Hi,
We have our server hosted with DigitalOcean but the IP on the server is blacklisted by 3-4 mail services including Outlook/Live/Hotmail which as you can understand is a problem…
As such I’m trying to setup a way to send emails for all of our cPanel accounts / websites via a different IP; one of which is not blacklisted.
The setup…
We’ve setup the appropriate DMARC, DNSSEC, SPF, DKIM & PTR dns records to ensure everything is above board on that front.
We’ve disabled “email accounts” within cPanel, we’ve limited outgoing website mail to 150 emails per hour, we’ve setup catch-all to fail emails, we’re filtering outbound emails and added precautions to detect potential spam (there wont be) and block them our side. We’ve installed and configured various security tools from firewalls, rootkit hunters, antivirus software and much hardened the server to ensure it stays safe and secure.
The only emails the server sends are:
cPanel usage/security emails
Imunify360 emails
Wordfence security emails
WordPress password reset emails
WordPress contact form emails (Of which is protected with Google’s reCAPTCHA)
I’ve check the emails from the websites with mail-tester.com and they score a perfect 10/10.
Floating IP
As far as I am aware we can’t use a floating IP to resolve this issue because DigitalOcean hasn’t added the ability to setup a PTR for the floating IPs.
Mailgun
For of our other services we use Mailgun which we have a good reputation on a dedicated IP so we’d like to use that… As far as my research and attempt to use it goes it looks like this isn’t a valid solution because the emails get rejected because you have to setup each domain with Mailgun… (Each domain would have different SMTP logins too)
Other services?
What services out there allow for relaying emails, with good reputations and also at reasonable prices?
Mail Node…
I’m not opposed to setting up a mail node, however we want to make it as cheap as possible to be able to send 1000~ emails a month (contact forms, wordfence emails, wordpress password resets, cPanel security notifications) without any issues.
Any advice would be greatly welcome!
