pretty little liars becomes so centered around the romances in the later seasons that when they get out of the dollhouse everyone is in their significant other’s arms and they just stick mona in with emily and alison sdfkjgdsk it’s so frustrating like! yes they do a good job making the girls’ bond with one another really significant but there’s too much focus on everyone being paired off (and i say this as someone who gets annoyed by people on this site complaining about romance being impt in fiction) it just gets.........boring, mostly because they rarely change up the main romances, when they do it’s brief like! it’s annoying

Rewatching PLL in 30 Episodes

Even though (or maybe because) I’m not the biggest fan of the PLL ending, I’ve put together a list of thirty episodes of the show that when watched together will hopefully create a concise storyline that makes relative sense. I actually got this idea because I have a theory that the ending of Gossip Girl would make sense if you shortened the show to about twenty episodes (I would make a post about that, but my opinions about the last season of GG are pretty unpopular) and decided to apply the same concept to PLL. The idea is to tie together the first and last episodes, which for PLL are very different. I find it almost impossible to rewatch PLL because a. there are a lot of filler episodes and b. the last episode doesn’t line up very well with the rest of the show. By reducing the show to 30 episodes picked because they create a narrative to back up the finale, you get rid of both those problems. Although there are some plot holes that will never make sense.

A couple notes before we begin:

-I haven’t rewatched most of the show since it ended, although I did rewatch older episodes a lot as it was ending. I might’ve missed a couple important episodes that should be on this list. Feel free to add any in the notes.

-This list probably only makes sense if you’ve already watched the show and just want to rewatch parts of it. There are also spoilers in my episode descriptions.

-There are some good episodes missing in order to create this narrative in this amount of episodes. I would make a list of best episodes, but that’s subjective (for me it’s pretty much seasons 1-3A and 6A). You can give and take episodes to suit your personal preference.

-I haven’t watch this list yet myself. I plan on making a follow up post when I do, but it could be a few weeks.

The actual list:

1. 1x01 “Pilot”

Starting with the first episode, we learn about Ali’s disappearance and “death,” Aria meets Ezra, and A is introduced.

2. 1x02 “The Jenna Thing”

The title says it all. The Jenna Thing™️ comes up in later episodes on the list, so it’s important to learn about. This episode also feels like an extension of the pilot.

3. 1x19 “Person of Interest”

Part of condensing the show this much is skipping over storylines that either don’t get resolved or aren’t very relevant to the A reveals, which is why there isn’t much of Ian and/or the NAT club on this list. This episode is included because it’s setting up 3/4 of the “endgame” ships. A couple scenes in this episode are paralleled in 7B.

4. 2x13 “The First Secret”

You can’t watch PLL without watching this episode. It’s also important set up for 3x13, which is number 9 on the list.

5. 2x25 “Unmasked”

Of course we need to see the first A reveal. Mona’s run as A is important to later episodes on the list, as well as the parallel of her slapping Spencer and her winning the game in the finale.

6. 3x01 “It Happened That Night”

The start of Charlotte’s run as A. Since Charlotte being A is what leads to Alex being AD, Charlotte is a big focus of this list.

7. 3x07 “Crazy”

Charlotte’s first appearance as CeCe.

8. 3x12 “The Lady Killer”

The reveal of Maya’s killer and Toby’s first A Team appearance.

9. 3x13 “This is a Dark Ride”

First hint that Ali is alive. Ties into later episodes.

10. 3x24 “A dAngerous gAme”

Ali is alive, Mona and Toby are kicked off the A team, and ties into 6x10.

11. 4x01 “A is for A-l-i-v-e”

Extension of 3x12, answers about Mona’s work as A, Wilden’s body is found, and Black Widow appears.

12. 4x11 “Bringing Down the Hoe”

“CeCe” is seen in the A uniform spying on Aria and Ezra.

13. 4x20 “Free Fall”

Aria learns about Ezra’s book, which is important for 4x24 and mentioned in 5x25.

14. 4x24 “A is for Answers”

Ali officially reintroduces herself to the liars and gives them some answers about why she disappeared, CeCe is arrested for killing Wilden, and Jessica is murdered.

