The main reason I love this job is for the experiences I get offered. Yesterday I was able to be present and steward a successful attempt at breaking a Guinness world record- the largest vow renewal. Memories of my visit to the Hotel del Coronado - details from the reception and main lobby of this historic beachfront hotel in the city of Coronado, just across the San Diego Bay from San Diego, California. Built in 1887, with it’s grand opening February 19, 1888. It is one of the few surviving examples of an American architectural genre: the wooden Victorian beach resort. It is the second largest wooden structure in the United States (after the Tillamook Air Museum in Tillamook, Oregon) and was designated a California Historical Landmark in 1970 and a National Historic Landmark in 1977. #Mediterranean Memories. Everyday was an adventure. Winter was coming and the streets of Venice were very cold at night. This was the latest in the year that I have ever visited this city. The ship I was working on, the Crown Princess, had just been in Egypt; I had visited the Great Pyramid in Giza on Halloween about a week earlier, where the weather had been much warmer. #Memories #PrincessProud- These Videos are a #Throwback to four years ago on October 7, 2016 when I was working aboard the #EmeraldPrincess. I miss everything about cruising and working on such a beautiful ship. Here is my post from back then: Suez Canal, Egypt. I met the historian lecturer this morning at 5:45am and took her up to the bridge where she offered commentary for our guests over the Public Address system on the Suez Canal. Upper video: The Mubarak Peace Bridge, also known as the Egyptian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, Al Salam Bridge, or Al Salam Peace Bridge, is a road bridge crossing the Suez Canal at El Qantara. ("El Qantara" means "The Bridge" in Arabic.)The bridge links the continents of Africa and Eurasia. In the lower video you see the Sinai Desert on the Port side (left) and El-Qantara Egypt on the Starboard (right) of the ship. Our ship is transiting from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea, on our way to Jordan. This man-made canal which took almost ten years to build, starting back in 1859. Virago and the Sphinx. #Memories from the Giza Plateau. • These photos are a #Throwback to Halloween afternoon October 31, 2012 during an overnight stay in Alexandria, Egypt. The ship I was on , the Crown Princess organized a nine bus crew tour to visit the Giza Plateau (one of the largest crew tours I have ever seen). The Giza Plateau is a plateau in Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt, site of the Fourth Dynasty Giza Necropolis, which includes the Great Pyramids of Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, the Sphinx, several cemeteries, a workers' village and an industrial complex. • I was fortunate to explore inside the Great Pyramid of Khufu. However, I will never make a good Lara Croft Tomb Raider. The walkway / tunnel was very very very claustrophobic, a cacophony of tongues reverberated off the limestone walls and ceilings. It was severely hot and had a very pungent smell. A sparse string of incandescent clear light bulbs lit the passage to the burial chamber. Upon reflecting on this adventure, I feel very blessed, it is another one of my treasured memories from my career at sea, which has taken me to so many amazing places. All this nostalgia was prompted when I watched an episode of Nova on PBS within my family, called Nova: Decoding the Great Pyramid.
