The truth is not for the purpose of pointing fingers, it’s so you take the good and leave the detrimental. It’s also not about categorizing people. There were many white people who helped move America to a more perfect union, some who paid the price with their lives. There are also many people of color who migrated to this country by choice and not slavery. And there are white people who came to America after most of our history was established. So this is not about putting people in boxes. This is about being truthful about our history and it’s contributions to present day circumstances. Ignorance is not bliss, because it allows false truths to prevail. Feelings of shame, disappointment, guilt, frustration, anger, and sadness are human. Have the feeling, then get up and help change this. It’s not political, it’s humanity. It’s our history. It’s who we are.
