There is no place for political imprisonment in a functioning, democratic society.
Evin Prison in Tehran, Iran is no ordinary prison. Since 1972 (for 50 years! Half a century!!) it has been the primary site for the housing of Iran's political prisoners. Due to the number of intellectuals, students and other elite members of the intelligentsia housed there, Evin Prison is commonly referred to as “Evin University”. Many (my own mother included) used to say “Evin prison could declare independence” (because they have everyone. From diplomats to doctors. From journalists to students.). Many of the prisoners there are more fit to run the country than the current leaders.
Tumblr media
Evin‬⁩ is no ordinary prison. Many of Iran’s best & brightest have spent long stretches confined there, where brave women & men are denied their basic rights for speaking truth to power. The regime is responsible for what happens to those inside right now.
Political prisoners aren’t the only innocent people there. There are innocent journalists, poets, filmmakers, artists, activists and LGBTQ+ people unjustly held in that prison. All because they want basic rights. All because they want to be treated with basic human decency.
Tumblr media
As of 3:00 pm (EST) October 15, the Evin Prison has been on fire. Many who live nearby say they heard gunshots days prior to the fire. At least 4 explosions have happened so far and there will be more.
Two days ago Mehdi Hashemi Rafsanjani, son of the former president and an Iranian elite “businessman” Aghazadeh, was released from the prison on a break and was to go back after two days. He was told not to. After two days of him not being there, the prison burns down with explosions and gunshots that can be heard from streets away. Coincidence? I think not. Even though they “arrested” one of their people, he wasn’t there when Evin caught fire. The elite will never get hurt because they ARE the regime.
Tehran is taken over by the scent of blood and smoke.
Tumblr media
The Islamic Republic is responsible for all those lives unjustly behind bars. Tonight they commit arson in the name of arson. They will attempt to say it didn’t happen or that it was an accident. A gas leak or some other lie. They did this just like they did everything else. Here’s just to name a few:
Cinema Rex Fire (1978), Sanchi Ship (2018), Metropol Building Collapse (2022), Flight 752 (2020), Massacre of 1988, Plasco Building fire (2017), Violent raids on the dormitory of Tehran University (1999), the continues hate crimes (rapes, conversion and killings) or non-muslims, not to mention the amount of people who’ve died due to poverty and/or in protests.
Just days ago, government forces attacked an intermediate school in Ardabil, Iran. A pre-school aged girl was beaten to death (at her school, in front of her peers) for engaging in protests.
For the Islamic Republic Regime of Iran, it has always been geniuses vs. guns.
There is nothing we can do but to spread the word. To spread awareness. To make Iran-related hashtags trending again.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would use my Tumblr account, which is meant to be for me to interact with people in different fandoms all in good fun, to talk about something like this. I feel so terrified and helpless. Pease repost!

When I was little, I had one of these tin dollhouses that were popular in the 1950’s and 60’s. As a child growing up, I dreamed of someday living in a dream house just like the one I played with. I hoped for lots of bedrooms, a cute baby nursery, and a fireplace in the living room. Now I dream of owning another tin dollhouse like the one I had when I was little.

🏠 VINTAGE DOLLHOUSES: A BRIEF HISTORY OF MINIATURE HOUSES AND WHY WE LOVE THEM- While dollhouses may seem like timeless childhood playthings, this hasn’t always been the case – when they first emerged in the 17th century, they weren’t designed for children or playing!
Intended to impress and entertain guests, the first “miniature houses” or “cabinet houses”, as they were called, belonged to wealthy people in 17th century Germany, Holland and England. They were usually built in cabinets with hinged front doors (like a china cabinet), divided into floors and rooms that contained expensive miniature household objects, décor, and furniture. Then in the 18th century, it became popular for English elites to commission small-scale replicas of their own houses, with exact copies of all the inner rooms and furnishings, which they called “baby houses”.
While these miniature houses were the domain of upper-class adults, “Nuremburg Kitchens” (miniature dioramas of household kitchens) were given to little girls as far back as the 16th century. Their purpose was supposedly to teach young, future housewives about managing a household, but these tiny worlds would have captured the imagination of little children would have ultimately become playthings.
Fast forward to the 20th century, when mass-production, mail-order catalogues, and the rise of department stores bring dollhouses into the mainstream for middle-class children. Plastic dollhouse furniture was catching on in the 1940s, and after WWII it became the go-to material for dollhouse furnishings. Renwal and Ideal maintained leadership in the plastic dollhouse furniture market through the 1950s, but manufacturers including Plasco, Pressman, Marx, Reliable and others also enjoyed success during this period.
Steel (AKA tin-litho) dollhouses also gained popularity around the same time, first appearing in the late 1940s. This Woolworths advertisement from 1948 features Renwal plastic furniture sets alongside one of the earliest steel dollhouses, this Playsteel Federal-style dollhouse, manufactured by the American Can Co. Marx, T.Cohn, and others also made steel dollhouses, the most popular being “Colonial” styles and split-level ranch.

مسابقه پلاسکو(جز ده اثر منتخب مسابقه )
مهندس معمار : پویا خلج ARCHITECT : Pouya Khalaj CG Artist : Pouya Khalaj
In the competition for the new design of the Plasco Building in Iran, which tragically burned down resulting in the loss of several firefighters, I developed an alternative design that was selected among the top ten finalists. The concept of this building revolves around smoke mitigation through the use of vertical and horizontal lines, creating a visual effect that disperses smoke. Within these smoke patterns, trees are visible on the facade, serving as a tribute to the firefighters who lost their lives in the Plasco incident.

Deadly Fire destroys high-rise building Tehran, Iran
A high-rise building in Tehran engulfed by a fire collapsed on Thursday, killing at least 30 firefighters and injuring some 75 people, state media reported.
The disaster struck the Plasco building, an iconic structure in central Tehran just north of the capital's sprawling bazaar.
Iran's state-run Press TV announced the firefighters' deaths, without giving a source for the information. Local Iranian state television said 30 civilians were injured in the disaster, while the state-run IRNA news agency said 45 firefighters had been injured.
Firefighters battled the blaze for several hours before the collapse. Police tried to keep out shopkeepers and others wanting to rush back in to collect their valuables. However, witnesses said some people had slipped through and gone back in.
The building came down in a matter of seconds, shown live on state television, which had begun an interview with a journalist at the scene. A side of the building came down first, tumbling perilously close to a firefighter perched on a ladder and spraying water on the blaze.
A thick plume of brown smoke rose over the site after the collapse. Onlookers wailed in grief. (AP)
