The country is in lockdown as we fight with the pandemic caused by the Corona Virus. Hopefully, soon things will be better, till that time please bear the hardships. And just to clarify not being able to go for your gym session is not a problem, not getting your favorite brand of Coffee is not a hardship. Slow bandwidth from your ISP during a conference call with a client in the US of A is not a bad day. ⠀ No matter what you may say and how you may justify ( boredom, creativity, community building) if you & I have the luxury to accept various social media challenges we just don't have the concept of what a CHALLENGE is. ⠀ OK, enough of my Gyan, please feel free to disagree with me. ⠀ Let us focus on Sharma Brothers.⠀ Today's image is of Sharma Brothers from the quaint village of Garli in Kangra Himachal Pradesh. They run a small tailor shop in the village and do repair work or the odd school dress as people just don't come to a tailor shop to get new clothes stitched. Traditional Handloom Machines I met the Badhia family who works on handloom Machines and lives in Jamna kutir,Gandhi Ashram which is opposite to Sabarmati Ashram. The autobiographies mentioned that the Gandhiji learned using handloom Machine from their Late Grandfather Ramji Gopalsinh Badhia as Gandhiji used to stay in Jamna Kutir. Khadi refers to handwoven cloth and it is the movement to help the poor and promote handwoven clothes. I like to meet folks who have been to places & done things that I often dream about. In the sleepy Garli market you don't find many shops, even fewer customers as most people walking in the bazaar are friends & family in the small village. I stopped at a tailor shop where Mr. E is sitting. I click some images of the tailor brothers & without knowing start chatting with Mr. E. In the next few minutes I learn a lot about the exciting life Mr. E has led. He was part of the team that spearheaded the electrification of Spiti valley. One by one they installed the electric poles, wires in the harsh terrain to make sure electricity reaches in those remote parts. They could work only part of the year as it is impossible to do any construction work in winters in Spiti. These were the guys who climbed mountains, crossed rivers with freezing waters, and slept in tents to install the basic infrastructure for electrification of Spiti. I can go on but I think you get the gist, that not all heroes wear a cape. Mr. E ( E for Electricity the name I gave him) is retired but his love for Spiti continues visit Spiti every year for a couple of weeks for he has made lifelong friends there. He rides his bullet to the Spiti and this year he is planning to go there in winters and spend the winters in Spiti.
