Tactical Pants that Don’t Look Tactical
You know the style. Big, baggy pockets on the outside, held closed by large, obvious flaps. Pockets in places normal pants don’t have them, like along the outside of the leg or near the knee. Tactical pants typically look like tactical pants. But sometimes you don’t want to look so, well, tactical. What if you want to blend in and not “look the part”?
While there is a very useful purpose for these pockets on pants designed to be highly functional, sometimes the utilitarian look is counterproductive to the goal of the mission.
Ask any covert operator (if you can find one, wink, wink) about the first rule of covert operations and they’ll tell you it’s to blend in. Covert doesn’t mean much if everyone knows who you are. But how do you blend in while keeping all your tools at the ready?
One alternative is to sacrifice the usefulness of tactical pants and change into a pair of store-bought khakis or jeans, sacrificing the utilitarian function but maintaining your cover. It’s better than nothing, but often it’s not the best option. You may regret not having what you need if all hell breaks loose, your slide locks open on an empty chamber, you reach down for a reload magazine and...it’s not there because there was no place to put one. Now it’s no longer a matter of convenience. Maybe you keep a spare mag in a belt magazine pouch, but not everyone does.

Benefits and Uses of Nomex Shirts: Providing Protection in High-Risk Industries
Nomex shirts are a type of protective clothing designed to provide thermal protection and resistance to flames, heat, and electric arcs. The fabric used to make these shirts is made from a blend of aramid fibers and is widely used in industries such as oil and gas, electric utilities, firefighting, and the military. In this blog post, we will discuss the uses and benefits of Nomex shirts.
Uses of Nomex Shirts
Firefighting: Nomex shirts are commonly used in firefighting because they provide protection against flames and heat. Firefighters need to be able to work in extreme temperatures, and Nomex shirts are an essential part of their protective gear.
Electric utilities: Workers in the electric utilities industry are exposed to high-voltage electric arcs, which can be extremely dangerous. Nomex shirts offer protection against electric arcs and are therefore an important part of the protective gear for these workers.
Military: Nomex shirts are also used in military applications, such as pilot uniforms and ground personnel protective clothing. They are designed to withstand extreme conditions and provide protection against heat, flames, and electric arcs.
Industrial settings: Nomex shirts are also used in industrial settings, such as oil and gas, where workers are exposed to hazardous conditions. They provide protection against flames, heat, and electric arcs, making them an essential part of the protective gear for workers in these industries.
Benefits of Nomex Shirts
Flame resistance: Nomex shirts are inherently flame-resistant and will not ignite or continue to burn once the flame source is removed. This makes them a reliable and safe option for workers in high-risk industries.
Thermal protection: Nomex shirts provide excellent thermal protection, even in extreme heat and cold conditions. They can withstand high temperatures and protect the wearer from burns and other thermal injuries.
Durability: Nomex shirts are durable and long-lasting, even after repeated washings and exposure to harsh chemicals. They are designed to withstand the rigors of industrial work environments, making them a reliable choice for workers.
Comfort: Despite their protective properties, Nomex shirts are comfortable to wear. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, making it easy for workers to move around and work in a variety of conditions.
In conclusion, Nomex shirts are an essential part of the protective gear for workers in high-risk industries. They provide protection against flames, heat, and electric arcs, making them a reliable and safe option for workers. The benefits of Nomex shirts include their flame resistance, thermal protection, durability, and comfort, making them an ideal choice for workers who need protective clothing that is both effective and comfortable to wear.

