mariah was an Adept.
Day 25: Describe Ryder’s favorite combat style. Bioware call Peebee a “gunslinger” and describe Liam as a “close-range fighter” - how would you describe Ryder’s combat role/strengths? What are some of their favorite biotic/tech/other abilities?
Mordecai, being a Vanguard, loves charging in and punching things, although he’s partial to shotguns and assault rifles - the bigger the better. He’s not compensating, he just thinks huge guns look cool, and since he spends most of his time trying to look cool, so it’s a natural fit. Diving into combat isn’t a glory thing either, he just loves to fight; he also may or may not have been influenced by stories of a certain Vanguard Spectre. Blue-Sky likes pistols, preferably revolvers, and is also a hell of a shot with a bow and arrow. She prefers to hang back and take out fools who ignore her, although she takes a lot of pride in being able to get into close combat and wreck people with superior CQC skills.
24 Days: Which squadmates do you think will best compliment Ryder’s combat style? Alternatively, who do you plan to take out most in the field?
First of all, this is a Bioware game, so team comp means literally nothing; I’m taking out whoever I feel like. That being said, I’d imagine Mordecai hanging with Cora and Drack quite a bit, getting into all sorts of fights they probably shouldn’t, although P.B.’s ‘hot blue Indiana Jones’ vibe is pretty appealing too. Blue-Sky is definitely hanging with P.B. since they’re both archeology nerds; not to sure on who her second is.
23 Days: Which weapons or category of weapons will Ryder prefer? Describe their favorite loadout.
Mordecai will be taking the biggest, nastiest guns he can get his hands on, although he doesn’t have much love for sniper rifles. Blue-Sky is entirely too pragmatic to worry about aesthetics - she’ll take whatever ends the fight fastest.
22 Days: Will Ryder craft? What are you most excited about crafting? Do you have any names in mind already for weapons?
Gonna play this one by ear. Personally I’m excited about crafting everything.
21 Days: What are Ryder’s personality traits? Describe 5 strengths and 5 flaws.
Strengths: He’s clever. He’s all heart. He’s a great improviser. He’s very empathetic. He’s funny.
Flaws: His cleverness leads to outward overconfidence and crippling inner doubt. He rarely looks before he leaps. He never lets anyone know he actually cares, so he comes across as a jerk. He wants to be shallow because it means he doesn’t have to care. He’s a total hothead.
20 Days: What first impressions does Ryder tend to give people? Do they have any ‘odd’ or specific mannerisms, habits or other quirks? How do they present and carry themselves?
Mordecai comes across as a smartass, but a smart smartass; nobody expects someone as good at running their mouth as he is to also be as good in a fight as he is. His posture is everything; when he’s feeling confident or trying to impress, he’s in super-chest-puff mode, but otherwise he’s just trying to look cool. He disarms with humor, although he keeps it pretty middle-of-the-road until he knows the person better - then he gets really NSFW or just plain weird. Blue-Sky is confident and comfortable in her own skin, and she either puts someone at ease or intimidates them without even trying. She’s actually hilarious, even funnier than Mordecai, but she’s much more particular about when she chooses to make a joke.
