René-Xavier Prinet, a French painter, author of portraits, paysages and generic scenes. He came from a wealthy family where he was in touch with art from a very early age – his father was an amateur painter who cared about his son's artistic education. Prinet studied painting at Gérôme's, Courtois's and Dagnan-Bouveret's studios. His canvases often depicted important figures of the higher classes which resulted in a particular and very elegant approach to painting. He was painting scenes of picnics, parties, many paysages of Cabourg in Normandy. All of these works show how sensible the artist was towards the everyday life as well as towards the joyful ambiance of the Belle Epoque. Prinet was also teaching painting at first in his studio at Montparnasse, then in École Nationale des Beaux-Arts and Académie Colarossi where he taught female-only class. The painter was also doing interior design – he is the author of the interiors at Bibliothèque de l'Opéra, Musée d'Art Moderne and at Palais de la Légion d'Honneur in Paris. -- Wejman Gallery
