The incorporation of inertia mass in conjunction with pneumatic air isolators plays a pivotal role in augmenting the vibration isolation of CMM (Coordinate Measuring Machine), providing a multitude of advantages that greatly enhance the precision, consistency, and dependability of measurements.
This combination synergistically enhances vibration absorption, stability, resistance against resonance effects, and the overall performance of the isolation system in precision measurement conditions.
Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) are widely employed in various industries, including manufacturing, automotive, medical device manufacturing, electronics and semiconductor manufacturing, precision engineering and tooling, research and development, quality control and inspection, and metrology. Their primary purpose is to verify the dimensional accuracy of manufactured components.
Dynemech Pneumatic Isolators, DMAS series, with self-levelling Pneumatic isolators are specifically engineered and extensively employed to reduce the transmission of vibrations from the surrounding environment to the CMM.
The working principle
pneumatic isolators use air pressure to generate a cushioning effect between the coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and the supporting structure. This successfully isolates the CMM from external vibrations, preventing their transmission.
DMAS Series pneumatic isolators have air chambers that absorb and dissipate vibrations. These pneumatic isolators serve as a low friction interface, enabling the CMM to float on a heavily damped medium.
Frequency Range:
Pneumatic isolators, DMAS series, effective at both lower and higher frequencies (The isolation starts typically above 2.5 Hz).
However, they provide limited isolation at lower frequencies (below 2.5 Hz).
At frequencies close to their resonance frequency, they amplify vibrations , around 1.5 Hz
Inertial mass:
Purpose : Addition of the inertial mass to the CMM structure strategically improves its stability and decrease its susceptibility to external vibrations.
Mechanism: 
By increasing the mass of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), its sensitivity to rapid vibrations or disturbances is reduced. Essentially, it opposes changes in acceleration due to its inertia.
By lowering the total centre of gravity of the CMM isolator system, it decreases the system's inclination to oscillate at resonant frequencies.
The suspended cradle frame effectively manages the rotational and rocking vibrations by aligning the vertical centre of gravity of the isolated CMM system with the centreline of the isolator.
By increasing the mass of the vibration isolation system, the natural frequency of the system is reduced, hence improving its capacity to successfully isolate low-frequency vibrations found in the precision measurement environment.
Impact: The inclusion of additional mass reduces the intensity of vibrations, leading to enhanced precision and repeatanility in measurements. It serves as a protective barrier against external influences. An inertia base serves as a rigid and stable support for the isolated equipment to be placed on.
Combined Impact on CMM Vibration Isolation:
1.Enhanced Vibration Absorption and Stability:
The integration of air isolators with inertia mass results in a very efficient vibration isolation system capable of successfully absorbing and dispersing vibrations over a broad spectrum of frequencies. The air isolators offer exceptional isolation for vibrations with high frequencies, while the inertia mass improves the system's effectiveness in the low-frequency range.