WHAT ARE BDU PANTS? | ALL THAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Tumblr media
For more than forty years, BDU pants have been a staple in American apparel. Developed by the US Army in the late 1970s, BDUs were intended to replace the uniform pants used in the Vietnam era. Today, agencies and civilians across the world wear BDUs for work and play.
What is the "BDU" in BDU Pants?
The abbreviation “BDU” stands for “Battle Dress Uniform,” which was the official term that the US Military established when the pants came out in the 1980’s.
Why Are BDUs Popular?
The three main reasons BDUs are so well-regarded are:
Ruggedness & Reliability
Affordability
BDUs are iconic after being the US Military standard for~30 years
Whether you’re on the job or just need a pair of pants to go camping, BDUs offer a classic looking rugged and functional design that’s ready for anything. In addition to being composed of durable ripstop fabric, BDUs have large pockets, reinforced stress points, and adjustable waist lines. Also, some BDU variations now sell in a variety of colors, materials, non-military issue camouflage prints, and have adopted the use of the zipper fly (instead of a button fly). Altogether making these pants even more desirable to an even wider range of users around the world.

Aramid Flight Suits Provide a Low Cost Alternative to Nomex
In the market for a flight suit? Our flame-resistant flight suits, worn by all U.S. flight crews, have all the functional features you need to take the skies with confidence. Propper currently offers flight suits in 3 different fabrics, but for the purposes of this article we’re going to focus on Aramid. What makes Aramid such an appealing option is it basically meets all the same criteria as our original Nomex flight suit but at a more reasonable price point.
What is Aramid?
Aramid is a class of synthetic fiber used extensively in military and aerospace applications. Its chemical ring structure forms a chain that aligns with the length of Aramid fibers, creating a bond that makes the material extremely durable. In fact, an Aramid cord can have a tensile strength-to-weight ratio up to five times stronger than steel. In addition to being the material found inside most modern body armor, some other practical applications of woven para-aramid include reinforcing racing tires and cargo ship hulls.
Aramid also has excellent electrical and heat resistance, which makes it a natural fit for a wide range of PPE (personal protective equipment). Specialized meta-aramid fabrics are so flame resistant that they will not melt or ignite under normal oxygen conditions.
Military or Civilian?
Every flight suit Propper makes is built to military specification YACL-WP PD 99-01 R. From a design and features perspective, they are identical in every way save for the fabric itself. However, if you need your flight suit to be NIR compliant, the Aramid flight suit will not be a suitable option.
An NIR-compliant flight suit is essential for flying combat missions because it mimics the same radiation levels as the ambient environment, making them harder to detect using near-infared imaging (NIR) technology. If any of your flight hours are going to be spent in hostile territory, you’ll probably need to opt for the Nomex flight suit, specifically the Freedom Green and Air Force Tan colors.
For more information on which flight suit is right for you, check the handy infographic below or drop us a line here.

Frequently Asked Questions about Tactical Gear
Can civilians buy tactical gear?
Yes, civilians can buy tactical gear for any reason they choose where local laws allow it. Tactical gear can be very useful in home defense, practical use when in the outdoors for survival gear, and even in shooting sports. There are many reasons beyond costumes that civilians may want to own and use tactical gear in their day-to-day lives.
What is the purpose of tactical gear?
Tactical gear is clothing and equipment that is purpose built for protective or defensive tasks. Tactical features on otherwise everyday items such as backpacks, duffles, shirts, pants, headwear, belts and shoes, add functionality and durability needed for these tasks. Tactical functionality, such as pants adding magazine pockets or bags that have PALS/MOLLE attachment points for additional pouches, should be trained with so their usage becomes a part of your routine.
Can you wear tactical gear in public?
Civilians can wear tactical gear in public in accordance with local laws in the United States. However, many people feel that the use of tactical gear in otherwise civilian environments gives away the training and awareness you have for dealing with tactical situations. This may identify the person wearing tactical clothing as a potential target. More and more people are opting for less overt tactical gear and clothing to have more of a ‘grey man’ appearance.
What is considered tactical gear?
Tactical gear is anything that a person may wear or carry that will aid them in the carrying out of defensive or protective tactics against an impending threat. Tactical gear is purpose built product used as part of a person’s everyday carry or a part of their clothing with special features integrated which aid in typical tactical concepts such as concealment, range of movement, weapon concealment and accommodation, and durability.

