Happy #PresidentsDay! Today in our Black History Month series, we salute our first black President of the United States, Barack Obama, and first black First Lady Michelle Obama. The Obamas served in the white house from 2009 to 2017.⁠⁠ .⁠⁠ Barack Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, worked as a civil rights attorney, and served as a U.S. senator from Illinois from 2005 to 2008 and as an Illinois state senator from 1997 to 2004. In 2008, he was elected the first African-American president of the United States, and signed many landmark bills into law during his time in office.⁠⁠ .⁠⁠ As first lady, Michelle Obama served as a role model for women and worked as an advocate for poverty awareness, education, nutrition, physical activity, and healthy eating. She supported American designers and was considered a fashion icon.
