And although the kitten seems to be the main character, honestly, I couldn’t take my eyes off the pit bull and I held my breath as the animations played on the screen. And I have to say, this little film is near perfection. First, it’s hand drawn mostly, thank god, it’s so beautiful and expressive. Second, and most importantly, this film is a MAJOR step for animal advocates and pit bull advocates worldwide. . . (SPOILER ALERT) The film hits all the marks for pit bull advocates: the cropped ears, the chain, the dogfighting. What is so powerful is that the tribulations of the neglected/abused pit bull are seen through the eyes of a scared kitten who is also battling for survival. I like to think of this as a metaphor, that the scared kitten is us, humans, who are afraid of things with teeth, things who bark, things we don’t understand. And how we get caught up in our own fears and struggles. . This movie makes me feel like we have arrived. The conversation around pit bulls has been transformed for the past years through the admirable work of countless advocates and organizations. But nothing beats the advocacy carried out by one of the most powerful movie companies out there… Guys, I guess I can retire!!! 🙌😅 . . NEW YORK: #pitbullflowerpower Champ was rescued by @thesatoproject from Dead Dog Beach in Puerto Rico, an infamous dumping ground for unwanted dogs… He was found with a female, Chancie, who was believed to be his baby mama. She was newly pregnant. Unfortunately, there were issues with her pups so the vet had no choice but to terminate the pregnancy. Chancie and Champ were rescued and Chancie has been adopted a few days ago! Yay! Champ himself is still waiting. Actually, worse than that, nobody has applied for him yet. Champ is really awesome and easy! He was friendly from day one. He knew « sit » and some commands, which led rescuers to believe he must have been a family pet. He is great with other dogs (although he can play a little rough). He loves kids too. In Puerto Rico, the rescue’s trainer took Champ to a high school where he hung out with the kids all day, and his foster mom has a 10-year-old boy. Think of Champ as Petey from the Little Rascals! He is definitively one of the boys and will make a great sidekick for any little rascal out there… Champ is smart and very well-behaved. He is a great ambassador for pitties! He looks like a Labrador mix too, so you know he has good genes! The only thing he doesn’t like (or like too much) are cats. Everyone who meets him falls in love. He enjoys being around his people, and his foster mom describes him as the perfect mix between calm and playful. He has been showering his foster family with love and wiggles. He is currently fostered in NJ and available anywhere in the Northeast. Media are now running with the click bait title « Pit bull attacks woman ». Here are the facts I was able to gather: a man brought his dog into the NYC subway, breaking the law by not having him in a carrier. Apparently, he sat his dog on a seat next to a woman, who told him off when the dog touched her, asking the dog be on the floor and not on a seat. Things escalated pretty quickly after that. The man refused and told her he wouldn’t move his dog. The woman apparently proceeded to push the dog several times, until the man hit her and yelled at her not to touch his dog. She hit back, and the pit bull latched onto her shoe (which btw looked like a toy) and refused to let go for a few seconds. Some media wrote the dog ripped the shoe off, but from the video it seems the owner took the woman’s shoe off. As soon as the shoe was off, the dog let go. By then, subway passengers were filming and yelling that the dog should be euthanized. If you ask me, two grown humans acting like toddlers are the culprits. The dog basically tried to make the madness stop with the only mean he had: his mouth. I cannot imagine the amount of stress he was put under, people screaming and hitting each other around him, in a crowded subway. His owner should have not put him in that situation, and just moved him. The woman should know better than shoving a dog around, and two adults should certainly know better than hitting each other for any reason. (Although if someone was pushing my MacLovin around 🤔🤔😅...). Now unfortunately, another click bait story against pit bulls is circulating (the woman wasn’t injured). This could have been prevented, and it could have been much worse too. People set this dog up for failure big time, and the dog, although he escalated, stayed pretty calm. Now these people are jeopardizing the fate of millions of dogs (including this one). We need #PitBullFlowerPower more than ever 🙏😭 and more education and awareness. #NotTheDogsFault #mta #nycsubwayart

Yesterday, Valérie Plante was elected mayor of Montreal, kicking out Coderre... and that is a BIG win for dog owners!!! Part of her promises was to repeal the recently implemented pit bull ban!!! This could be huge. During her campaign, she said she would plan to follow in the footsteps of other Canadian cities and hold public consultations on a new animal control bylaw. The proposed animal control plan would be to educate the public on "responsible dog ownership" as opposed to banning certain breeds. "Nobody is saying 'an animal over a human,'" her animal welfare guy said during the campaign. "If you're truly putting people before animals, then you need to educate those people." 🙌🙌🙌 I could not agree more, and I hope Montreal can show the way to smart "dangerous dogs" policies... Now, let's get all the babies home safe! Ashley from @miamianimalserv (#A1855975) is still waiting for someone to scoop her up. I photographed her a few months back, but nobody has come for her. Miami Dade shelter is overwhelmed with dogs and unfortunately Ashley has had no luck with adopters, which means after a few months, she is now very urgent and will end up on their euthanasia list soon. She needs a MDAS rescue partner to pull her, or a foster / adopter. A volunteer wrote about her: "Ashley is a very affectionate, mellow, young Terrier mix. This little red-head has lots of love to give. She did great with other dogs next to us and passing by, she sits on command, is super gentle taking treats from you, doesn't pull on the leash… great pretty girl ready for a forever home!". ADOPT OUR LOVELY LIL RAY OF SUNSHINE! 💛 Beautifully photographed by Sophie Gamand as part of her acclaimed #PitbullFlowerPower series! 💛 Queens NY: At 8mos old, we pulled Sunshine off the NYCACC list last summer. Sunshine’s owner surrendered her & 4 of her pitbull housemates to MACC because they had “Too Many Pets.” Sunshine was bred in the home, lived well with several kids aged 8-13yrs old, 5 other bully breed dogs & 2 adults. Sweet baby, Sunshine has flourished in her foster home & is ready to find her fabulous forever family! Sunshine is now 1yr old & she’s thought to be a bulldog/ Pit mix. She’s dog friendly, kid friendly, people/stranger friendly & has no resource guarding issues. Sunshine is simply a little petite bundle of love & fun, weighing in at 45lbs. This Lovebug is all about the kisses & snuggles, & is pretty low key/low energy. Sunshine does have some separation anxiety but, it’s manageable. In her Far Rockaway foster home, she lives with 5 other dogs & loves to play with them. She also enjoys walks on the beach, leisurely hikes & most of all... cuddling with humans or canines! Her former owner reported that she would chase the 2 cats in the home & therefore should not go to a home with cats. We think Sunshine would do best in a home with another doggy pal or two as she craves companionship & that safe feeling a pack provides.