Plain toe design Rubber and/or polyether polyurethane outsole

Outsole will not extend up the back of the heel or over the top of the toe
More information on Army Uniform Regulation 670-1 can be found in the DA PAM 670-1 details.
Army Boots FAQs
Is wearing Army boots illegal?
It is not illegal to wear a piece of military/ tactical clothing. Simply putting on an article or two of tactical clothing can be considered acceptable. Combat boots provide ankle stability and good grip. They can be worn by civilians.
How much do military boots cost?
Military boots come in varied prices based on quality, material, design etc. A decent pair of army boots costs roughly $80 to $150.
Do you buy your own army boots in the military?
The US military issues military boots to its officials. But they may still buy boots of their choice, provided they adhere to the measurements and style requirements.
How to tie military boots?
Soldiers learn rather unique styles in the military. The diagonal lace method is quite popular, as is the ladder lace method and the army method. Once the military boots are laced, tying them in military-style helps provide extra support and a unique look. Tie a knot on the ankle. Bring both the sides of the lace together. Wrap them clockwise around the ankle. From there, take the remaining part of the lace and tuck it under the first part of the lace. Finally, tuck the two ends in the boot to secure the laces firmly. The aim is not to leave any ends hanging. This method of tying boots ensures both comfort and support.
What boots do the military use?
There are a variety of military boots available. Every branch and unit has its own style. Army boots are generally 8 inches high. They're made of flesh-out cattle hide leather and usually feature a soft toe. Air Force boots, on the other hand, are soft toe boots without height restrictions. While some branches wear soft toe boots, other branches prefer the steel toe ones. Primarily there are two kinds of materials found in military boots: suede and leather.
How to clean military boots?
One could use a damp cloth or a horsehair brush to get rid of any extra dirt or dust from the military boots. For suede tan boots, a coarse brush may be used to scrub away dirt embedded in the suede material. Dish detergent is quite effective in removing stains from suede boots. For cleaning stains from boots made out of synthetic material, an old toothbrush dipped in baking soda and hydrogen peroxide does the trick.
How to style military boots for men?
Military boots are tough, comfortable and versatile. Irrespective of the cut of the jeans, military boots look great with flared, straight, skinny or ankle-length jeans. Whether one tucks in one’s jeans, drapes an oversized jacket or puts on a simple formal suit, military boots go well with anything under the sun. Opt for darker colors to pair with formal clothes. Lighter, brighter hues go better with casuals.
How to tuck pants into military boots?
One may fold the excess pants against the leg, so that it is pressed tightly against the ankle. Then, wear a pair of socks above the pants in order to hold them firmly over the ankle. The socks shouldn't be longer than the boots, and they should have a good elastic at the top. This helps it support and hold the pants firmly. Finally, simply zip, pull or tie the boots over the socks, while the pants are held firmly in place.