15. 5x01 “Escape from New York”

Continuation of 4x24 and the supposed death of A.

16. 5x05 “Miss Me x 100”

Return of A, first mention of Bethany Young, and ship stuff paralleled in 7x20.

17. 5x12 “Taking This One to the Grave”

Mona fakes her death and is kidnapped, important for The Dollhouse.

18. 5x25 “Welcome to the Dollhouse”

The Dollhouse is Charlotte’s main A thing and gives clues to her reveal/backstory.

19. 6x01 “Game on, Charles”

Continuation of 5x25 and Sara Harvey’s first on screen appearance.

20. 6x09 “Last Dance”

Leads into 6x10 and sets up where a lot of the characters will be in the time jump. Wine moms reappear in 7x20.

21. 6x10 “Game Over, Charles”

Charlotte’s A reveal and backstory, which is tied to Alex’s AD reveal and backstory. “Answers” for Bethany Young’s death.

22. 6x11 “Of Late I Think of Rosewood”

Start of time jump, Charlotte’s death, and introduction to Elliott Rollins/Archer Dunhill. And the ships are reintroduced.

23. 6x20 “Hush, Hush, Sweet Liars”

Introduction of Mary Drake and Evil Archer.

24. 7x01 “Tick-Tock, Bitches”

Continuation of 6x20 and the first appearance of Alex Drake.

25. 7x04 “Hit and Run, Run, Run”

The cover up of Archer’s death which is important to later episodes.

26. 7x10 “Darkest Night”

Alex impersonating Spencer, Ali tells Emily she’s pregnant, and Spencer finds out that Mary is her birth mother.

27. 7x11 “Playtime”

Continuation of 7x10, start of the game, and Spencer’s mom explains her birth.

28. 7x15 “In the Eye Abides the Heart”

Ali makes a decision about her pregnancy that explains her and Emily’s ending and Ezra catches Alex talking to Wren, although they pretend she’s Spencer.

29. 7x19 “Farewell, My Lovely”

It’s revealed that Mona killed Charlotte in self defense, Mary takes the fall for Archer’s death, the Liars win the game, and general set up for 7x20.

30. 7x20 “Till Death Do Us Part”

The last episode of the show, which will hopefully be more satisfying to watch with only 29 episodes before it. All the ships are wrapped up in pretty little bow, the mystery is solved, less filler means less plot holes, and it’ll only take you 21 hours to watch. Okay, I’m still a little salty about this last episode, but I do genuinely think it makes more sense in the context.

You could definitely include a few more episodes on this list, especially from season seven, but I wanted to keep it as short as possible. Let me know what you think of this idea and which episodes you would add or takeaway.

Arcturus and the Bear

By now we know that “Arcturus” is a constellation known as “Guardian of the Bear.”

So, if Arcturus is protecting someone, then... who’s the bear?

We’ve had a limited amount of bear references on this show, but enough to think that this is a clue. 

First we had Hanna’s classic line...

“Sometimes you poke the bear, and other times the bear pokes you.”

Then, in 6x01 we had this line from Ali:

“If we don’t poke the bear, it’ll just keep hibernating.”

And then, somewhere between 6x01 and 6x10 Marlene posted this on Instagram:

With the caption: “A’ Does have a soul.”

Then in the nightmare that was 6x10...

Charles with his teddy bear when he is being dropped at Radley, and Charlotte with her bear as she tells Ali her tale.

Off topic: Do we, or do we not think it’s significant that these are different bears?  Just saying, maybe the fact that Charlotte has a different bear from flashback Charles, is because they aren’t the same person.

OK, so now is the time for the classic PLL game “Is this a clue, or is it nothing?”

I personally feel like their have been enough bear references in 7B alone (I kow there was another one in 7B, but I can’t find it... I think it was another Hanna line...) to put this up for consideration as a clue... but a clue to what?

The only thing I got out of this is a fairly obvious reference to Pastor Ted, what with the church literally having a secret tunnel to Radley, and multiple references to a Teddy Bear. (This is where I emerge from the wing with my dream that Ted just fathered every child on the A team.)

