Not only did Walt Disney come along at the right time, he knew American audiences and know what the majority of them wanted. He also knew that the quickest way to their hearts – as well as to their pocketbooks – would be through their children. While at once pacifying reform-minded adult moviegoers, Disney, who delivered his version of the fairy tale (always with the happy ending) to Depression-era audiences who sought escape and confirmation, gained in a relatively short period of time access to and approval from what is now the largest consumer group in the world: the American family.
As Disney brought white American children (and their parents) to the movie theaters to see its various appropriations of 19th century European folktales, such as the Brothers Grimm’s Snow White (1937), Carlo Colodi’s Pinocchio (1940), and Hans Christian Andersen’s and Charles Perrault’s Cinderella (1950), it uses a similar strategy to effect a multicultural, even multinational, appeal. Disney’s appropriations in the 1990s were especially daring and controversial; the cultural territories of Arab folklore in Aladdin (1992), African society in The Lion King, Native American history in Pocahontas, and French and Chinese canonical literature in The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Mulan respectively, have been reconstituted and sanitized to draw in a much larger portion of the children’s market.
The Disney formula, which idealizes states of childhood and adolescence, nevertheless underscores the absolute necessity of the traditional, nuclear family. Thus, child and parent consumer groups are assuages; despite the independence that Disney child or adolescent animates characters seem to have, they inevitably desire (more than anything else) a family.
Of course, independence is usually conferred upon boys in Disney’s wonderful world: Pinocchio and Mowgli in The Jungle Book (1967) tend to do as they please, while Snow White and Cidnerella just do more than their share of housework. It is a tradition and, for many, a comfortable gender stereotype, but it is one that makes sense to perpetuate if the Disney children’s canon is going to be resilient. Characters, such as Ariel in The Little Mermaid (1989) and Pocahontas, shouldn’t be too different in terms of their limitless spunk and generosity and their limited cultural enfranchisement, or other Disney “masterpieces” might risk losing their conventional appeal.
Although it is both inaccurate and unethical to represent and valorize this beautiful brown woman [Pocahontas] for what (in the simplified Disney view) amounts to selling out her culture to European Parekh [Pushpa] explains that Shruti [her daughter] was very enthusiastic about seeing someone who looks like herself in the movies.
The ethos of oversimplification and subjectivity, this force of Disneyfication, is a major shared by the authors of this collection. A child’s experience of the world is oversimplified and subjective, and to some degree, that is the pure, idyllic beauty of childhood egoism. But it is egoism nonetheless: a regard only for the self – the Other can be acknowledged but only in relation to the self. It is the egoist who resists the worlds of Others and constructs his or her own.

I will buy a library. A library with no books and full of candies!
Tumblr media
Wow, that took almost a week! I'm exhausted.... Most ppl tend to forget this scene but it was one of the scenes that impressed me.
I dunno why he didn't think of a candy shop but library, but it gave me liminal vives. Also I'm not good at perspectives and reflections so I beg your pardon about that part
Also I tried changing his hat design, and it fits this well, but I'd rather sick to the old one...

If Pinocchio as a human can have his nose grow, does that mean any human can have their nose grow too? Should we be worried?
In Tales(my version of fairytale au), that's Pinocchio's own trait, not trait of specific species. Also it's a complicated backstory
In og novel, it's is said by fairy with turquoise hair: longer nose and shorter legs. However we can see is nose not growing despite his lies in some scene, and the fox and the cat's noses are fine. We can see that her words might be a metaphor, and it was just a spell.
There are many adaptions of Pinocchio, but as long as I know we're safe(except for Hello Kitty Pinocchio it's on YouTube)
Tumblr media
...but whether it grows or not, we should be honest. Most trouble caused by lie didn't made nose grow