Nomex Pants (Wildland Fire Pants) by Propper
Propper manufactures wildland fire pants that meet both NFPA 1977 & 1975 standards and are certified for use by the USDA Forest Service. When in need of flame retardant Nomex pants that are equal parts adaptable, durable, and affordable, Propper’s fire pants are the go-to for fire crews everywhere. Now available in sage green, stationwear navy blue, and a yellow overpant.
Nomex Pants FAQs
Is Nomex safe to wear?
Nomex fibers are non-toxic and do not pose a safety hazard to the wearer. On the contrary, Nomex is an inherent flame resistant fiber that will protect the wearer without melting or dripping of the material. Flames will self-extinguish once exposed to Nomex and due to the inherent nature of its fire resistance, these effects will not wash out over time.
Why do wildland firefighters wear green pants?
Originally, forestry service wildland fire fighters wore the dark green spruce color as their signature color to distinguish them from the typical colors of urban fire departments such as navy. In recent years, the nomex pants changed to a lighter color of sage in response to wildland firefighter feedback. Forestry fire fighters operate often in hot, sunny conditions, and the lighter color, as well as lighter weight fabrics, help deflect some of the heat as well as allow them to move quickly through the rough, outdoor terrain.
Is nomex a synthetic fiber?
Yes, Nomex is a synthetic fiber that is made of meta-aramid. When used in clothing, such as Propper’s wildland fire pant for forestry service firefighters or the 27/P Flyers Coverall used by pilots and flight crews, the material is typically 92% nomex meta-aramid, 5% para-aramid, also known as Kevlar when branded, and 3% anti-static conductive fibers.
What is nomex made up of?
Nomex is a synthetic fiber that is made of meta-aramid that was developed by DuPont in the 1960s. Aramid is a type of strong, flame resistant fibers, and a shortened name for aromatic polyamide.
Why is Nomex used for Firefighters?
Firefighter clothing, such as wildland pants are made with Nomex® brand fiber because they are an inherently flame-resistant material and will not melt, drip, or support combustion in the air when exposed to extreme heat and flame. This is because Nomex fire pants will not melt, drip, or support combustion, compared to 100% cotton options, and reduces the potential burn injury by about 50% when exposed to flame for brief periods.

Commonly Asked Questions about Police Uniforms
Law enforcement personnel, first responders, or anyone who commits themselves to the protection of others deserves the respect of the communities they serve. They also deserve comfortable, reliable, and professional-looking uniforms. Propper’s collection of police uniforms provide the brave men and women of law enforcement with the apparel they want to wear. Every item in our lineup is ideal for first responders who need durable and lightweight uniforms to meet the demands of the job - not just a uniform standard.
What are different types of police uniforms?
In the United States, police officers typically have at least two classes of uniforms.  Dress or traditional uniforms are often used for ceremonial duties, public relations events, and for officers who are assigned tasks in the police stations, including the highest ranks.  These uniforms are frequently called Class A uniforms and may include blazers, dress slacks, ties, and patent polished shoes.  For day to day operations and patrol, many departments utilize a Class B uniform option.  This uniform dresses down the Class A and can use a different material such as poly/cotton ripstop or twill, add cargo pockets to the slacks, and possibly even incorporate an outer body armor carrier.  Some Class B uniforms are defined as tactical uniforms, including BDUs or tactical pants with woven tactical shirts or polos.  Many more traditional departments utilize the tactical uniform as a Class C uniform or training uniform for their patrol officers.  In these departments, SWAT or tactical teams and specialists like K-9 patrols will use the tactical uniform as their daily wear.
What is a police uniform called?
In the United States, Police Uniforms are typically called Class A for Dress/Ceremonial Wear, Class B for Patrol/Daily Wear, or Class C of Tactical/Training use.
Can Police wear camouflage?
There is no law that says Police cannot wear camouflage but it is not typical that Police Departments in the United States would wear it.  While in many other countries the police are a part of the national government and frequently do wear camo, in the United States, typically only SWAT or other special tactical operations officers will wear it.  Its use is becoming less frequent as many police departments are making efforts to appear less militarized in their communities.
Why do police wear blue?
Police Departments typically wear dark blue or black uniforms in many cities because they look traditional and professional.  Originally in many cases, these uniforms were modeled after military uniforms or were even actual military uniforms, but as the US Military branches evolved into new colors and camouflage patterns, the recognizable blues and blacks of police departments stayed the law enforcement color of choice.  It should be noted that Sheriff departments often do not wear blue or black, opting for brown, olive, or khaki to distinguish themselves from the municipal uniforms.
What is a Class B Police Uniform?
Class B uniforms are the daily patrol uniforms in most municipal police departments.  Typically, dark navy or black, Class B uniforms also have a typical look and feel, they are dressed down from the ceremonial uniforms and made of functional fabrics.  However, some police departments use tactical shirts and pants for class B daily use.