Till Death Do Us Part, Fandom

Questions taken from here! 

1. Who are your biggest suspects going into the finale?  (add motive if you want to!) 

I just keep wanting to say Wren because that’s who I thought it was in 6A and I will continue to believe that until I am proven wrong. 

2. What are some things you really hope to see in the finale? (non mystery related)

I want to see the story wrap up happily because these girls have been tortured for so long, I think they deserve to live a normal life after all of this. 

3. What are some things you really hope to see in the finale? (mystery related)

It’s unrealistic to expect at this point, but honestly, a tie up of some unanswered questions that really bother me, mostly pertaining to Melissa, Wilden, Bethany, and even Alison. (4x24 just didn’t do enough for me.)

4. What do you not want to see happen?

Though my thoughts and opinions of Ezria have evolved throughout the years, I still don’t want to see Ezra dead. I also don’t want to see Mona dead.

5. What are you going to miss the most about PLL Tuesday’s?

Hanging out with my friends and watching the show live while I eat pizza. Followed by some theorizing and reading funny Tumblr posts. 

6. What won’t you miss about PLL Tuesday’s?

Having my brain in such hyper mode after the episode that it would distract me from sleep (even though I had school/work early the next day). 

7. What’s been your favourite theory over the years? 

Though I never really believed it, the Aria is A theories got so detailed and picky, I could have believed it and I still wonder about some of those theories sometimes. 

8. What’s the *one* thing that could happen in the finale that would ruin the series for you?

If the writers do everything they did in 7x10, because that episode is honestly the only episode I really hated from the entire show. 

9. What’s been your favourite thing about all 7 seasons?

The positive, honest portrayal of female friendship. It was such an uncommon representation before PLL, really. Female friendships weren’t there to cause drama or argue over boys... They truly loved each other, and that’s how I feel about my female friends.

10. What’s been your least favourite thing about all 7 seasons?

All of the love triangles. Does anyone even like those? And, of course, some of the teeth-grinding unanswered plot holes. 

11. What’s your favourite episode and why? (Pick up to three!)

I love most of the episodes, but... 4x12: I just remember being SO EXCITED and charged by it! 4x19: I actually really loved the artsiness and intrigue of this episode. 5x25 and 6x01: THE DOLLHOUSE WAS JUST SUCH A SHOCK AND I CAN’T BELIEVE THE WRITERS HID THAT UNDER THEIR SLEEVES UNTIL IT HAPPENED. 5x01-5x08: I was really hooked into the mystery during these episodes, and I still remember specifically watching these to this day. 

12. Has this show taught you anything? Has it changed you in any way?

I will direct this question to the “goodbye letter” I wrote on my blog yesterday. 

13. Who has been your favourite guest star (recurring guest stars are allowed)?

Holden, apparently. I found that out when he appeared in season 7 and I was literally screaming.  

14. Who has been your least favourite guest star (recurring guest stars are allowed)?

The awkwardly forced Adam Lambert and that one Olympic swimmer, Missy something. 

15. Favourite storyline?

JUST ALL OF 4B AND 5A, AND THE DOLLHOUSE AND POST-DOLLHOUSE. 

16. Least favourite storyline?

Anything involving a love triangle.

17. Favourite liar? (Mona and Alison INCLUDED)

I have to choose #Sparia.

18. Least favourite liar?

I used to love Hanna, but lately I feel like her character has fallen flat. 

19. Character (any character) you’ll miss the most?

Sparia, and also Mona and Ezra. 

20. Character (any character) you won’t miss at all?

All of this Emison stuff has made me realize that even though individually I love Alison and Emily for their complexity, I don’t want them together and I will just easily bid them goodbye after tonight.

saddest death: maya oh my god. i still break down crying whenever i think about shay’s acting in this scene. it was the first moment i remember going ‘wow’ at bc she was so good.

