I wasn’t going to post this particular drawing at first, but I needed to de-stress one night so decided to color it. Looks alright, proportion aside.

Anyway, a while back I made a post explaining what I would have done to introduce the world Monster High to a younger audience. I came up with a hypothetical series called “She’s Alive” starring re-imagined versions of Alivia Stein, Pawla wolf and Fangelica. 

This series would run alongside the original Monster High, set in a newly founded Monster Middle school. 

I used elements of Gen2 Monster High for this series, trying to follow Mattel’s vision without tarnishing the stories us older fans already love. 

Alivia Stein is the younger sister of Frankie Stein, brought to life thirteen days ago. She’s a little shyer than her sister, and has a knack for all things science. She’s also the protagonist of this series. 

I’m not sure if I want the ghouls to ‘invent’ a monster middle school the way the main cast does in the reboot, only because I still can’t buy that plausibility. However..it might be a way to introduce the parents and help incorporate them into this sub-series: Alivia wonders why is it a monster High School exists, but not one for younger ghouls. 

I’m not sure yet how the main cast meets each other, but I do know Pawla and Alivia are introduced early on, since their older sisters are so close. Provided they do decide to make a Monster Middle school, they’ll probably encounter an alternate version of Fangelica along the way, thus forming the main trio. 

In this version, Pawla is thirteen years old. She’s a brash tomboy and her special talent is art. 

Fangelica is still a princess, only now she’s a white vampire bat of sorts. I figure Mattel would want to keep the wings and this was the only way I could explain them. I’m not sure what her talent is, yet, although its possible she might become this team’s “overdramatic diva” personality, just spookier. She still speaks with an accent, but she is not/will not be related in any way to Draculaura.

Later on, Kelpie Blue and twins Farrah and Lux will be introduced. In this version the twins are Cleo’s cousins. Farrah is the feminine team-member and proud of it. She also adores photography. Her brother Lux, more of a secondary character, is a big fan of music. His idol is the mummy-rapper, Pharoah. Instead of a Monster Mapalogue or whatever it is they use in the Ghoul Squad, my guess is the twins here use their idols to get around and help the ghouls spread the word about this middle school. I’m not a big fan of the adventure plotline with this franchise but it might be kind of fun, this secret the friends keep to themselves, kind of playing off the Sailor moon-Ladybug-the age of most “magical girl-inspired” protagonists. I don’t particularly buy it but I’m not the target audience. 

I’m not sure what Kelpie’s talents will be...I’d like to think maybe athletics, but she strikes me as a bit clumsy and unsure of herself. Maybe she’s afraid to try, because she doesn’t believe she’ll be as athletically-inclined as her sister, Lagoona. She also transfers in later, and speaks with an Australian accent.

If this were a legitimate series I don’t think it would crossover much with the existing Monster High, only because it will have a lighter and brighter tone. Despite my designs which ended up more gothic than intended...I just really like that aesthetic. As for the siblings, the ghouls would speak of them semi-frequently and they might even have off-camera or silhouetted cameos. 

So that’s my little idea for what could have been. The series would of course come with larger-eyed dolls, toned down outfits and lesser articulation. I’m not completely sold on my designs; as much as I like them, I’m not sure they’d pass for what parents envision for a younger demographic. Ah well...it’s all hypothetical, anyway.

These are Leo's friends and they help him protect the Beast Realm. From left to right: Raphael, Pawla, Haytham, Ed, Lulu, and Star. Raphael is a rhino and is really strong. He relies on brute strength to win his battles. He may lack a few brain power but he makes up with great fighting style. He will do anything to protect his friends. He uses his strength to the fullest.

(Voiced By Steven Blum) Pawla is a tiger girl and is Leo's lover. She is a very skilled hunter in her realm and has caught her prey. She stopped hunting when her former king became corrupted. She loves Leo and will always be by his side when needed. She even attacks the enemy very quietly.

(Voiced By Kari Wahlgren) Haytham is a hawk and is one of Leo's closest friends. He leads his people in the skies and is very good at fighting on both land and the sky. He and Leo grew up together and will do anything to keep the peace. He even scouts the Beast Realm from time to time.

(Voiced By David Matranga) Ed is a gorilla who loves to box. Ed is considered to be the strongest Gorilla in his realm due to his great strength in boxing. He finds boxing very fun and has always come out on top. He wants to be the strongest in the beast realm someday.

(Voiced By Richard Ian Cox) Lulu is a rabbit girl and the smart one. She is the princess of the Beast Realm and daughter to Queen Momo. She is very fast and uses her speed to her advantage in battle. She loves Raphael because she thinks he can protect her. She also wants to marry him someday.

(Voiced By Jad Saxton) Star is a fox priestess who will heal her friends. Star loves to help bring peace to all the realms. She once had orange fur but she changed it to a light violent to reflect her kind nature. She is very good at healing the injured. She is considered the best Healer in her Tribe.
