There are many algorithms for ordering elements in a data structure, but they all have a cost in both time and space that is unacceptable for real-time rendering on current computer graphics hardware. One reason that transparency is challenging is that ordering surfaces is hard. This is one reason why hair, smoke, and glass often look unrealistic in video games, especially where they come close to opaque surfaces. That's because pixels containing partly transparent surfaces have multiple surfaces contributing to the final value, and the order in which they are composited over each other affects the result. The ChallengeGenerating real-time images of scenes with partial transparency is challenging. To dig deeper, I recommend the discussion of the sources and relation between coverage and transmission for non-refractive transparency in the Colored Stochastic Shadow Maps paper that Eric Enderton and I wrote. I extended that discussion in the transparency section of Computer Graphics: Principles and Practice. There are some interesting physics and technical details that I'm simplifying in this overview. This is the classic partial coverage situation first described for graphics by Porter and Duff in 1986 and modeled with "alpha". A similar situation arises at the edge of any opaque surface, where the silhouette cuts partly across a pixel. In that case, the "surface" of the opaque fence with holes is equivalent to a homogeneous, partly-transparent surface within the pixel. For example, when a fence is viewed from a great distance, an individual pixel may contain both fence posts and the holes between them. These all transmit light through their surfaces because of their chemical properties.Įven opaque materials can produce partially transparent surfaces within a computer graphics system. Realistic materials such as fog, glass, and water as well as imaginary ones such as force-fields and magical spells appear frequently in video games and modeling programs. Partially transparent surfaces are important for computer graphics. See also the new colored transmission method in my next article! Like all Missiles, the Rocket Missile bypasses shields and can be dodged by ships that have a powered Engine onboard. The Rocket Missile has no special abilities and is comparable to the Mineral Mining Laser in damage. The Rocket Missile is a Missile automatically unlocked when the Missile Launcher/ Multi Missile Launcher is built.

It is very rare for the pivot point to be exactly where you need it without modifying it. Pivot Points control where the object is going to snap to, rotate and scale from. Make sure you have snaps disabled in the Status Line in order to use these shortcuts. You have to hold down V, C or X while moving the object to keep snaps on.

Hold X and Move Object = snap to the grid.

Hold C and Move Object = snap to curve/edge.

Hold V and Move Object = snap to vertex point.

Instead of coming up to the Status Line, you can use shortcut: In the viewport, select an object then Left Click Hold and Drag or Middle Mouse Click Hold and Drag the object to snap. Left mouse click to enable Snap to Grid, Curves/Edges or Points/Vertices. Snapping OptionsĪs mentioned before in Interface Overview, you'll only need know and use 3 grid options:

To do this you have to know how to snap to grid, vertices, edges and modify pivot points. This applies to nearly all models you create, especially when creating modular assets. You have to be able to snap your geometry to grid and to other objects in the scene. Snaps and Pivots are probably the most important elements of game environment modeling that aren't mentioned enough to a beginner. You can start from the beginning here and watch all videos sequentially.

Ramen Night 2023 (Spicy Miso Edition)

Miso Tare

(about 7 or 8 servings) 

250ml Sake

250g red miso (shinshu)

250g white miso (shinshu)

50g Saikyo miso

50g Hatcho miso

25g light brown sugar

15g iri-goma sesame seeds

Dashi Stock

2 sheets of kombu

1 pack of bonito (about 5-6 grams)

1 quart of water

Assembly 

For sapparo style put aroma oil (see ramen night 2023) in wok then stir fry with fresh garlic, sliced thin carrot and sliced thin onions until softened. Note 4-6 servings can be done in a wok at once.

Add in paitan stock (see ramen night 2023) with dashi stock. Ratio 1 part dashi stock to 4 parts paitan stock

Once soup is heated up add miso tare - 1 heap tbsp per cup 

Dissolve in pan as you stir and add more tare as needed. 

Add in a 1/4 teaspoon torgashi per cup of broth used and a pinch of msg if desired. 

Add in a tablespoon of butter per bowl of soup

Add toubanjan/ pixen bean paste, 1/2 teaspoon per cup of soup

Soup is done. Just keep hot. 

Make noodles. 

Put in bowl and pour hot soup on top. 

Add any other desired toppings. Source way of ramen

Things not used but noted in recipe: After stir frying vegetables add and cook ground pork 30g per cup of soup. In lieu of aroma oil the recipe calls out for lard thats been cooked off.

Notes: 

Needs lots of butter added. I did about 4 tablespoons for the 4 bowls because I didn’t have lard.

Cook the corn in butter, some tamari, and a splash of mirin

Splash of rayu per bowl

Rayu Recipe:

4 tablespoons canola oil

1 bay leaf

2 teaspoons ichimi togarashi (Japanese chili powder) (or Korean or Thai chili powder)

2 tablespoons toasted sesame oil

1 teaspoon paprika powder

Process:

Place canola oil and a bay leaf in a small pan and add low heat.

Cook until small bubbles are coming up, and the bay leaf is just about changing colour. Then turn off the heat.

Use a spoon, and sprinkle some chili powder over the heated oil. Check that it’s not burning the powder. If it’s burning (turning a brownish colour), wait for a little bit before adding the rest of the chili powder. Use a spoon and combine the mix. Make sure the spoon is clean and is not wet.

Allow the mix to cool down. It takes about ten minutes. Once its cooled down, combine with sesame oil and paprika powder.