I used to like them a lot. Not as much I love Spoby now, they never were my OTP but I really liked them before 4x20. TBH I think it would have been a better move almost for him to be A for real, because A had a mental disorder, what Ezra did he did as a calculated move, in his right mind. But that's all besides the point now, I just have never felt the same about him or their relationship in general since. But oddly enough, they're the only couple on the show besides Spoby that make me feel anything positive. Maybe it's because 4B was so long ago and it's not like I'm seeking out to rewatch their scenes so maybe my feelings regarding that scene are faded or maybe because Lucy and Ian work well together, either way at times like 6x01 I'll get feels at their scenes, like "aww that was cute, I still sort of ship that" which TBH is a lot more positive than I feel toward H*lebs scenes.

12 days of pll - day 4

“Game On, Charles” is one of the only episodes that I feel like I can rewatch again and again without ever getting bored. It’s exciting from start to finish and there aren’t any lackluster scenes. I wish that the rest of 6a had kept up this insane level of energy, but I’ll never forget how glued to the screen I was when this episode aired.

Favorite Moment: The girls waking up in the morgue-like room.

Favorite Quote: “Did you guys know that I won an Etch-A-Sketch contest when I was in the third grade?” “Of course you did.”

Why do I say that?  Elementary:

1. He gets closer to the liars through Ali coz she tells him everything while he shangs her. BANG.

2. He appeared in fewer episodes than Shana. TAN DAN DAN.

3. Maybe he’ s Maya’s brother. Maybe she’s still alive (look the other thoey). Maybe he’s Maya. (new theory, yeah)

4. Marlene likes people who have appeared in a few episodes. This is a perfect -A profile and basic requirement . (see also point 2)

Charles’ story

I have now updated this as of watching “Oh brother, Where art thou”.  I had to make some changes but I was definitely on the right track at the end of 5B.   I have crossed out what was wrong and updated the rest.  What do you all think?

This is my theory, as of viewing the PLL Season 6 premiere, “Game on Charles”

Charles, Jason and Alison are in this shot with Jessica DiLaurentis.

Charles is Jessica Di Laurentis’ nephew from her twin sister.  Charles is also  and Kenneth DiLauerentis’ son. Jessica’s twin tricked him/seduced him and had his love child. Jason is his cousin, and genetic sibling (Peter Hastings is his dad). Alison is Charles’ half sister, genetic sibling, and cousin. Ali is the daughter that Kenneth loved above all his other children.

Charles’ mom, Jessica’s twin, was institutionalized and was unable to care for charles (during the time of the home video at Campbell farm) and Charles was living with the DiLaurentis’. and Jason was very close to him and thought of him as a brother. They played and argued just as brothers all the time always do. They especially loved to play-fight over Alison. They wanted to play with her all time. She was like their doll.  Until Jason Ali was attacked in their kitchen almost drowned in the bathtub by Charles. Jessica lied and said Charles had attacked Jason and tried to kill him. She purposely lied because she had guessed/found out Charles was Kenneth’s son and she didn’t want her husband to see the boys together and figure out Jason wasn’t his. Charles was sent to Radley for treatment before being sent back to foster care.  Kenneth and Jessica decided to instutionalize Charles at Radley.

Jessica DiLaurentis, to avoid scandal told the kids that Charles was sick and died and they would never see him again. Jason was told that Charlie was not real and was a figment of his imagination.  He was traumatized by all the events followed by the fight in the kitchen lies.  That’s why he abused drugs and alcohol.

Although Charles wasn’t crazy - maybe just violent - to begin with. The betrayal as a child by his aunt  parents and the loss of his friend brother and sister became an obsession for him.

I feel as though once he left the foster system RAdley, he changed his identity and became a con man. He faked his way into college, may have even faked an accent to get what he wants. He also really kept close watch on Rosewood and the DiLaurentis at this time.

He is the one that kept NAT going, it probably started so he could keep tabs on his family and Rosewood, eventually he uses those videos to blackmail people or to sell to others to mAke money.

Jessica covered for him because he’s her son, and she thought Ali was dead and he threatened her with exposing what she did to him and he would expose himself to Kenneth.

I think Wren is A. I think after HS he made his way to London faked an accent, made his way into Cambridge by stealing someone’s place. He came back to the U.S. with a British name, a degree and used that to get into UPenn and cozy up to Melissa.
